Kev’s New “Arena” Column: First Two Episodes!

  • The UK’s Arena magazine began running a new column by none other than Kevin Smith himself entitled “Kevin Smith: Just Another Opinionated Asshole”. It it, Kev just basically rants and raves about whatever’s on his mind, and delves into his own personal life a bit as well. We’re happy to present the first two columns right here at News Askew, from Arena’s January and February issues. In the first, Kevin tackles spears Britney’s lack of singing and general talent when he passes by her recent HBO concert on the tube. In the second, he details the events surrounding the painting of a naked portrait of his wife, Jen. These editorial style columns are instant classics, and WELL worth your time.   • Indiana University is screening “Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back” at the Indiana Memorial Union this weekend (Jan 10,11, and 12), at 7 PM and 11 PM each night.
  • Affleck’s currently in Long Beach, filming a flick called “Gigli”. There’s a report on this same scene that appeared over at Dark Horizons today, worth checking out, and we also received this report ourselves:
I went down to Long Beach Monday (1/7) to visit my cousin and right down the street a mexican restaurant had been comandeered so that it could be used as a location for a new flick called “Gigli” starring Affleck and Jennifer Lopez. I was only able to catch one set-up Tuesday (got into Long Beach too late Monday night to see any shooting), but from what I was able to tell, it looks like it’s going to be a nighttime scene as there were lots of black tarps near the camera to block light. But the dialogue I heard wasn’t all that promising. Affleck yelled at someone to turn a radio down and the guy in turn threatened to kick Affleck’s ass and told him “James Dean just called. He wants his fucking hair back.” Yeah, it’ll probably get an ‘R’. But I’m going to withhold judgement on how lame or unlame the dialogue is until I see the film.
