Catch Clerks II & Kevin LIVE!

July 12th @ 8:34 am | No Comments » | Scooped by Brad & Chris, Rob Beradino

  • This is a very exciting time for us, when a new film’s about to hit the screen – And, as you’ve seen from the site and all of our coverage, there’s a LOT of press going on for Clerks II. But perhaps even cooler is the fact that Kevin is literally touring the country with the film, personally watching audiences watch the film, doing the live Q&A thing afterwards, and, in many cases, this is happening BEFORE the official July 21st release. A Pleasantville, NY showing has just been added for July 19th (Jacob Burns), now bringing our known screenings up to the following list:
July 13th – Paramount Theater, Austin Film Society (Austin, Texas) $25/$30. Q&A with Kevin will follow.
July 18th – Cinema Imperial, Montreal, Canada. $10 CDN. NO Kevin appearance or Q&A at this show.
July 19th – Jacob Burns Film Center (Pleasantville, NY) $25 for non-members. Q&A with Kevin will follow.
July 21st – Arclight Screenings (3), featuring Kevin Smith Q&As

If anyone hears of any more open to the public screenings, let us know. And remember, regardless of when you see the film, early or not, be sure and get out there on opening weekend, bring some pals with you, spread the word, and plan for a great time at the movies. This one’s a true crowd pleaser.

If you’re tired of just listening or reading these things, now’s your chance to see a live sit down with everyone’s favorite clerks. Nice job to Scene Stealers on their oustanding coverage of Brian and Jeff’s tour.
  • It seems that blogger Tom Young at The Detroit News likes the idea of a Kevin Smith-scripted Aquaman 2, as Entourage fictionally proposed last weekend.

Kevin Kills On Leno!

July 11th @ 7:45 am | No Comments » | Scooped by Brad & Chris

  • Last night, Kevin logged one of the most visible appearances during the Clerks II promotional tour, The Tonight Show with Jay Leno. As always, audiences were rolling with laughter as he told the tale of the anal fissure, then a nice segue into Clerks II promotion, where the now famous Jay scene that you’ve seen in most trailers and ads is shown to the audience. The clip runs nine minutes in length, and we’ve got it available on our new News Askew YouTube channel. Enjoy!

Entourage: Kevin’s Response…

July 10th @ 7:25 pm | No Comments » | Scooped by Mike Reino, Norman Emery, Richard Curtis, Michael Scaglione, Ricky Johnston, Tom Combs, E. Christopher, Austin, Nicholas Baltra, Doorsfan

  • TONS of you wrote us to note the small mention/jab at Kevin on last night’s episode of the hit HBO series Entourage. Kevin says:
First off, it’s harmless.

Secondly, there’s a reason: Rob Weiss is a writer on the show. Rob Weiss, director of “Amongst Friends” (anyone remember “Amongst Friends”?), was profiled in John Pierson’s book “Spike, Mike, Slackers and Dykes” in a chapter entitled “Amongst Jerks”. Obviously, Pierson didn’t have a great time working with the guy. I was involved in the book, inasmuch as I did convo interlude with John that preceded each chapter. One of these convos was about Weiss. While I did say that I found “Amongst Friends” to be watchable, I did tell tales out of school about his relationship with Shannon Doherty, and how disruptive Weiss was while we were shooting “Mallrats” – which was surprising, considering he never visited either the set or Minnesota.

Weiss would call Shannon before takes and tell her he was going out clubbing, and if she didn’t spend time with him on the phone, he’d then add that he was probably going to get laid while clubbing. Naturally, this upset Shannon – which, when you’re shooting a comedy, isn’t a good thing. I talked about this in the book. When the book came out, the dude wasn’t happy with it.

That was ten years ago. For ten years, that enmity waited for an outlet. When Weiss joined the writing staff of “Entourage”, he found his outlet. He’s credited with the writing of the Sundance episode, in which the first crack was made. I don’t know if he wrote tonight’s episode (I haven’t watched it yet), but I imagine he’s the source.

It’s cool. I sort of had it coming. And if this makes Vanilla Weiss feel better about the stuff (all true, mind you) that I said in Pierson’s book, then it all evens out.

The mention involved an fictional Aquaman sequel being directed by Michael Bay and writen by Kevin. Could this open up the doors for a possible Kevin appearance on the show? The program’s more entertaining than ever, a big hit, and we believe Kevin watches. Aint It Cool mentioned the reference as well. Hey, you never know…

July 10th @ 7:23 pm | No Comments » | Scooped by Dan Lybarger, Mysterio

  • Dan Lybarger interviews O’Halloran and Anderson in an EXTENSIVE piece full of tons of Q&A — Probably the longest interview with these guys we’ve seen in print, EVER. So it’s nice and in-depth. There’s too much great stuff in here to even pick up prime clippage, so here’s just a random passage or two:
Lybarger: Adding Elias (Trevor Fehrman) to the mix was really interesting because he’s so young and hopeful whereas Dante and Randal are cynics.

Anderson: That was sort of the beauty of taking them out of the Quick Stop setting and dropping them in the new thing. There sort of had to be new people coming in there. I was always curious about how that interaction was going to go. I thought that character was really well done because you couldn’t have another character like us.

What’s interesting is Brian’s and my dialogue tends to be so fast back and forth. Trevor’s thing was to slow things down. That gives it an interesting dynamic to sort of slow it all down.

Lybarger: Kevin Smith has been usually astute in selling his films online. He had the onset journal for Jersey Girl. And I read in the New York Times that he’s going to have an iPod commentary track on the second week of release

O’Halloran: They recorded it a couple of weeks ago: Jeff, Scott (Mosier), Kevin. It’s the first time ever that you’ll be able to go into the theater in the second week of release, down load the commentary track down to your iPod, go to the theater and see the opening credits and watch the commentary track while it’s going. Apparently, it’s really, really fun. It’s worth it.

You must, by all means, check out the entire interview HERE!

  • New video clippage! Check out this article AND video of Kevin’s appearance, in person, on “Atlanta & Company”. We found we had to use Internet Explorer to get the video to play. And play quite well it did! Watch Kevin quip with the interviewer and chat up Clerks II as he tours the country promoting its greatness.
  • Word has it that the opening day Clerks II Q&A sessions at the Arclight will be taped for the Clerks II DVD release. Come armed with some good questions about the film, folks!

Interview: Kevin Meets “The Rise Guys”

July 9th @ 9:48 pm | No Comments » | Scooped by Daniel

  • This one’s an older interview (as Kevin mentions the old August release date), but you can visit YouTube for an audio version of a radio appearance that Kevin did with “The Rise Guys” to chat up Clerks II. The 8 minute interview is audio only, just with a still shot which we suppose allowed it to be uploaded to YouTube, which typically serves up video. The guys in the studio are fans, which makes for a fine piece. Enjoy.
