Howard Stern’s E! Show With Kev & Jay…

October 3rd, 1997 @ 12:00 am | No Comments » | Scooped by Brad & Chris

  • Those of you with access to the E! channel will want to tune in tonight…We heard Howard mention on the air today that tonight’s show will be “the girl that lights up a room”, which is the same show where Kevin and Jay acted as judges. Thanks to Vanessa for dropping us a line to make sure we heard this, too. By the way, the show airs at 11PM on both the east and the west coasts now…Not sure if our overseas friends have access to E! or not. They always put a good show together, so definitely check it out if it’s not past your bedtime.

Kevin Selling Out? Nah…

October 3rd, 1997 @ 12:00 am | No Comments » | Scooped by Brad & Chris

  • Mark Guess tells us that Drew’s Script-O-Rama has started a poll as to whether Kevin Smith “sold out” by agreeing to script Fletch 3. Kevin’s actually a true Fletch fan and, although I’m sure the money’s nice and all, isn’t writing the script just cuz the cash was there. Stop by the site and cast your vote, hopefully in Kev’s favor (although it IS a free internet). We’ll keep a close eye and let you know how it all turns out.

Yep, It’s Down…

October 2nd, 1997 @ 12:00 am | No Comments » | Scooped by Brad & Chris

  • Nope, it’s not just you. ViewAskew.Com has been down since sometime later last evening. At this point, 5:45PM eastern, it’s STILL down. We talked to Ming a while back about a system to inform you about downtime and when to expect the site back up, but, unfortunately it’s not anything that’s in direct control of his or anyone else’s related to the site. The server’s NOT in New Jersey, and there’s actually no way to predict when downtime’s going to occur. We’ll keep you informed with everything we know right here, of course…

Kevin Smith To Script “Fletch 3″…

October 2nd, 1997 @ 12:00 am | No Comments » | Scooped by Brad & Chris

  • Man, you guys are GOOD! I came home from work today to find SIX e-mail messages from a bunch of loyal scoopers that informed us of this news: Special thanks go out to (In mailbox received order) HolyToads,Justin McGill,Alex Bogdan,Garett,Jay Gunn, and Jason Hambach. Funny thing is, Kevin actually mentioned that he’d be scripting Fletch 3 at the Rutgers appearance, we just forgot to mention it amongst all the confusion and other cool stuff we heard that night. Anyway, here’s the “official” story:
Kevin Smith To Write Third ‘Fletch’ Picture

By Chris Petrikin

HOLLYWOOD (Variety) – Chevy Chase is teaming up with independent filmmaker Kevin Smith for a third installment of thepopular “Fletch” films.

Chase, who starred in the 1985 original, as well as its 1989 sequel, “FletchLives”, is attached to reprise his role as the wise-acre, undercover crime reporter with a penchant for absurd disguises and pseudonyms.

Smith, the writer-director of the hit Miramax comedies “Clerks” and “Chasing Amy”, has signed a deal with Universal Pictures to write the script. He may also direct the film, which is going by the tentative title “Fletch 3.”

While Smith admits that he “learned to write dialogue” from Gregory McDonald’s series of “Fletch” novels, he told Daily Variety that his take on the third film will be based on his original idea rather than a specific book, as had been the case with the previous films.

He will move the main character, a die-hard Lakers fan, from his L.A. base to the East Coast, and will write it in the spirit of“The Third Man”.

He first will shoot “Dogma”, based on his original screenplay, and slated to go before the cameras for Miramax in February.

The “Fletch” films have been two of Chase’s most popular films. The films have grossed nearly $85 million combined at the box office. The original “Fletch” was helmed by Michael Ritchie — who alsodirected the sequel — and was adapted by Andrew Bergman from McDonald’s novel.

“Fletch 3” also brings Smith back to the studio system, after an irksome gig writing the screenplay for Warner Bros.’“Superman Lives”. Smith’s version of the script, which stayed true to the “Superman” comic series, was rejected by helmer Tim Burton after he signed to direct the film. Subsequently, the film has been postponed until April, and Smith said that because of the favorable notices and success of “Chasing Amy,” “I can come back into a studio again.”

From what we recall, Kevin didn’t at all seem sure about the directing part, but he’ll definitelybe writing the script. Should be interesting to see how this one turns out. Kevin mentionedthat he really is a huge “Fletch” fan, so I suppose this one should be the “Superman Lives” ofthe “Fletch” series. Let’s just hope it works out better!

Just something you might want to look for in a rerun or possibly in their weekend edition of the broadcast.

“Dogma” To Be Delayed?

October 1st, 1997 @ 12:00 am | No Comments » | Scooped by Brad & Chris

  • Corona’s Movie Rumors Page reports that a Dogma’s scheduled February filming may be delayed a bit, due to a scheduling conflict with actor Chris Rock. Could this mean a setback, or even the recasting of Chris’s role? Here’s the whole story taken from the site (Thanks go out to D’oh for the info):
September 30, 1997… Filming of the picture may get pushed back past its planned February 1998 start date, this scooper tells us. The reason may be due to actor/comedian Chris Rock and his schedule. According to our scooper, Rock’s been approached to play a significant role in Lethal Weapon 4, which plans to shoot around the same time. Will Dogma be delayed, or will Rock’s role be re-cast if the actor chooses to star in the Mel Gibson /Danny Glover picture?

Big Helium Dog Still Under The Knife!

September 29th, 1997 @ 12:00 am | No Comments » | Scooped by Brad & Chris

  • That wacky Brian Lynch character wrote us a nice little note in his typical nutty fasion last night to fill us in on the status of Big Helium Dog. As of yesterday, they’ve got the first seven pages of the script edited and ready to go, amounting to “eight an’ a half minutes of fun and merriment.” (Sorry, could’t resist quoting Brian on that one…) Anyway, he also mentioned that our scene(s) with Kevin are still intact and you can see us in frame, clear as day, which is really cool! Whether this will make the final cut remains to be seen, but Brian says our chances look good. We’ll be calling Brian as editing and post-production continues to get you all the latest on the film. Seems like everything’s just grand for now, though.
