- Thanks again to Kevin & Jamie Anderson for these three new pics from the set of Jay & Silent Bob Strike Back. For the first time in the series, we’ve chosen a theme to follow. In the first shot, you’ll see Jay & Bob entering Holden’s new biz, Potzers, Inc. The second shot’s got the duo and Holden checking out some stuff on the Internet (you may have spotted this one in the trailer). Finally, a neat shot of the crew shooting Affleck’s big close-up. As always, enjoy these web exclusive shots, and we’ll be back with 3 more next week!

Film Threat’s J&SBSB On Set Report…
- Film Threat visited the Jay & Silent Bob Strike Back set a while back, and have now posted a fairly sizeable 2-part report on their experiences. There are some new quotes from Kevin and Jay, with thoughts on the flick, working with friends, awards shows, and more. Here’s a snippet:
“My friends and I working together certainly wasn’t because we were only telling stories about the same characters,†Smith states. “It’s a matter of me liking those people. It’s probably why those characters kept coming back. I would imagine that would stay the same. It’s not like just because there is no more Jay and Silent Bob and we aren’t in Jersey anymore we would throw in a whole new cast. There are too many great actors that we have dealt with that we’ll want to work with again.â€

J&SBSB Test Screening a HUGE Success…
- The internet and e-mail box is all abuzz this morning, as last night, the first test screening of Jay & Silent Bob Strike Back was held in LA.The flick ran around 2 hours, which means about 20 minutes or so is still due to hit the cutting room floor, so attendees got a look at a cut of the film that likely no one else will get to see ever again! Test screenings are done for a variety of reasons, whether it be audience reaction,walk-outs, and the like, but the most important aspect are the actual scorecards that each viewer fills in after seeing the flick. The great news is that the film not only wowed the audience, but had incredibly HIGH test scores! This not only gives Dimension and Miramax the confidence to release the film wide, but also bodes well for a huge opening weekend and steady grosses in the weeks to follow through word of mouth. Great stuff here. Here’s Kevin’s post regarding the event:
I’m sure most of you are familiar with the testing process. Cards are given out at the end of the screening, and data is compiled from a series of boxes (Excellent, Very Good, Good, Fair, Poor) in regards to a variety of topics (Characters, Pace, Music, Overall, etc). But when all’s said and done, there are only two categories that mean anything.
One is the “Top Two Boxes†– the combined score of which is the quoted figure that’s constantly referred back to (â€We have to bring the scores up. It only scored a thirty in the top two boxes.â€).
The other is the “Definitely Recommendâ€. This is in the recommend category in which the viewer is asked would they Definitely, Probably, Probably Not, or Definitely Not recommend the movie to others.
In the Top Two Boxes, in which the average (or normal) acceptable score is 55%, ‘Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back’ scored 86%. 86% of the audience said the film was Excellent or Very Good.
In the Definite Recommend category, in which the average (or normal) acceptable score is 45%, ‘Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back’ received a 79%.
We have never… NEVER received scores like that. To wit, the highest ‘Dogma’ ever scored was a 60% or 65% in the Top Two Boxes, with a 35% to 40% definite recommend. ‘Amy’ was somewhere in that range as well.
The Dimension folks informed me that these were some of the highest numbers not only in their history, but also Miramax’s.
And in terms of who made up the audience, only 14% of the group had seen all four of the prior flicks. So it wasn’t like we screened to a group of total fans; we were screening to fresh faces.
But let’s put aside the numbers and just talk about the screening in general.
It went like gangbusters. The audience was with the movie every step of the way. I’ve never heard an audience laugh so much in any of our prior flicks’ screenings.
It was… amazing.
Many thanks to all in attendance. 341 of you came, and none of you walked out (also a first for us; there’s always been at least a 2% walk-out rate). But most importantly, according to the numbers, virtually all of you enjoyed yourselves (indeed, the “Fair†and “Poor†ratings were 3% and 1% respectively).
I am a happy, happy man.
By the way, if you were one of those fans in attendance who does read the website, and would like to submit a review, feel free to do so. We’ll post it up over at Scooping The Monkey.
Monday Morning J&SBSB Set Pics!
- As promised, our weekly edition of 3 new pictures to brighten up your Monday morning. That first pic…well…Kinda speaks for itself. What more is there to say? Next, we’ve got an artsy little shot of Jay & Bob called “Green Roomâ€. If you’ll look carefully on the right, you’ll notice that hilarious poster with the monkey that we mentioned in the on set report. Hopefully that will show up onscreen. The monitor at the lower right with the scene framed is also a nice touch. And finally, another from the Mosier collection, a slightly different pose of the girls outside the van (no, it’s not the same as posted before, we had a few of them). Thanks again to Jamie Anderson, Kevin Smith, and Scott Mosier for providing us with these exclusive photos.
Don’t forget that Kevin promised some updates at Moviepoopshoot.com today, so be on the lookout for that. We’ll be in touch with the latest on that as well. Catch ya later today.
EXCLUSIVE: First Look At The REAL Bluntman & Chronic!
- As if the traffic on the trailer wasn’t ALREADY bringing this site to a standstill, here’s another bandwidth-buster for ya, the first photo revealing Jay & Silent Bob AS Bluntman & Chronic! We’re going to pass this graphic around to the other web agencies as well, so it should be popping up all over the place. Click the thumbnail for a better look, and remember, you saw it here first. Enjoy, folks.
Three New Exclusive J&SBSB Pics!
- Yep, it’s Monday morning, you know what that means! Three new exclusive pics straight from the set of Jay & Silent Bob Strike Back. First comes a pose that we’re surprised isn’t popping up all over the promotional circuits, Jay & Bob certainly speak for themselves in that pose. Then there’s another neat shot of the Mooby’s exterior, done by Ratface and crew. Those 2 shots come to us courtesy of DP Jamie Anderson. Finally, yet another of the Mosier classics, a great shot of Kev. Enjoy these, and we’ll of course see you back here with more great shots next week!
Trailer Mirrors Available & More Details…
- A few words on server problems, the trailer, and stuff. First of all, if you haven’t noticed, News Askew has been VERY slow for the past day and a half. This is all due to the incredibly high demand for The Trailer. The problem is that we’re all sharing server space, and all of the trailer locations that were listed yesterday were basically taxing the same server and bandwidth. We’re working on new mirrors, though, that’s the good news, which should be MUCH faster and we highly recommend that you use if you want to download a copy of the the trailer. If you have a server that you can mirror the trailer on, LET US KNOW.
Assuming most of you are like the rest of us, and want the biggest and best version of the thing, we’ve got the largest and highest quality QuickTime version mirrored at the following locations:
MultiMediaReview.com – 480 x 176 (11.8 megs)
Homepage.Mac.com – 480 x 176 (11.8 megs)
MultiMediaReview.com – 240 x 87 (2 megs)
Thanks to Bill for the new mirror up there. If you want to see the trailer, AND to lessen the burden on the News Askew server, we URGE you to surf over to these alternate sites to get the trailer. Due to the Dark Horizons mention yesterday as well as the post at AICN, not to mention our regular daily traffic and all the fans from the WWWBoard, things are REALLY busy. We apologize for any e-mails that bounced back to you, and also for the slow speeds in talkbacks, the forums, and otherwise.
Just a few words about the internet trailer – This is by no means a representation of what the official teaser and trailer for the film will be. Kevin and Scott (and maybe others) put this gem together with the die-hard fan in mind. That’s why you’re seeing all the in-jokes, references to past films, and the like. While this stuff certainly will be a highlight of the flick for many of us, the film itself is not designed ONLY for fans. The internet trailer, however, was. Hope that sheds a bit of light on why the trailer plays like it does. It’s what Kevin figured all of you would want to see the most. It’s a great piece of work.
We’ll be back with a full, regular update soon (as soon as we can get enough bandwidth to post some!). Thanks for your patience. This incredibly high demand bodes VERY well for the film.
JAY & SILENT BOB STRIKE BACK – THE INTERNET TRAILER
- Alright, so we scammed ya a little bit. News Askew is proud to present your first, internet exclusive look at a trailer for “Jay & Silent Bob Strike Backâ€. That’s right…Before the theaters get it, before it winds up on television, you’re seeing a trailer that was designed exclusively for you, the View Askew Internet fan. The trailer runs 1 minute and 22 seconds, and features some really classic lines along with glimpses at pretty much every character in the flick. You’re gonna laugh. Trust me.
The trailer has appeared at a website called Moviepoopshot.com, which is a clever site that’s basically going to play directly into the Jay & Silent Bob Strike Back film itself (you’ll see, or the astute of you might even figure it out). Looks like there’s some very creative web marketing that’s going to tie into all the other promotional stuff going on as well (the site promotes an upcoming “Bluntman & Chronic†feature. At this point, we’re not sure if this site will continue to receive updates, though we think it’d be a great touch.
In the meantime, we’ve provided a LOCAL MIRROR of the trailer here for your viewing pleasure. Kev’s post regarding the site, by the way, is as follows:
I just found this new website, moviepoopshoot.com, and while they don’t seem to be very old, even THESE motherfuckers are jumping all over my dick.
Go read it and see what I mean.
Go on.
Read it.
Every little bit of it.
Closely.
Especially the fucking “shooting gallery†numb-nuts’ opinions.
I’ll wait…
EXCLUSIVE: Three New Pics From The Set!
- We’re happy to present three new, never before seen photos from the set of Jay & Silent Bob Strike Back right here for you today. With the help of Kevin, Scott, and Jamie, we are hoping to bring three new photographs to the web each and every week up to the film’s release.
This week, we’ve got a special treat, a new look at the photo that appeared in Entertainment Weekly last Friday. You can see that they used totally different versions of the girls, turned Shannon the opposite direction, cropped, and stuck Jay & Bob in the background. The original shot is the first one above on your left, as it was shot by DP Jamie Anderson. It’s amazing how much that the press can mess with an existing photo to make a new composition. Notice this photo contains a totally different shot of Ali, as well as the addition of Jen & Eliza. The other two shots above are new and from Scott Mosier. Thanks again to View Askew for providing these exclusive shots for your viewing pleasure.
Red Bank Filming Details…
- Lots of details from Red Bank over the past few days. As most of you probably know, principal photography is wrapping up this week with stuff filmed at the Stash, Quick Stop, and other locations. Jason Lee stopped into the board yesterday after he finished his filming as Brodie. Here’s what he had to say:
We’d actually planned on going into Red Bank for some coverage of the filming today, but due to poor weather, the filming schedule flopped around, and the Stash interior stuff was filmed yesterday. Some of you were on the scene for this though, and sent in some exclusive pictures and reports from Red Bank. The Stash exterior has been altered a bit, though it could be considered a small spoiler for the purists out there. Click the blurred thumbnail above for a look at this new exterior and swipe below for some details on this shot (thanks to Dave Bednar of Webclerks for scooping on this very early this week, by the way):

[START SPOILERS] The picture is of Brodie’s Secret Stash, altered from the familiar Jay & Silent Bob logo. It appears that Brodie has bought his own comic store (though who knows what happened to the Tonight Show gig) and appears in the new logo. He’s clutching some comic books in one hand and that famous dixie cup in the other. It’s another great job by the production art department. By the way, during our set visit last month we noticed some flyers on a lecture by Brodie Bruce regarding how Hollywood messed up Superman. Maybe that ties into this scene. [END SPOILERS]
Filming yesterday ran from early in the morning until around 7 PM. Lee, Kevin, and Mewes were inside most of the day for the interior shots but did come out for a bit to chat with the bystanders and sign some autographs and stuff. Sounds like the cast and crew were very accommodating to the fans. If anyone visits any of the shooting locations this weekend, as things wrap up, let us know. Thanks again to Gramp and Dave for the shots above. Click them for a better look at the new logo and for shots of Lee and Mewes outside of the store.
