Say Good-Bye to Jay and Silent Bob

Kevin Smith says the Dogma duo will only appear in one more film.

Kevin Smith's latest flick, Dogma, turns the spotlight on a pair of Smith staples formerly relegated to the background -- slacker sidekicks Jay (Jason Mewes) and Silent Bob (Smith). Don't expect to see the guys show up too often in future Smith offerings, though.

In a recent interview with AnotherUniverse.com's Mania magazine, Smith reveals that the popular duo will most likely appear only once more on the big screen. "Yeah, Jay and Silent Bob will be in the next (movie), but that will be it," he said. "It will be time to put them to rest after that. I'm almost 30, and I don't think anyone wants to see a mid- to late-30s Silent Bob." Awww, come on...

Another Smith standby, the obligatory Star Wars reference, will also fall by the wayside. "I won't put Star Wars references in the next one," he said. "They were cool when Clerks came out because no one talked about those flicks anymore, but now with The Phantom Menace and the re-releases everyone knows about them again." Well, we suppose we have to let go of some things, though there's no doubt that Smith's previous scripted bits of Star Wars dialogue were probably some of the funniest genre-related comments ever committed to film.

Lest you think Smith has forgotten his fanboy roots, just remember the name the director chose for his baby daughter, who was born in June -- Harley Quinn.
