Dogma Screening Review

Review Courtesy Dark Horizons

I'm not gonna break out the synopsis, because by now, everyone pretty much knows what this fantastic film is about. Yes, you heard me correct, this movie was absolutely fantastic. I've seen a lot of great movies this year, from fascinating (The Matrix) to absolutely terrifying (The Blair Witch Project) to surprisingly sweet (EdTV) and this badlad right here, takes the cake. I obviously saw the unfinished product, but I more than got the full picture. Allow me elaborate on why "Dogma" is so amazing.

First of all, let me congratulate the cast on a slew of magnificent performances, and let me also say that Ben Affleck is Oscar Worthy in this. If he's not atleast nominated, I will firebomb the Academy. Matt Damon was also extremely good, as was Linda Fiorentino. Chris Rock was hilarious, but actually pulled some seriousness out of his ass when needed. Everyone was just great! The filmmaking you say? Well, Kevin Smith's dialogue is always hilarious and intelligent, but this movie packs a script that is his most intelligent and witty to date. I kid you not! Another thing that really stood out from the usual Kevin Smith flicks was the tremendous direction and camera work. The Director of Photography did a great job making this stand apart from the New Jersey Trilogy. I cannot praise this film enough. There were three movies that I was dying to see this year, "The Blair Witch Project", "Dogma", and "The Phantom Menace" and after seeing the first two, all I can say is... George who? With the recent news that Disney is passing on "Dogma", I hope they have an idea as to what the hell they're doing, because they're letting a Future Oscar Winner go. To whoever gets this movie, I implore you... Hold it until at least December!!! Kevin needs an Oscar and this is his ticket. 12 Stars out of 5. Mark my words, Kevin Smith will at least win Best Original Screenplay at the 2000 Academy Awards, and if there is a shred of decency left in the world, then his movie will pull in a lot more as well.
