WEB DOWSER: WAGGING THE 'DOGMA'

Read any good hate mail lately?

Kevin Smith has, and with his (to put it mildly) controversial comedic film "Dogma" opening next week, the New Jersey-born and -bred writer-director-actor has posted the best(?) of the hate letters at his production company's Web site (www.viewaskew.com).

"Dogma" has been roundly denounced as a Catholic-bashing, scurrilous, scatological, heretical piece of tripe that lampoons God and faith and assails deeply held and deeply felt beliefs in the Almighty, his son and his son's ever-virgin mother. Pretty brutal criticism for a film seen only in Cannes to date.

Fortunately for the curious, there's far more about the movie and its making posted here, including 150 candid shots from the filming, all (well, most) suitable for hanging on bedroom walls. Fans of Ben Affleck, Matt Damon, Linda Fiorentino, Chris Rock, Alanis Morissette, George Carlin, Salma Hayek and Jay and Silent Bob can see their idols in more human guises. Folks interested in the plot and how it developed can read the official synopsis and critical appreciation.

Print yourself out a copy of the Buddy-Christ image and see if you don't agree: Catholicism, Wow!

Among the more bizarre sounds I've heard on the radio lately is William Shatner gargling. It seems Priceline, the big, really big, name-your-own-price place, has branched into grocery items, including Bill's mouthwash.

Through an alliance with WebHouse (webhouse.priceline.com), Priceline lets members buy groceries at up to half off store prices, pay for them online, and pick them up at ShopRite, Foodtown, A&P and more. Find your store, find your price, print out your order, get your WebHouse card at the store.

P.S. Wanna hear something more bizarre than Shatner gargling? Visit www.loskene.com/singalong/kirk.html. No hints.
