Ben Affleck Featured In TV Guide…

April 19th, 1998 @ 12:00 am | No Comments » | Scooped by Joe Hatton

  • In the latest issue of TV Guide, Ben Affleck is featured in an article on stars BEFORE they were stars. Here’s the text:
Ben AFFLECK

TV work includes: Against the Grain (1993-1994)

Ben AffleckMajor movies: “Chasing Amy”, “Good Will Hunting”The Oscar-winning screenwriter (for “Good Will Hunting”) played the reluctant star quarterback in a small Texas town in this drama (above). But NBC executives took a while to warm up to the idea of Affleck in a lead role. “They really didn’t want him,” recalls cocreator Dave Alan Johnson, even though Affleck had already appeared in the film “School Ties” and, from 8 to 14, had hosted the PBS documentary series The Voyage of the Mimi. Originally, Johnson says Affleck tried out for the part of a prima donna player. “We were sold on the idea that this guy is a jerk, but he turned around and could play this hero that everyone loved,” Johnson says. “He was so convincing in both roles, yet they were polar opposites.”

  • It’s been a busy news week here at the site, so we’ve got an early Saturday update here for you to get us all caught up…Be sure to surf over to Dogma: Rumor Control for the scoop on last Tuesday’s big extras shoot…And we’re expecting to hear from Kevin sometime this weekend with details on our set visit…All in all, a pretty exciting time here at the site! Alright on with the show…

The Reports Of Casey’s Death Are Greatly Exaggerated…

April 18th, 1998 @ 12:00 am | No Comments » | Scooped by Silent Sean & Silent Sean

  • It happens from time to time…Someone starts a rumor and it gets way out of control, and the rumor starter sits back and chuckles as everyone else picks up where he left off…That’s sorta what happened on the web board last night when a rumor regarding Casey Affleck was started. Anyway, Kevin stopped by to clear the air and give us some more Dogma-related scoops:
Just spoke with Ben – Casey‘s on set in NYC doing ‘200 Cigarettes’. Since he’s shooting this evening, it’s a safe assumption that he’s not shuffled loose the mortal coil.

Folks, you might want to verify shit like that before you throw it into cyberspace. It just about gave Affleck cardiac arrest. Please – a little more responsibility in the future.

Short of that, there’s nothing much new to report. Same old, same old – shot some great stuff, captured some amazing performances, watched some great dailies.

Like anything else in life, it all becomes somewhat commonplace after the first few weeks. Unlike much else in life, the moment we start shooting a new scene, it’ll all take on that spring feeling of crisp, fresh renewal.

Good God – I’m starting to sound like smalls.

Anyhoo, I saw some pix of our ‘God’ in her costume. Quite nice. Abigail (the costume designer) has outdone herself yet again – no easy feat, that, as all the wardrobe in the flick’s been quite keen thus far.

Today, the Miramax folks held a photo session for the poster shoot. One by one, they’re snapping portraits of the cast, for what we’re all sure is going to be another exemplary Miramax campaign on this flick when it nears release. Jay and I won’t be shooting ours until after we wrap Pittsburgh, but mostly everyone else will be done by then.

Tomorrow, we finish what we affectionately refer to as ‘the train sequence’. After that, it’s a day down on the Lord’s day (only fitting on this picture), and back at it Monday morn.

We’re almost at the halfway mark for the shoot, folks. And while the end’s not in sight just yet, I can see a time when I’ll be able to kick back at the Stash and not worry about a 7:00am call time…

Which is what I’m doing now. G’night.

Hope that straightens everything out for you. We’ll probably hear more from Kevin later this weekend.

Just spoke with Ben – Casey‘s on set in NYC doing Ridley Scott‘s direction.

We wouldn’t be surprised if the film ever sees the light of day at this point…And we’d throw down our cash to see “I Am Legend” before Burton’s Superman any old day of the week. Oh well, that’s Hollywood for ya..

  • Wanna see ‘Chasing Amy’ on the big screen free of charge? Live in the Providence, Rhode Island area? Got some free time this weekend? Well my friend, you’re in luck! On the main green of Brown University, the flick will be showing this Saturday at midnight, outside on a huge screen on the side of one of the buildings! My college did this a few years back with Pink Floyd’s The Wall and it was a rousing success. The film is totally free as part of the school’s Spring Weekend party.
  • Not to open up old wounds, but we thought this would make a nice follow-up regarding all of the “Object of My Affection” stuff we talked about…A local Las Vegas newspaper referred to the film by saying, “…it might as well be called ‘Chasing My Picture Perfect Best Friend Amy’s Wedding for Nine Months.'” Thought you might be interested. No hate mail, please!
  • Let the plugs continue! Here’s a sweet GWH website that contains stills, reviews, multimedia, the entire shooting script, and much more. If you like the flick, you’ll love this site.

Well folks, we’re off to enjoy the weekend for a bit…Catch you next update. Have a good one.

Brad & Chris To Hit Pittsburgh On Tuesday!

April 17th, 1998 @ 12:00 am | No Comments » | Scooped by Brad & Chris

  • Well folks, here’s the announcement we’ve been waiting to make…At long last, we’ll be making the trek to Pittsburgh this Tuesday for a little extra work and to check out the goings-on at the Dogma set. Rumor has it that confidentiality agreements are being signed, and picture taking is out of the question, so we’ll do our best to bring back an informative and entertaining report while at the same time keeping under our contractual obligations.

Now, for the not as good news…As much as we’d like to stay in town overnight or even for the week, that’s just not gonna happen. We both have full-time jobs that made it tough just to make it to town for the day. We also plan to return on Sunday, April 26th, for the Kevin’s appearance and the Oni panel at the ComicCon. Many of you have been writing kindly with offers to show us around town, clue us in on some nightlife, or just to say hi. At this point, it doesn’t look like we’ll be spending more than those two seperate days in town. If we can meet up with any of you anywhere, we’ll do our best, but between the shooting schedule and the Con, we plan on keeping fairly busy while in town.

Anyway, we’re psyched about coming into Pittsburgh and looking forward to a good time. Watch the site for upcoming details both before the trip and certainly after our return!

My Very Own Train…

April 17th, 1998 @ 12:00 am | No Comments » | Scooped by Gramp, Silent Sean, & GWiz

  • Kevin‘s back with yet another ‘Dogma’ update…Sounds like some spiffy sets are getting built:
Yes – we built a train for the show. Ratface (our production designer) spear-headed the gorgeous, three-piece set, aided by the construction crew (far too numerous to mention, but fully appreciated nonetheless). Within the set, you’d swear it was an actual train car. It’s amazing.

Shot some grand and glorious performances with Affleck, Fiorentino, Mewes, and myself all day. We finish up the bulk of it tomorrow (with Rock in the mix), and I’ll be sad to see the Little Train That Could go away.

And while it has little significance here, I’m just passing on a rumor I’ve heard: as the projected budget sailed past $200 million, Warner Bros. has pulled the plug on ‘Superman Lives’. Not a fact, mind you – just something I heard.

I calls it kharma, Mister Burton.

By the way, the ‘Superman Lives’ stuff is being confirmed by other sources, as well, not only for the budget but, ironically enough, for SCRIPT problems!!! Take THAT, Timmy! There’s no diappointment on this end if the flick never gets made, as far as we’re concerned. To think, we’d be anticipating a summer release of flick if they’d had just let Kevin write the script he wanted and stuck to it…
