  • The Tribeca Film Festival has placed their 2004 Online Poll online, asking fans all-time favorite “guilty pleasures”. Clerks is one of the choices. Go let your voice be heard!
  • The Washington Times calls Jersey Girl “A Frank Capra film for today’s young parents”. A snip:
“Jersey Girl” may run against type for Mr. Smith’s film persona, but not for the simple Jersey boy.

“This is the easier material for me to write,” he explains. “At heart, I’m a melodramatic sap. … I’m not a stoner. The other stuff is more observational. This stuff comes right from the heart.”

  • We’ve been getting a lot of mail about this, so we figured we’d let you know: A page at the IMDB has been set aside for “Oh, What A Lovely Tea Party”, the Jay & Silent Bob Strike Back documentary. Last we heard, this documentary was going to make its debut on the Clerks 10th Anniversary DVD later this year. Let’s hope that’s still the case, as we’re dying to see it ourselves.
  • The Toronto Sun followed up on Jersey Girl’s box office with a small article that appeared online this week. Here’s a snippet:
“It’s not that I set the box office on fire but, where I’ve always been successful, personally, is that I make it for me — and then some people come and some people don’t. But I’ve been able to build a nice little audience of people who like what we do. So, generally, I get away with it.”

Unlike most American filmmakers, Smith also claims opening weekend rankings are bogus.

“The opening box office and the money that you do in initial release really doesn’t matter, ultimately. It matters to the studio, I guess, but not to me. To me, it’s about the longevity, it is about the legs something has.”

  • Kevin called into the Bob & Tom show on Q96 in Indianapolis today. We hadn’t heard of this appearance, or we’d have let you know sooner. Sounds like he’s doing a bit more Jersey Girl press this week, which will hopefully keep the word of mouth going into this weekend. We still say it’s the best date/couples movie out there, and should bring in some good cash for a couple more weeks.
  • And finally today, sad news, as an extended member of the View Askew family has passed on. Art James, who played Bob Summers (the Truth or Date Host) in Mallrats, died today at age 74. Yahoo has the story. May he rest in peace.
