(Story Sent In By : Greg Derasmo) What a great, great day. I really enjoyed my 3/5ths of vulgarthon. I'm sixteen and had school the next day. My parents forced me against my will to leave Mecca (I mean Red Bank) and return to my own suburban home. At first I was upset that I didn't get tickets for the first day but when the weather turned sour on Monday I was happy to have my day two tickets. So with my parents, my best friend, and my Chasing Amy dvd I headed out for my pilgrimage to Mecca, er I mean Red bank. On the ride there I realized how much a fan I was when I took a picture of a sign that said Red Bank on it. My first stop on the trip was of course the stash where I picked up my tickets and dropped some money. We then headed to the theater and got on line to go in. Here's where I noticed something about Kevin Smith fans. They are the most respectful, kind, mature group of people. No one was screaming or pushing or shoving. Everyone talked quietly with each other and waited patiently to get to meet Kevin. At this point I decided to go to the front of the line to take a peak at what was going on. There he was the man himself Kevin Smith taking photos with each ticket holder. I don't know if he enjoyed this part much because he only seemed to be smiling a second before and a second after the camera clicked. I got back in line and got my photos with Kevin. He was a really nice about the whole thing. I mean I know that Kevin will probably make a pretty penny off Vulgarthon but there are a lot of other directors that need money a lot more then him and I don't see a "Tarantinothon" or a "P.T. Anderson thon". He opened the show with a few jokes, called us silly drunks and introduced all the directors to all the films that were there that night. One thing that was surprising about all these guys is that not one of them wasn't funny. They were all down to earth guys who didn't take themselves to seriously. They are the type of guys you would want to be friends with. I was able to get front row seats (I don't know how that happened) and because of that I was right up close to one of the best directors of our time. We watched Vulgar first. I thought it was a really great film. The most disturbing scene I have ever seen on film since the ear-slicing scene in Reservoir Dogs. Bryan Johnson and Bryan O'Halloran (sorry if I spelt it wrong) answered a few questions, cracked a few jokes, and asked my mom if she approved of the ending. She did. At about this time I went to the lobby to relieve my bladder and there was my dad talking to Kevin's mom about how I wanted to go into film making. She was such a sweet woman. She gave me a few kind words and introduced me and my dad to Kevin's dad. My dad wanted to make sure I got my Kevin Smith autograph being that I was too nervous to ask. He got my Chasing Amy dvd signed "Greg, go direct". This dvd is now one of my most prized possessions. Next came Jay And Silent Bob strike back. It was just as amusing the fourth time as it was the first. Next was an hour and a half of deleted footage from Jay and Bob. Here comes a little confession. While the deleted scenes play I saw Kevin leave. My dad and I snuck out of the theater to see if I could get a few more autographs and a hand shake. I felt like a jackass bothering Kevin to ask but when I did he said "that's what we're here for". He seems like a real niceguy. Next came dinner and my departure from Red Bank New Jersey. Even though my parents cut it short it was still one of the best days I have ever spent in a movie theater. Hope to be there again next year
