Jay & Silent Bob’s Video Stash – Thoughts, Etc…

February 18th @ 12:00 am | No Comments » | Scooped by Brad & Chris

  • Well, what can we say? Once again the gang put together an entertaining and very amusing piece of media to add to the View Askew gallery. Kevin and Jay were in top form as they hung out in the Stash and introduced the bits (our favorite of which had to be the Jay’s Niece piece), showed some clips of classic MTV videos that we remembered the same way from our childhood, and of course got those rarely-seen VA videos we’ve been taking about all week on the air for yet another run.

Ming has already set up a cool page with all of the spots converted to Real Video for everyone to enjoy over and over again. Just click HERE to check them out.

Hopefully the show, and the spots (which you’ll start seeing pop up on MTV fairly often for the next month or so) will broaden the audience, so more people out there can enjoy View Askew’s flicks and become more familiar with Kevin’s work. The shorts were definitely filmed in a general way, so newcomers could see the humor in them just as well as us veterans. Kudos to the whole gang responsible…You all did a fantastic job. It was cool seeing Walt & Bry getting lots of screentime, as well.

If you missed the special, according to MTV, it will air again at 10 AM, this Saturday morning, same time on all coasts, we believe. Don’t miss it AGAIN!

You can also e-mail MTV directly HERE to let them you you loved the show and want to see more cool things like it in the future.

By the way, on an unrelated note…this is the SECOND thunderstorm we’ve had in the middle of WINTER in central Pennsylvania this year. What the HELL is going on here?!?!?

EXCLUSIVE! Oni Press’s Next Project & Cover!

  • Thanks to Joe Nozemack, we’ve once again got an exclusive on what you’re sure to be plunking down your cash on when you hit your local comic shop…And what a scoop it is!

Visit our new Oni Press Page to view the cover of Jay & Silent Bob #1!!! The book will be a three issue mini-series that will ship in June, July, and August. Of course, the books are written by Kevin Smith himself, with artwork by Duncan Fegredo. The first issue will have two covers: The one you see on our Oni page, as well as a photo cover of Jay & Bob. Issue 2’s cover art will be done by Mike Allred!

It gets even better! Here’s Joe: “This story starts with Jay and Bob leaving the diner in “Chasing Amy”,getting on a bus and at the end of issue three they end up at their intro in “Dogma”.That’s right, this mini-series will get them from Amy to Dogma.”

All we can say is…Coooooooool. We can’t wait to get our hands on these books. Excellent idea, using the comics as a bridge between the flicks. Genius. That’s all we can say for now, but be sure to watch us for the latest Oni Press exclusives!

By the way, don’t let your comic shop tell you that they can’t get these Oni books in…There’s PLENTY of books out there, they just gotta order the things…And in past experience, if I need a book and ask for it, the owners of the shops have been happy to oblige…So, to coin an old phrase, ask for them by name. Kevin’s books are selling much faster than these shop owners have predicted, but don’t let them tell you that they’re sold out!

If you’re having trouble locating a shop that sells the books, call 1-888-COMIC-BOOK, enter your zipcode, and bingo…You’ll get a listing of a few shops in your area.

  • Heard of the upcoming flick, “Plump Fiction” yet? It’s basically another one of those parody-type flicks that lampoons something…This time, the target is indie flicks. Our astute scooper has noted that the IMDB entry of the film claims that, you guessed it, “Clerks” is one of the films being targeted. Should be interesting, anyway…plus it gives them a chance to get artistic and switch over to B&W for a few, we’d guess.
  • Catch Minnie Driver on Access Hollywood tonight, where rumor has it, she discusses her breakup with Matt. That’s TONIGHT, Monday. Check your local listings.
  • Dave Pirner of Soul Asylum was spotted on MTV‘s “120 Minutes” last night, chatting about Kevin and the “Chasing Amy” score. According to our scooper, here’s what he had to say (paraphrased):
Well… not much. They’re friends, Kevin’s cool, Dave was scoring the film and Kevin would come in and say “yeah, that’s good”, he likes making scores but the phone isn’t ringing off the hook…
