• Hey there all…Been away for a while, as things have been on the quiet side this week with Kevin out on the west coast doing the con thing. We’ve got the first shots from that today for ya, by the way. Otherwise, just some newsbites to mention, and fairly minor ones at that. Still, it’s news, right?

• Wanna see what’s going on out there at the San Diego comic con? Looks like THE place for a fanboy or fangirl to be this weekend. Here’s some shots of Kevin signing, Walt & Bry manning the View Askew booth, and lots more. We’ll have some reports and more scans later this weekend, most likely.

• A kind mention of Kev’s upcoming Fletch stint appears at iF’s online website today, though he doesn’t seem to be much of a fan of Kev’s current work:

• Some new View Askew references at a humor website called Penny Arcade for ya…One on Dogma and one on Amy. They’ve taken their cartoon characters and fit them into the one-sheet poster designs.
• Look on your comic shelves (or ask your comic supplier) for a new book from Jim Mahfood called “Jim Mahfood’s Stupid Comics”. It’s got quite a few View Askew toss-ups and Kevin references in there. Mahfood, by the way, drew some of the first View Askew comics, in case ya forgot.
• Want a copy of the Dogma DVD and are STILL holding out for the Special Edition? You may wanna check your local Blockbuster. They’re starting to sell off some previously rented copies at bargain prices. Happy hunting.
• The Mediatrip website there has a short film that’s a parody of Fight Club that’s got a very minor Kev reference in it…More of a jab, really. Check it out if you’re so inclined.
• Finally today, the Catholic League is STILL taking swipes at Dogma! Check out this excerpt from a piece found at their website:

• This show is shaping up to be a fanboy’s dream, with lots of material from Kevin and some great footage of George Lucas’s old projects and some of the most famous, rare Star Wars pieces. Remember, it airs on the Sci-Fi Channel on August 23rd (we’ve added it to the countdowns for ya). We hear that Kevin’s stuff was shot last Monday, and that it went great. Can’t wait til the 23rd? • Another Universe reports:

We’re not sure where they got the timetable from, seems pretty close, but we don’t think anything official’s on the books regarding theatrical releases and production dates yet. Watch here for the latest.

• Sadly, it seems like the UK folks still want to take the Special Edition Dogma DVD and add their own footage — The UK DVD Debate (www.dvd-debate.com) has recently reported DVD delays for Dogma in the UK, just like the US version.
• Speaking of Another Universe, loyal NA scooper Russell Lissau is working on a Joe Quesada profile piece for the website. He promises it’ll contain a nice exclusive tidbit on Kev’s upcoming Green Arrow run. The article will hit the web on August 1st.
• Congrats to the Too Many Nicknames folks on their EW mention of the Clerks Wazzup parody…Even if it was too cite the overuse of the commercial (Scary Movie WAS a bit much, ya gotta admit).

• Dogma’s finally opening theatrically in Holland in a couple of weeks, thus they’re getting some press of their own there. Check out this priceless scan of some promotional material for the flick (click to enlarge).

• More Dogma stuff: The film’s hitting the popular VCD market overseas. Here’s some scans of the disc artwork from the CDs and the sleeves being put out. Keep in mind VCD quality is a lot lower than DVD, so this must be mainly for those areas where Dogma isn’t yet available in the format.

• Finally today, for those of you anxiously awaiting to see the women of “Coyote Ugly” may want to check out the official Piper Perabo website. Sure, it’s a stretch, especially with Kev’s rewrite not enough enough for screen credit, but still, we thought it was worth a mention. 😉

• After chatting with Brian O’Halloran quite a bit at Kev’s a few weeks back, we learned that he’d be appearing in a play this month. Sounds like a good one, too. Here’s Brian with all the details!

• Diamond Distributors is now reportng that the Clerks Hardcover collection will ship NEXT week, July 26th.
• Kevin was spotted in a few short promos for the upcoming Clerks “All Access” on the 27th during IFC’s airing of Clerks this past weekend. In what looks like an all new interview, Kevin will be chatting about the Clerks animated series and lots more, starting at 5 PM eastern, when they show Clerks with commentary, extra scenes, and more. We’ll have some better details as the day draws closer.
• Dogma’s doing quite well on home video. VHS rentals have hit $24 million and DVD rentals $4 million. Adding in the 30 million it took in at theaters, an almost $60 million take for a $10 million movie…Not too shabby!
• Today’s IMDB Truly Trivia question — “Which movie’s logo is spelled out with letters lifted from Cosmopolitan, Life, Rolling Stone, Ruffles, a Clark Bar wrapper, and a Goobers box?”. You may know the answer, but did you know that was the origin of the flick’s title logo?
• Attention, Joey Lauren Adams fans — Two stories online about her flick “Bruno”: Variety/Fox announces that the film was picked up for distribution by Lions Gate and Yahoo Daily News reports the movie will air on Starz! this December.

• Speaking of Joey, seems that the UK’s not all that familiar with her. Check out this scan from a recent widescreen VHS re-release of Mallrats.

• Finally, in the News of the Strange department, check out this Star Wars fansite where their version of the movie’s dream cast features Jay Mewes as Bail Organa, Leia’s surrogate father. Umm…okaaay.

• Hey folks, thanks for stopping in. Got some odds and ends to report on today, including a post from Kevin on a few things, including his thoughts on the X-Men movie. It was actually a pretty fun flick, though it would have been nice to have seen the 45 or so minutes that was cut from the flick way back when, since it seemed a bit on the short side. Fun flick though, and it grossed a TON, paving the way for a ton more comic book flicks. Hopefully these (and the inevitable X-Men sequel) will be allowed a bigger budget, since this one did suffer a bit here and there due to the constraints. Go see it.

We’re gonna let the poll topic ride another week, it’s a fun one, and we’d like to see what the final straggling votes stack everything up to. Alright, let’s take a look at what’s new in the View Askew world today:

• This week’s edition of Starz! Movie News (airing on the network itself) did a bit on Kev’s deal to do the next Fletch flick. The show aired this past Friday, check your listings for reruns. Coincidentally, Heavy Metal 2000, which premiered on the channel this past weekend, was pretty damn cool.
• Just in case we didn’t mention it, Kevin’s got a feature page at the IMDB director’s gallery now. Check it out.
• Check out this excerpt from the latest Stan Lee chat…Maybe Kev can work a part in for the dude in View Askew 5!

• On the show The New Movie Show with Chris Gore, on FX, a clip from the Chasing Amy DVD featuring commentary from Kevin was featured on the segment “DVD film school”. The show airs over and over on the FX network (since they only run like 5 programs a week or something), so check your listings.
• Dogma pre-viewed VHS tapes are showing up at video stores all over the place, for prices as low as $9.95 (maybe even better!). You non-DVD owners out there may wanna pick up a copy.
• In this year’s financial statement, Lions Gate attributes their 129% growth (in part) to Dogma!
• Micro Film, a new magazine of indie, student, and grassroots cinema, will be interviewing Vincent Pereira about the making of A Better Place for their next issue. Check out their website HERE.
• Box Office Guru is running a poll asking folks if they’d see the new Tom Clancy flick if Ben takes over. Cast your vote and check out the results.
