  • Hey folks...There's some SPOILERS ahead, minor ones, but still, spoilers all the same. Since as you know, many fans had the opportunity to be extras at the El Rey theater yesterday, naturally, some reports were going to come in. Naturally, we got a ton of them here and Aint It Cool News even posted some pics from the event, which include a certain film that's playing on the marquee. We've got those shots, and a summary of what we learned about the production. Naturally, we don't want to ruin any of the film for those of you that want to go in cold (as hard as that is these days), so we're going to hide as much as we can. We've blurred the thumbnails above, but click them if you'd like to take a look. Also, swipe the text below if you'd like to read the information learned about the film. Bear in mind these are not major spoilers, just some small tidbits:

And finally, this isn't much of a spoiler, just a confirmation, but we hear that Joey Lauren Adams DOES reprise her role as Alyssa Jones! We'll have more from the set as it becomes available.

  • Aint It Cool News's own Mysterio has been working hard on getting this together, and we congratulate him on his first of what looks to be many on-set reports from Jay & Silent Bob Strike Back! Almost makes us wanna pack up News Askew and move it out to the west coast! Anyway, the first report involves a reading of the script and a meeting with Kevin, and is quite extensive. The best part of this coverage is that it's SPOILER FREE, which is the way we like to see things kept around here. So, while he has read the script and will be on set, none of the details of the flick, including its plot and surprises, are going to be ruined for us. Here's a preview of some of the more interesting stuff:
      Is the script any good?

      Yes, it is.

Does this script indeed end the ‘Jersey-saga’?

      Yes, I’m afraid it does.

What else does the script entail that is on par with Smith’s past films?

Well, pretty much everything is thrown in here but the kitchen sink. It is sure to please die-hard Smith fans that’ve waited to Smith to return to his comedy roots of ‘CLERKS’ and ‘MALLRATS’. One thing I can add about this flick is that it is indeed raunchier than anything he’s written or done before, and the comedy and plot much broader. And there’s not one serious note in it. It’s clearly steadfast in funny-country here kids. So if this is what you’re looking for, then fear not, it’s all in here.

Are past character and other trademarks represented in the script?

Um, yes, of course. But while this film is sure to please most fans, there will always be those few that’ll find some beef against it. There always are. And just a note, Kev does and has kept the fans in mind when writing this flick, and it is indeed hopefully going to be a lasting gift to those that have stuck by him since those ‘CLERKS’ days not-so-long ago.

We're going to be asking AICN's permission to repost the stuff on our Jay & Bob page in an archive, but in the meantime, you can read the entire piece HERE.

  • Those of you who submitted information to appear as extras in the film for January 25th at the El Rey theater hould be receiving callbacks today or tomorrow, if not already. Best of luck and be sure to send your reports from the set to us here at the site, we'd love to hear about your experiences. Did you make it? Mysterio says, "Basically if you’ve submitted your photo and called during the time the phone number for extras casting was posted, it’s a pretty safe bet you’re in. Now sure pretty safe may not sound much like a "for sure" right now, but Kev has assured me that you folks WILL be getting called; probably as early as tomorrow with the details."

  • Even after reading Kev's stuff above, in case there are still any misconceptions, yes, Psycomic has indeed gone away. Kevin's busy enough with his directing duties and otherwise, and seems to be quite content keeping us informed through the WWWBoard, so we don't expect "Developing The Monkey" to continue in its current form. News Askew will offer the current archive of Psycomic columns as well for your convenience on the Jay & Silent Bob Strike Back site. Here's the official notice that appeared on Psycomic itself yesterday:
      To Psycomic Users:
www.psycomics.com will be concluding operations this month. The site will be available, in its present state, but it will not be updated. This will allow you the opportunity to browse the features that already exist on the site. We very much appreciate all of the support you have shown the site over the past months.

  • Well, Psycomic might be going away but that doesn't mean we still can't be excited about the new flick...Remember that teaser poster that we posted a LONG while back that was created when VA5 was just a dream? Well, the original creator of that, William Coughlan, has updated the teaser and sent it to us in 3 formats, small, medium, and large. This is a VERY cool little one-sheet, definitely fan-oriented, but if you're reading this site you'll certainly appreciate it.

Keep in mind this is a fan-made poster and not official in the least. Still, I'd frame it and hang it up. Check it out and post your opinions in the Talkbacks - We're quite fond of it!

  • Aint It Cool News broke this scoop just this evening, ending the rumors flat. David Duchovny will not be involved with Jay & Silent Bob Strike Back due to scheduling conflicts, but from the sound of things may want to work with Kevin in the future (so it's not all bad). Here's the story, with thanks to AICN:
"One bit of news from the visit, though. David Duchovny told us that he is not going to be able to work his schedule out for JAY AND SILENT BOB STRIKE BACK, the new Kevin Smith comedy. He'd been heavily rumored to be playing a small role in the film, and regrets not being able to make it work. Mr. Duchovny (who I was just told is "yummy" by the pretty-darn-yummy-herself Marla Singer) said that he would love to work with Kevin Smith at some point, and he seemed genuinely irritated at the way his EVOLUTION schedule is going to take him right up to his return to X-FILES later this spring."

  • Lots of rumblings are going around regarding the proposed August 10, 2001 release date going around regarding "American Pie 2". As many of you know, and Kevin himself has joked, the flick shares a LOT of actors with "Jay & Silent Bob Strike Back", and presently shares a proposed release date. Not only that, but with both the flicks being R-rated comedies after the same demographic, we're almost positive that someone is going to move dates. With Jay & Bob already underway, and AP2 still just in a scripting stage, we don't think the August 10th date is in jeopardy, at least as far as AP2 is concerned. Dimension wants Jay & Bob out on that date, and we've got a feeling it's going to make it. Of course, we're not always right, either. We'll let you know if anything changes.

  • Well folks, it's a most historic day, as this summer's upcoming comedy hit, "Jay & Silent Bob Strike Back", has gone before the cameras. That's right, folks, filming has begun! Here's Kevin with his first of what's sure to be many reports direct from the set...
While not the official start date, we did, indeed, start shooting yesterday. It was what's called a 'pre-shoot' day, which means that the studio picks up the tab for the day, and not our budget (although, since the studio also picks up the tab on our budget, what's the difference, I say).

Shot out both Steve Kmetko and Jules Asner. Both true sweethearts who helped make it a very easy and enjoyable first day. From now on, I'm starting all my shoots with these two.

Mewes, too, was great. We had this dolly shot in which a running Mewes gave a very funny, wide-eyed expression.

And there was another actor I'd love to wax complimentary on, but his deal hasn't been announced yet. He, too, was quite hysterical.

Tuesday is yet another 'pre-shoot' day (with Jeff Anderson), and the Wednesday is the first official day of the show (with Carlin).

And although I haven't sat in the chair for over two years now, it all came back pretty quickly.

Only fifty one more shoot days to go...

  • Well folks, this is it! Kevin promised that you'd have a chance to be an extra in this flick, and once again, here comes your big chance! Not only will you have a chance to point at the screen for a few seconds and say "That's me!!!", but check out the list of celebrities that will be on hand as well.

The OTHER big news here is that it looks like Joey Lauren Adams WILL return in the flick, and we are 95% sure that role will be Alyssa Jones (though she may ALSO appear as Gwen or a new character, we're not totally certain).

Here's Kevin with the official announcement:

  • We broke a big scoop with this one early last month, but now the news is official AND appears at the Wizard World web site, www.wizardworld.com. Wizard comics magazine gives away a monthly prize, and January's a is a really nice one - Yep, it's your chance to win a non-speaking walk-on part in "Jay & Silent Bob Strike Back"! We'd love nothing more than to see a loyal News Askew reader win this prize, so get over there and sign up. Best of luck to you, and if you win as a result, let us know. We'll expect some good souvenirs from California. :)

The contest works by referrals, so once you sign up, the more folks you refer to it will get you extra chances at winning. IF you win, you and one of those friends will get airfare, 2 nights at a hotel, $200, and an all-access pass to the set in addition to your walk-on role. How cool is that? Good luck. Now go and win!
