  • Here’s a CLASSIC Kev quote from Inside.Com that elaborates a bit on that story we alluded to from San Diego last update:
Every filmmaker may dream of trashing the critics who’ve trashed his work. Kevin Smith actually did it at a Comic-Con International panel discussion last weekend. FilmThreat critic Ron Wells, who had run a scathing review of Smith’s film Dogma, stood to question another panel member before being abruptly interrupted by Smith. ”Wait a minute, you’re Ron Wells?” Smith asked of Wells, who wore a white tanktop and sported spiked blond hair. ”Now I don’t feel so fucking bad that you trashed my movie. As a matter of fact, now that I get an eyeful of you, I actually feel pretty fucking good that you didn’t like it.” Wells tried to ignore the comment and ontinued with his question — after the laughter finally died.
  • Got some more Green Arrow for ya right here, in a wonderfularticle courtesy of Wizard World. Mostly rehash of our last news, but still, if ya wanna keep up, check it out.
  • You’ll find a small mention of Kevin’s use of the online community on the IFilmPro website:
“The directors who are doing the best job of making contact with fans online are those like Burton, who already have a tight relationship with their audience. Kevin Smith posted his production diary for Dogma online on a daily basis; the writing feels like a direct extension of the slacker-speak of characters in his movies.”
  • Upcoming Affleck film news:“Swordfish”, written by Skip Woods, and to be directed by Dominic Sena (Gone In 60 Seconds), tells the story of the “world’s most dangerous spy” hired by the CIA to to coerce a computer hacker recently released from prison to help steal $6 billion in unused government funds. Production of the film is scheduled to begin this September, and will feature Ben Affleck along with Vinnie Jones and John Travolta. Affleck’s role will likely be one of the minor ones, with Travolta (hot off that awful Battlefield Earth debacle) in the lead. We think.
  • Claire Forlani‘s in the news again in a couple places, with 2 pages devoted to her in the latest issue of “Gear” magazine this month:
Having survived early roles in cinematic punchlines like Mallrats and Police Academy 7: Mission To Moscow, the British-bred actress has quietly illuminated several independent pictures…”

“Even now, these teenage boys will sidle up to me looking kind of cool and say, ‘You’re the Mallrats girl, right?’ Then they don’t say anything because they’re so star-struck,” Forlani said. “I just want all those boys out there to know, I love you all.”

Also, she’s up against Liv Tyler in TV Guide’s online “You Sexy Thing” poll this week.
