Kevin’s Upcoming Press Junket…

November 1st, 1999 @ 12:00 am | No Comments » | Scooped by Toni, J Fields & John Lovegrove

  • Kevin checked in with a post about his plans for the next few weeks, and this sounds like just a start. We’ll let him do the talking here, but then come back with a summary of a few OTHER Dogma-related appearances that you might ALSO be interested in:
Just Got Back…

…from Atlanta. Spent a day doing local press, as well as CNN and t.v. stuff. Friday night, we had what seemed like the best screening of the movie yet at this College Media Convention. Many thanks to the crowd for the hoots, the hollers, and the standing ‘O’. Hopefully, the two hour plus Q&A didn’t disappoint.

We’re getting closer and closer now, folks. In the big city papers this weekend (NY Times, LA Times, etc.) Lions Gate ran the four ads with the cast breakdown. Also, Lions Gate shipped us (and many theatres) a huge, cardboard ‘Dogma’ standee. This is the first standee we’ve ever had on a film, so we were all pretty excited. It’s now in the window of the Stash.

Tomorrow night is Conan, and Thursday is Total Request Live, as well as a screening for the National Board of Review at night. Say a prayer for yours truly.

Friday is the Pittsburgh screening, at which I hope to see a few of you. >From there, it’s off to L.A. for some last minute press (print and t.v.), before coming home for the opening weekend (which is also the weekend Harley’s getting Baptised). If I don’t show up ’round here for a couple weeks, that’s why.

Now, let’s summarize what we know for the appearance timeline, including Kev and a couple of other View Askew vets, as well:

November 2nd – Kevin on Conan O’Brien (NOTE: Kevin is the lead/top guest for this show)
November 4th – Kevin & Jay On MTV Total Request Live (NOTE: Shannen Doherty also appears on Conan tonight — Kevin narrowly missed her! That would have been a fun show.)
November 9th – Ben Affleck on Conan O’Brien
November 10th – Kevin Smith on Politically Incorrect (NOTE: NEW ANNOUNCEMENT!)

Dogma Screenings: The Revenge…

  • “This time, it’s personal.”

Alright, so the free screenings of the flick prior to the 12th continue to pop up. Here’s a few more tidbits for those of you who still haven’t found a show to attend yet:

  • San Francisco State University — Tuesday, November 9th in the McKenna Theater in the Creative Arts Building. No further information on who and how many will be admitted. Sorry.
  • Atomic Comics in Mesa, AZ is distributing passes to Dogma on November 4. The passes are good for Nov. 10th. This is an advanced screening and your chance to catch the flick a full 2 days before the rest of the country!
  • Okay, Canucks, here’s your chance: Toronto’s National Post is giving away 50 tickets to a screening of Dogma for Wednesday, November 10th at the Paramount theatre. All you have to do is fax in the scan or e-mail them by noon on November 2nd. FAX: (416)386-2716, or e-mail: contests@nationalpost.com Attention:Dogma. Good luck!
  • Premiere Magazine is hosting a screening on Wednesday, 11/10 at 6:30pm at UA Union Square in New York City.

  • CDNOW has the Dogma soundtrack online at their site, and with it, sound bites from each of the tracks that can be found on it. For a sampling of that wonderful Shore score, surf over and check it out.
  • Dogma Book Clarification: The hardcover from Hyperion, which has been scheduled to come out for about a year now, has been cancelled. Amazon may just have not taken it off the page yet. A source from Barnes & Noble tells us that it stills shows up on their computers, but if you try ordering it you’re told it’s been cancelled within a day or so. So stick with the softcover version of the screenplay coming out in a few weeks. That’s bound to be it. Heheh…”Bound”. I made a pun.
  • We’ve gotten a few mails about the Creative Screenwriting piece with Kevin in the latest issue — Dunno if we mentioned it yet, but in case we didn’t, here ya go. Get yourself a copy of the mag, cuz we don’t have a transcription of the interview which is quite long. The piece concerns DOGMA, and also has a nifty sidebar analyzing and comparing the 3rd and final drafts. The issue also has interviews with Neil Gaiman and Paul Dini (although the guy interviewing him disses Kevin’s SUPERMAN script), and lots of other goodies. It’s on newsstands now.

HAPPY HALLOWEEN!!!
Happy Halloween!

  • Ah yes, one of our favorite times of the year is Halloween. There’s a slight chill in the air, plenty of leftover candy to be had all over the place, and, best of all, TONS of horror flicks, old and new, on the tube. The Creepshow DVD finally arrived today, and Chris is over so we’re about to spin that sucker up. No Halloween parties or anything for us this year, the both of us are just plain tired from moving and setting up our places.

Of course, though, we couldn’t let things go without doing our traditional News Askew Halloween update. We normally take holidays off, but this one’s too much fun to miss out on. Quite a bit of stuff going on this weekend, too — Some announcements on upcoming television appearances of Kevin & other View Askew folks, more information on Dogma screenings, and a couple other newsbites.

Be sure to vote in the new poll topic (finally!). Thanks to Gene Belifuss for the suggestion.

You Guessed It: MORE Dogma Screenings!

October 31st, 1999 @ 12:00 am | No Comments » | Scooped by Brian Kanowsky, Evil Wiz, Mary Rayfield & Dig

  • A free screening of DOGMA tentatively scheduled for Nov 9, at Indiana University (Bloomington) Memorial Union – Whittenberger Audtorium. Very limited seating. Student/Faculty priority, but some passes may be available to public. Keep an eye out for passes. More details to come upon official announcement. Estimated chance of entry: somewhere in the middle.
  • More of the ‘Dog in Dallas: There’s a screening of it at the Loews Keystone on Nov. 3rd at 7:30. Tickets were handed out at a store downtown called “Off the Street Dallas” starting today. Hopefully you snagged some or can stop in for whatever remains.
  • There will be an advanced screening of Dogma on Tuesday November 9th for Ohio State University students at the AMC Lennox. Students can win passes from the station The Big Wazoo 107.1. Nice name, huh?

Kevin’s On Split Screen & MTV…

October 31st, 1999 @ 12:00 am | No Comments » | Scooped by Brad & Chris

  • Kevin will be talking to John Pierson in a two part episode of Split Screen. They spend most of the two 30 minute episodes talking seriously about Dogma – The controversy, the Catholic League, the change in distrbutors, etc. Split Screen airs exclusively on the Independent Film Channel and the airdates are as follows:
Part 1

– Monday Nov 1st, 8:00pm and 11:00pm
– Saturday Nov 6, 5:30pm

Part 2

– Monday Nov 8,8:00pm and 11:00pm
– Saturday November 13th, 5:30pm

Check this out: We hear this interview is SO good that it may actually be included on the Dogma DVD itself, kinda like they did with Tarantino’s Charlie Rose interview and the Criterion Pulp Fiction laserdisc. Here’s your chance to see it right away.

  • Many of you caught the fact that Kevin and Jay are due for an appearance on Total Request Live next week on MTV but didn’t know the day — Well, last we heard, it’s scheduled for Thursday, November the 4th. Tune in, we’re sure it’ll be a lot of fun. Or stop by Times Square and hold up some silly signs or something.

  • Clive Young’s given the Jay & Silent Bob action figures yet another starring role — In this short flick, they meet up with Bill & Ted. Check it out at his site HERE.
  • More on the Dogma novel: Amazon.Com is now listing a HARDCOVER version of the book, from Hyperion, due in January. No idea if this is just an old error or a new announcement we haven’t officially heard yet. If anyone from any of these publishing companies knows more, drop us a line. We’ll try and clear this book stuff up soon. As far as we know, all you can count on is the screenplay paperback due about a week after the flick’s release.
  • We’re pleased to announce that Alanis’ amazing new track, “Still”, is now available online once again. You can listen to it at the Maverick records site: http://www.maverickrc.com/dogma/ or through the link on the official Dogma website.
  • The Jersey Trilogy is playing in lovely Toronto next week from Tuesday-Thursday at the Royal Theater. On Tuesday, catch Clerks at 7 and Mallrats at 9. Wednesday, catch Mallrats at 7 and Chasing Amy at 9. Finally, on Thursday, catch Clerks at 7 and Amy at 9. Stop by and watch the classics up on the big screen.

Have a safe and happy Halloween, and watch out — Those things that go “bump” in the night might have fangs…

  • Whew, was this a LONG friggin week or WHAT?!?!? Anyway, with the weekend on the way, news has actually slowed down a little bit, as well. We’ve been adding some new pics and stories to the Dogma Benefit wrapup stuff, so be sure and check that out along with Dogma Rumor Control, which continues to be updated with new reviews and press stuff exclusive to that page.

Today, we’ve got yet another update on advance screenings of Dogma, all the View Askew stuff summarized from the latest issue of Wizard, and a couple of very interesting NewsBites. Read on, and have a great weekend. The weather here in Central PA is supposed to be beautiful…
