Kevin Suggests Upcoming Events…

April 28th @ 9:56 pm | No Comments » | Scooped by Brad & Chris

  • Kevin has announced that the Mallrats Q&A will pretty much mark the end of the big events until this Fall, when we’ll likely have some Clerks 2-related gathering (first looks, perhaps?) and a big signing event for the upcoming DVDs. He’s also revealed that no plans are set for a Dogma or Jay & Bob 10th disc, though we’ll likely get a big Jersey Girl X disc (could that be the first time the super-long cut will see the light of day again?). Here’s Kevin:
“Dogma” has a great special edition dvd, so there’s no point in revisiting it. Same for “Strike Back”. I’d say the next ten year screening/Q&A would be for “Jersey Girl”.

It’ll be pretty quiet event-wise, too – ’til the fall. For the next few months, it’ll be nothing but “Catch & Release” and “Clerks 2”. In the fall, though, we’ll have a “Mallrats 10th” signing and an “Evening Harder” signing (hopefully on the same day). Then, a “Clerks 2” event of some sort, no doubt.

IESB: Mewes On Clerks 2, Star Wars TV Series…

Jason Mewes

  • The ever-vigilant IESB caught Jason Mewes on camera and grilled him about Clerks 2 and Kevin’s reaction to Sith. Jay reveals that a September start date is now planned for Clerks 2. And the even bigger news? IESB reports that Kevin’s TV involvement with the Star Wars TV series MIGHT be writing and directing a 3 episode arc of the new program. We like what we’re hearing. But this is just speculative. No deals have been signed.

Raquel Castro

Zach Braff

Ryan Reynolds

  • Raquel Castro has wrapped shooting on her Law and Order SVU episode. We’re told the show will be the first of the new season, airing in September 2005. Filming lasted for a week, and word has it Raquel did quite well and impressed the show’s cast members. We’ll let you know when we hear more.
  • Moviehole has run a piece on the new Fletch casting, naming both Zach Braff and Ryan Reynolds as current and past candidates for the role:
Looks like Zach Braff’s a step closer to slapping on Irwin ‘Fletch’ Fletcher’s trousers.

On his blog, the “Garden State” star chats about his recent meeting with “Fletch Won” director Kevin Smith, to discuss the role.

“Hello there. Today is a big day; my last day at home before I leave for Canada for two months. Scrubs has wrapped for the season, I had a couple of weeks off, and now it’s time to start “The Last Kiss”. Those of you who are truly interested can rent the Italian film, “L’ultimo Baccio”. That’s the film ours is adapted from. Paul Haggis, who wrote “Million Dollar Baby” did the adaptation and I tweaked the dialogue a little bit. I’m really excited about this movie.

I met with Kevin Smith yesterday at his house to discuss “Fletch” and/or other projects. He’s such a cool guy. He cooked me lunch! It was really awesome to sit down with someone who’s had so much success and still acts like a regular guy from Jersey. I jokingly told him I wanted to make “Garden State” action figures. (Because he’s got figures from every one of his movies.) He told me he’d put me in touch with the guy who does his. So who knows, I think it would be pretty cool to have a Sam action figure…”.

Meantime, MTV talked to Ryan Reynolds who claimed that he had been in talks for the film at one point too.

“I love that movie [Fletch], I love that character, I even love the books,” Reynolds said excitedly. “And Chevy’s just – the guy’s a fallen angel for me.

“Somebody talked to somebody about it, four different times,” Reynolds said, admitting he’d been approached. “I think the project has changed hands a few different times as well. Kevin Smith has it now, and I think he’s the most capable guy to do that. Kevin is smart because he’s going to reinvent it.”

Reynolds said he looks forward to Smith’s movie, but that the only involvement he’ll have with it is if he buys a ticket. “I feel like that’s hallowed ground, even for me,” he said. “I wouldn’t want … I have no desire to step into those shoes.”

“If I were to play it,” he continued, “I know that we would have some similar comic undertones, Chevy and I. I think you should just reinvent it and find a whole new way to go.”

Reynolds has heard the rumblings about Braff’s involvement. “I’ve actually heard that as well. He’d make a good Fletch, I think. Actually, he’d be great.”

    • Howdy folks. Just a few quick words for you today. First off, before the mails flow in, wanted you to be aware that yes, we’ve seen the post at Aint It Cool on Kevin’s “Sith” review. Kevin really dug the film, and his entire post is available in the “Boring Ass Life” blog for your reading pleasure. Watch for spoilers as Kevin indicates. The movie sounds like it’s going to deliver.

And enjoy it, folks. Because as of RIGHT NOW — AND ONLY NOW — Never again…There are exactly 37 diary entries over at the blog site. But after the next update from Kevin, you’ll never see that number there again.

Pegg, Wright, and…Smith(?!?) On Star Wars!

    • Kevin joined the brilliant crew behind the incredibly hilarious “Shaun of the Dead” when in London to jaw about the upcoming Star Wars flick, the final prequel, Episode III. The 7 page interview is hilarious and worth your valuable screen scanning time. Some snippets:
Empire: You guys are all film-makers. Is that something that would excite you? Maybe in a TV series… there was talk, Kevin, of you doing a TV show.

Kevin: Doing the TV show? Absolutely.

Empire: And maybe getting a story each and doing it over an episode…

Kevin: But would you be allowed to do that? That’s the big question. No TV show is ever going to work unless that dude says ‘go, do whatever you want. I’m done.’ He maintains that he’s done now that he’s told… it used to be nine and now it’s down to six, and probably rightfully so, because where do you go after Jedi? The Empire is vanquished.

Odd News Askew trivia: William Hootkins, the actor who Kevin jokes about and played “Porkins” in the original Star Wars Episode IV, was the subject of our very first website when learning to code — A tribute to him titled “The Red 6 Memorial”. It’s since gone to code heaven. We only wish we had it to show you.

Tons of great jokes and conversation for Kevin fans and Star Wars fans alike in this piece, so don’t miss it, Check the entire transcript out at Empire UK! Sure, it’s more Star Wars than Askew we’d say, but who the hell doesn’t have Star Wars fever at the moment? HURRY UP EPISODE III!!!!

    • So, it’s now confirmed by George Lucas himself that we’ll see a live action Star Wars TV series in a year or so. We’re guessing it’ll be for ABC or FOX, but who knows? Also, no word at all on Kevin’s involvement with such a project, but we’re got our fingers and toes crossed. Ok, mostly because we’d kill human beings to appear in a walk-on as an extra in the world of Star Wars somewhere down the line. But can you blame us?
    • In this weeks issue of ‘Heat’ magazine (30 April) on page 50, there’s a picture of Jay getting kicked by Paris Hilton on the set of his new film ‘Bottoms Up’. They name her but failed to mention Mewes by name in the photo. Where’s your priorities, Heat? On the hot chick? Oh, ok.

    • And finally today, in other Star Wars like news, seems we had a gender-mixed-up Jay and Silent Bob show up at Star Wars celebration III in Indiana earlier this week. Check out this photo! Thanks to our IESB pal Robert Sanchez for the photo. More from his gallery HERE.

    One Anniversary And One Birthday…

    Jennifer and KevinJason Lee
    • We’d like to take a moment before the day is out to wish Kevin and Jennifer a very happy SIXTH wedding anniversary! My, how the years have gone by. The lucky couple are celebrating tonight with a screening of “Revenge of the Sith” and we couldn’t be more jealous. Certainly a wonderful way to spend an evening. Much congrats, Kev & Jen.

Also, a very happy birthday today to View Askew’s beloved Jason Lee, who turns 35. We’re hopeful that he doesn’t get too busy doing his sitcom to come back and join us here once in a while. Have a great day, Lee.
