NEW LIVE GIGS – San Diego: Smith. Mosier. Garman. Mewes. SHATNER!?!?

June 26th, 2011 @ 3:16 am | No Comments » | Scooped by

  • Kevin Smith’s panels have constantly sold out to standing-room-only crowds at the annual San Diego Comic Con. With this being the biggest year yet of SMod, there’s some special stuff happening there this year. Right now, you can buy tickets for two exclusive shows at the House of Blues in San Diego, and you don’t even have to be a ‘con attendee. Hit the top of SModcast.com for links to purchase table and bar tickets for both “Hollywood Babble On” and “Jay and Silent Bob Get Old”, both going down on Friday, July 22nd. There are just 100 seated tickets and 200 standing/bar tickets for each show, so don’t delay. $37 gets you a seat and $26.99 gets you in the door. Tickets come down as PDF files, you print and bring ‘em with you, nice and easy. If you want to see both shows, you’ll need tickets for both.

JUST ANNOUNCED – Kevin will moderate a panel featuring Star Trek captains William Shatner and Avery Brooks at the Con this year, in conjunction with Shater’s new documentary taking a look at the actors who have taken the Trek captain’s chair over the years. Epix HD will debut the film and offer fans a chance to interact directly with the panel, though this will likely be the MUST SEE headline event of the Con this year. Typically, you need to line up just for tickets for events like this at the Con ahead of time, but we if hear anything further on how you can get a seat, you’ll have it here. Stay tuned.

And don’t forget, See SMOD network programs recorded LIVE at the Lovitz, Universal Citywalk, every Friday and Saturday night. The Huffington Post shares a look (scroll down) at what you’ll see in person. Not local? SeeSMod has all your upcoming tour dates from around the globe.

CLERKS and CHASING AMY released on Blu-Ray disc!

August 18th, 2009 @ 9:10 pm | No Comments » | Scooped by Brad & Chris

  • Clear your calendars and ask your boss for the day off, folks – Two of the greatest View Askew flicks of all-time hit Blu-Ray for the first time EVER on Tuesday, November 17th: All new special editions of “Clerks” and “Chasing Amy”. This date has long been rumored, but has now been made official.

“Chasing Amy” will be the long-awaited anniversary edition of the beloved film, which adds over 4 hours of brand new exclusive content that you won’t get anywhere else, including a brand new documentary from Zak & Joey at Chop Shop (which is sure to be brilliance as always), that Arclight reuinion Q&A we were fortunate enough to be front and center for, and lots more.

On “Clerks”, the Clerks X stuff comes back in a nice single disc package, with the added bonus of the rarely-seen Jay & Silent Bob Strike Back “Oh What a Lovely Tea Party” documentary. Previously, you could only see this doc on the festival circuit — Now, you can catch it at home. We’re betting they’ll throw a few more surprises in there, too.

Since “Jay & Silent Bob Strike Back” has already arrived on Blu-ray, they’re also offering up a special 3-pack which includes that flick along with these two releases. If you don’t have it yet, you might want to look into nabbing that multi-pack at a bargain price.

Retail on the first two is $39.99 each and on the pack is $89.99 each — But as always, stick with us as we’ll likely have a big party or signed copies of these direct from the Stash announced over the next month or so.

“A Couple Of Dicks” Is Released in U.S. Theaters!!!

June 21st, 2009 @ 9:29 am | No Comments » | Scooped by Brad & Chris

  • While it may be way too early to start looking forward to a release date (since film hasn’t yet rolled on the flick), the often-reliable Box Office Mojo lists Kevin’s upcoming directorial effort, “A Couple of Dicks”, with a release date of February 26, 2010 (moving back a month from a date we’d previously not even heard). We figure that the date’s probably penciled in on a schedule somewhere, but it’s too early to tell if this is going to be the official big screen debut.

“A Couple of Cops” stars Bruce Willis and Tracy Morgan, and will be the first film Kevin directs a script he has not written. It’s also his first stint with Warner Brothers. Scouting locations in and around the NYC area should be just wrapping up about now, with on location filming set to start sometime next month (June). We’ll keep you posted as we learn more about the production, as well as regarding a confirmation or denial of the February 2010 release date.

An Evening With Kevin Smith Live From Carnegie Hall!!!

April 16th, 2009 @ 11:16 am | No Comments » | Scooped by Brad & Chris

  • When we predicted a big “Evening With” in last night’s update, sure, we expected a pretty major announcement today — But this surpasses even our wildest expectations. Yes, Kevin is coming to CARNEGIE HALL for a historic, one night only show. This is BIG, folks. The largest and most prestigious venue Kevin has ever appeared at. Easily the must-see, must-attend View Askew event of 2009. Carnegie Hall’s gonna be rockin’ on June 17th, folks.

Best of all, Kevin reveals that the official event won’t be announced for sale until Monday the 20th — But TODAY, April 16th, at 11 AM EST, you can start ordering your tickets online exclusively through View Askew. Yep, before the rest of the world knows!!! The Hall is a big place, so plenty of seats are available, but getting to that website this morning will assure you first pick at the best seats in the house. And believe us, you’re gonna want those seats.

No further details about the show are revealed at this point, but Kevin’s promising something very special. We’ve already speculated on what could transpire, but we have a feeling any guests or surprises will be kept top secret until that night. Kevin has also said that the show will NOT be recorded for video, which will allow him to be totally free-wheeling with everything he dishes on. In other words, buckle up and prepare yourself for a candid, no-holds-barred evening of crazy.

Here’s what Kevin had to say in the official announcement post:

HOLY FUCK!!! I’M GONNA PLAY CARNEGIE HALL!!!!!!

This will only ever happen once in my lifetime, and it’s gonna be a serious fucking hoot. Maybe even a holler. This, my friends, will be worth the trip. Promise.

We’ve put together this info page with a link for ticket sales. Please note, however: THE LINK FOR TICKET SALES WILL NOT GO LIVE ‘TIL ELEVEN A.M. THIS MORNING, EST (MEANING TODAY).

Carnegie Hall’s not announcing the show/sales info to the rest of the world (who won’t care anyway) ’til 4/20 (har-har). That means, if you’re so inclined to watch a fat boob (who ironically sports two fat boobs) sweat and swear on the greatest stage in the world, the best seats are up for grabs for the next few days.

I’d be lying if I said this was a dream come true; because what fucking useless pud-knocker with no quantifiable talents would ever dream about playing Carnegie Hall. I’m not Yo Yo Ma; I’m Mo’ Mo’ Devil Dogs.

      And yet, here we are.

I hope you can make it. I really do (especially ’cause that place is a fucking barn that I don’t know if I can fill).

We’re absolutely thrilled for Kevin and cannot wait for this event. We hope to see fans from across the world at this one. Just two months away!!! See you there – ALL OF YOU!!!!

Kevin & Co. At the Gretzky Street Hockey Tourney!

March 25th, 2009 @ 2:24 pm | No Comments » | Scooped by Brad & Chris

  • A lot of chatter has been happening over at the immortal View Askew WWWBoard regarding the upcoming “Walter Gretzky Street Hockey Tournament” taking place in Brantford, Ontario on June 5th, 6th, and 7th. This all-ages charity event will feature teams battling it out by age bracket.

View Askew has put together their own team (“Puck U.”), featuring Kevin Smith (in goal), Jason Mewes (C), Bryan Johnson, Scott Mosier, Jen Schwalbach, Ming Chen, Jon Gordon, Jim Jackman, Malcolm Ingram, and Walt Flanagan. Talk about an all star View Askew team! Wow!

They’ve also sponsored 2 teams of board members, the Monroeville Zombies and the Leonardo Reapers. A possibility for a third team exists as well, which you can follow on the official thread.

You can also learn more on the official event page for the tournament at View Askew.

The 3rd annual Walter Gretzky Street Hockey Tournament will be hosted in Brantford from June 5 to 7, 2009 at the Ball Hockey International (BHI) venue located at the Steve Brown Sports Complex / Lions Park, 20 Edge Street. Learn more (or start your own team) at the official site for the event.

Watch a video of what last year’s event looked like. If you can make it up there in June for the beautiful Ontario weather, head on up and cheer our teams on!

Kevin Smith Film Festival at Bloor Cinema in Toronto, Canada

January 21st, 2009 @ 9:55 am | No Comments » | Scooped by

  • Kevin’s coming to Canada for a historic 2-night appearance in Toronto doing the Q&A thing next month (February 6th and 7th) — And even more curiously, mentioned that there might be more to come in a recent post. Well, we think we’ve gotten to the bottom of what that extra is gonna be. How about a mini-Vulgarthon?

Yes, that’s right, taking a look at the Bloor Cinema’s website , you’ll see a THREE DAY “Kevin Smith Film Fest”, showing 2 movies a night, starting Sunday, February 8th. “Clerks” and “Clerks II” on night one (the first double-bill of these we’ve ever seen), “Mallrats” and “Chasing Amy” on night two (films 2 and 3 of the Askewniverse), and “Dogma” and “Jay & Silent Bob Strike Back” on the final night.

Okay, so we know you’re intrigued, right? Wanna go? Here’s how it works. First off, tickets are gonna cost you $60 (Canadian) and that gets you into ALL SIX MOVIES. Kevin will appear LIVE at the fest for a 30 minute Q&A session after each film. Yep, just like at Vulgarthons here in the US. So, now it’s your turn, Canada!

Here’s the official word from the Bloor cinema:

KEVIN SMITH FEST. The honourary Jersey Canuck joins the Bloor Cinema for a series of half hour Q&A’s following screenings of six of his flicks!! Love him or hate him, Kevin Smith was one of the nineties’ most influential American auteurs, channeling pre-millennial slacker angst into comedies that are frequently more beautiful and loving than they have any right to be. We all have our favourites, but they are best appreciated as a package, the better to tease out their interconnectivity; just as with a good TV show, watching the mythology develop and weave back into itself is half the fun. SEE ‘EM ALL FOR ONLY $60.

Ticketweb has tickets for sale RIGHT NOW (and these are going to sell out really, really fast, so buy right now).

    Showtimes:

      Sun Feb 8, 2009
      7:00 PM Clerks.
      9:30 PM Clerks II

      Mon Feb 9, 2009
      7:00 Mallrats
      9:30 Chasing Amy

      Tue Feb 10, 2009
      7:00 Dogma
10:00 Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back

OF FINAL IMPORTANT NOTE: The website says: “Please note that these are Bloor Cinema Member tickets only (must show valid Bloor Cinema membership card for each member ticket purchased – not just one membership card for several tickets).” We read this is that if you are your 3 friends are going, all 4 of you must join the Bloor Cinema as a member before you can buy these tickets. Membership is $3 and we believe is available at the door — If folks know a way to purchase a membership by phone or online, let us know.

This is a FANTASTIC opportunity and winds up almost a full week of Kevin in Canada, the biggest event we’ve ever seen come to Toronto. News Askew readers across Canada are already coming in for the Q&A shows, now’s your chance to extend the fun for this historic 3-night film festival. Be there!!! And get your seats now before they’re gone, trust us.

AN EVENING WITH KEVIN SMITH at Roy Thomson Hall – Toronto, Canada

January 21st, 2009 @ 9:10 am | No Comments » | Scooped by

  • The presale’s over, so if you missed out on the first round, you may now proceed to the Ticketmaster site to purchase your tickets to Kevin’s 2nd just-added night in Toronto for this February — The first event sold out in record time, so we’re expecting the same to happen on this one. Don’t delay, buy today.

The show takes place on Friday, February 6, 2009, 7:00 PM in Roy Thomson Hall, Toromto. Kevin’s Canadian appearances are among the all-time greats, so don’t miss out — This historic two night event is sure to go down in View Askew History as one of the greats. Some fans attending Saturday have been buying seats for Friday as well, now that tix have opened back up, which is fine, as no two Kevin shows are ever the same. In fact, his last Red Bank Show was a completely open forum that went in any direction Kevin would allow the audience to take it, no preset stories among the night. If this trend continues into February, we may very well see two totally different shows in Toronto. Here’s hoping to see many a News Askew fan among the crowd. Enjoy the show(s)!

“Clerks 2” Released on Blu-ray in the US.

January 3rd, 2009 @ 11:56 am | No Comments » | Scooped by

  • A scooper writes us to let us know that the “Zack and Miri Make a Porno” DVD and Bluray release is listed at February 10th in the internal Blockbuster computers, and that he’s never seen them get a release date wrong. So, pretty strong evidence that we’ll see the disc on that day, even though we have yet to see a final confirmation.

Meanwhile, check out a look at this DVD cover for “Porno” that was discovered on the Amazon.com servers. This likely means we’ll see a confirmed date and some real specs on the disc’s contents soon. The cover looks like a newly composed shot to feature the entire cast, and doesn’t match any of the previous poster artwork that we’ve seen. We like it, though.

The only item giving us pause is the news that the Bluray release of “Clerks 2” has been bumped up a week to February 3rd:

The Weinstein Company has officially announced the Blu-ray release of Kevin Smith’s ‘Clerks II’, which is due to hit store shelves on February 3rd. Originally scheduled for a February 10th release, this two disc set will feature all the extras from the previous HD DVD release. No technical specs have been announced at this time.

Typically, studios like to release similar titles on the same day, so if you’re going to the store to pick up one, you’ll get both — So PERHAPS “Porno” will also bump up a week. We’ll let ya know as soon as we know.
