Chasing Amy LD Criterion Site Online!

December 10th, 1997 @ 12:00 am | No Comments » | Scooped by Brad & Chris

  • We gotta say, Ming’s done another FINE job with this one. After viewing the material on this baby, any fan without a laserdisc player’s gonna be in line at the local electronics shop tomorrow.

Here, you’ll find some photos from inside the disc, stills from the 10 deleted scenes, and some QuickTime video (as well as some non-disc Web exclusives). The clips consist of some hilarious banter between the gang on subjects such as Ben’s ONE improvisational moment, Jay’s performance on the commentary (as compared to the Clerks Commentary…yeah, you know what we mean), and lots more. Check out the site here or our direct links to the feeds:

Finally, On A Personal Note…

August 11th, 1997 @ 12:00 am | No Comments » | Scooped by Brad & Chris

  • Hey you. Yes, YOU. Thanks a lot for checking in with us. Whether you’re a new visitor or a regular, it’s nice of you to drop by and support us. Feedback’s been great lately, and we’ve been hearing lots of positive things from the common fanboys (like us) all the way up to the bigwigs at and around View Askew! Nothing like a nice e-mail to make us feel all warm and fuzzy inside…It makes working on the page more of a joy, as well. Don’t forget we’re here to serve, but also to listen. Scoop us with your news and rumors! Be a part of the action!

By the way, sorry for the lack of, as we say, “real news” around lately. Those of you who read the web board fairly regularly can probably see not a whole lot is going on. Probably just the calm before the storm, though! We’re even hoping to get some first-hand, inside scoops on some of goings-on in the Red Bank area in the next couple months, so stick with us. See ya next time.

Esoterica Chat Cliff’s Notes…

July 28th, 1997 @ 12:00 am | No Comments » | Scooped by Brad & Chris

  • Well, myself and a bunch of other View Askew fans cranked up the speakers and opened our RealAudio sessions up to listen live to Kevin’s chat on Esoterica last night. For those of you who missed it, here’s a summary of what went down & what we learned:
  • A few IRC and WWWBoard regulars got in on the phone lines. VioLenT BoB, whom some of you may know from the board, got quite a few words in, including his main question about Big Helium Dog, and even snuck a “News Askew” inthere for us. Thanks, BoB! Upon being questioned about secret stuff in Dogma or the 5th film, Kev said something to the effect of (not exact quote), “I think he missed the target and hit a tree.” (referring to the next film’s plot revolving around a theme park). Hmmm…
  • Kevin’s in the talking/early planning stages of possibly holding his own ComicCon in the New Jersey area. This would be VERY cool if it came to light. If anyone can make it happen, we’re sure that Kev can!
  • “Dogma” will begin lensing in February, with filming continuing into June. Filming takes place in Memphis, mainly due to weather conditions necessary for the film.
  • Kev hasn’t read his e-mail in over a month now, so if you e-mailed him recently or were planning to do that, we’d suggest posting your questions/comments on the WWWBoard instead.
  • The hosts of Esoterica don’t know too much about Kevin Smith aside from the Clerks laserdisc they watched the night before the interview, and the female (Astra) seems to swear uncontrollably. Some of the more painful things I heard spoken by the hosts were, “Is Bluntman & Chronic a real comic?”,”It was so funny, I was pissing myself” (overheard several times), as well as an argument the host trying to have with Kev about none of his dialogue being ad-libbed, and citing the cut scenes from Clerks (as I said before, their only source of Smith info) as an example of ad-libbing. I suppose any footage that gets cut from a movie is an ad-lib in that man’s world. The way some people think…

Basically, I think the phone calls carried the show. For a listener who’s been in the dark about what’s been going on lately, I suppose a good portion of the show (when Kev got to talk) might be pretty informative for you. For those of you who read our board and the WWWBoard pretty regularly, you’ve just about heard it all. Then again, I think this will most likely ALWAYS be the case.

Here’s a direct feed to last night’s Esoterica show! It’s around an hour long, so get comfortable and grab a sandwich or something (and be sure you have RealAudio/Player installed) before you start the show…

A New Look, A New Philosophy: Announcing News Askew!!!

July 7th, 1997 @ 12:00 am | No Comments » | Scooped by Brad & Chris

Okay, so we slacked off a little…All right, we admit it. We slacked off a LOT. The important part is, we’re BACK! Back and ready. As promised, we’re now going to do our best to make this site THE View Askew news authority. We’ll try our best to keep up with the Message Boards, but we can’t do it all alone! That’s where YOU come in. Please feel free to send any newsbits you come across to brad@newsaskew.com. If all goes well, you should be able to come here on a daily basis for a quick read to find out all that’s going on with Kevin Smith and the gang.

What’s happened with us? Here’s a rundown of the past month and a half:

  • When we last left off, we were about to take a trip into The Stash. It was around a 3 hour drive from our place here in Central PA. Found Red Bank without a problem. It was pretty cool driving around the hometown of the Askew team. The Stash is easy to spot once you get on the block. The giant Jay and Silent Bob’s Secret Stash sticker covering the window is a dead giveaway. We browsed around, looked at all the cool original Bluntman & Chronic and Mallrats comic book artwork on the walls, took a gander at some of the swag, and went on our merry way. We were hoping to place an order for some signed Amy posters, alas, we discovered they were gone as well as out of print (We’ve since lucked upon original Chasing Amy AND Clerks posters, thankfully!).
  • The drinking games for Clerks, Mallrats, and Chasing Amy are still here and will ALWAYS remain here. Thanks to everyone for your continued support through your e-mails and your suggestions. You’ve been helping us make the games better, and we appreciate it. Keep the feedback coming. All e-mails and suggestions are read and will be responded to personally and promptly.
  • We STILL need a logo! SOMEONE out there must be an artist. Have you LOOKED at that ugly News Askew TEXT at the top of our page?!?! Help us get rid of it and see your work come to life on our page! What we’d like is a logo with some nice graphics that says either “News Askew”, “Drinks Askew”, or combines the both of them in some creative way. The best one will become our official logo and be seen by all of the Askewers who visit the news page. Oh, and you’ll get all the credit, don’t worry…Send your submissions to brad@newsaskew.com.
  • Anyway, if you don’t already, read the View Askew Web Board, and come back often for all the latest Askew news served up for ya right here in a nice small package.
