  • Ya gotta love this one. An independent hip hop artist in Arizona, who also appears to be quite a View Askew fan, has recorded a promo verse on his website, inspired by View Askew productions. Catchy little tune, too. Check it out in the audio player HERE. It’s the last one on the list.
  • Bill Simmons, ESPN’s “The Sports Guy” says this about “My Name is Earl” in a recent column:
I don’t want to become That Guy who starts telling you to watch TV shows, and only because I can’t enjoy “Arrested Development” because so many people have implored me to watch it, I have to do it on my own terms (much like with “24”). So I’m just laying this out there — “My Name Is Earl” is my favorite TV comedy since the first two seasons of “Curb Your Enthusiasm.”
  • This fan art/comic has our behind the counter duo merging with an upcoming blockbuster Holiday release.

  • And finally today, we couldn’t wrap up the Halloween season without this one. A local costume contest in Indiana had a couple of very familiar-looking winners. We’ll be back with more tomorrow, as it was a fairly quiet weekend news-wise from the look ‘o things.

Brand New Clerks 2 Photos Here!

October 30th @ 11:55 am | No Comments » | Scooped by Brad & Chris

  • Kevin just posted a massive photo update on his blog, SilentBobSpeaks.com check out the un-blurred photos by clicking the thumbnails above. Also, here’s what Kevin had to say to go along with the photos:
My apologies for the lack of updates, but we’ve been pretty fucking busy. Week 3 is wrapped, and tomorrow, we start our second to last week on the show. Both cast and crew continue to dazzle. I continue to dream about getting more sleep, as I spend all day on set, then lock myself in the editing room ’til usually two or three in the morning. I may be sleepy, but I’ve cut every frame of film we’ve shot already, resulting in one hour of the movie completely assembled. The simultaneous-to-shooting editorial has been tremendously helpful in allowing us to go back to scenes and shoot any missing pieces I didn’t know we’d need, or allow me to revisit scenes I feel need a bit more (or less) detail. If you’re ever gonna make a flick, cut it (yourself) while you’re shooting, kids; you won’t regret it.

We went an extra day last week, shooting on Saturday to get Lee on his “Earl”-free day. The Randal/Lance showdown is a real highlight of the flick, but the award for scene-of-the-week goes to Mewes. When you see the film, you’ll know what I mean.

In lieu of new Boring-Ass Life entries, I submit, for your approval, a whole new slew of pics from the set of “Clerks 2?, courtesy of our ace stills man, Darren Michaels. Enjoy!

  • Radio Askew has just released the second part of their exclusive interview with Brian Lynch. Check out their podcast right HERE.
  • ViewAskew was well represented on JoBlo.com‘s new list of the Top 10 Best Friends in Film :
8. Randle Graves – CLERKS (1994)
Anybody who has ever had a job serving the public wishes they had Randal (Jeff Anderson) by their side. The worst video clerk known to man has a special ability to piss on any and all annoying customers who cross his path while still making Dante’s (Brian O’Halloran) life seem worthwhile whether it be by an in-depth discussion about the contract workers on the Death Star or consoling him after his girlfriend has sex with a dead guy in the bathroom. We all need to have these talks once in a while.

3. Brodie Bruce – MALLRATS (1995)
The guy has the answers for all of life’s problems. Best friend’s girl just dumped him? Bring him to the mall. Hungry? Get some chocolate covered pretzels. His own girl leaves him? F*ck her in an elevator later that day. Friend’s girlfriend’s dad being a dick? Stink-palm him. Can’t win on a cheesy Dating Game rip-off? Host the Tonight Show. There’s nothing too big for Brodie (Jason Lee) to overcome unless it’s getting those damn kids off the escalator and the awe of the psychic with three nipples.

  • And finally today, Buddy Christ makes a guest appearance on THIS page from the Best Week Ever Blog. Thanks for stopping by and we’ll see you tomorrow!

CLERKS 2 Casting News!

October 23rd @ 12:02 pm | No Comments » | Scooped by Chris

  • Kevin dropped by the board and gave us a nice recap of his second week of filming on CLERKS 2. He also drops some names of actors that have filmed cameos and a few others with cameos coming up this week. If you want to avoid all spoilers, make sure you avert your eyes now…
Great second week. Twenty five minutes of the movie cut together already. I couldn’t be happier.

Jeff, Brian and Rosario are fucking on fire. Jen shot last week and did a great job. We did a big Elias scene yesterday, involving Trevor in a stunt harness, which was pretty funny. Jason and I did our big scene at the top of the week.

As for day players: we shoot Jason Lee a week from today, and Kevin Weisman (Marshall from “Alias”) shoots on Monday. Last week, Ethan did a scene. The pair of auction winners (one from the CBLDF auction at Wizard World Chicago last summer and one from the Katrina Auction we ran) did their bits, too. And then there was Ben…

Dave’s doing a phenomenal job shooting. Rat’s sets and art continue to dazzle. Tony’s keeping us on schedule, and Scott and Laura are keeping us on budget and on point. Everyone seems to be enjoying themselves while we get stuff done. It’s a pretty great work environment.

Lastly, Kevin promised to have 2 new video journal entries up sometime Monday morning. We’ll get them recapped and posted here as soon as they are available!

  • Probably our favorite Newsbite in quite some time. If you’re watching “Lost”, like so many of us, you know about those mysterious numbers, to which we’ve still yet to find the exact meaning. Well, USA Today blogger Whitney Matheson has been playing around with Lost’s numbers and the cool Google Maps system. Last week, she discovered that entering them in a certain way gave you an island location outside of Australia. HOWEVER, when you enter them in directly, without spaces, to the system, you’re gonna LOVE the location that it comes up with. See that? The Askewniverse really DOES touch everything!
  • More Kevin sightings on that new deluxe Batman DVD: He also appears in the premiere documentary, LEGENDS OF THE DARK KNIGHT: THE HISTORY OF BATMAN, in more than a few segments and actually has the dubious honor of closing out the featurette. You can also see him in Part 3 of SHADOWS OF THE BAT.

  • Now that the ‘ol scanner’s fixed, we can finally bring you this one — In the most recent Wizard (#169), Kevin does a one-page interview in which he talks about his Spider-Man/Black Cat comic, Moon Knight, and answers rumors about the Star Wars TV show and a DD2 film. Note that the Clerks 2 start date in there is wrong (went to press before it changed to this month).
  • That Jason Lee segment ran on yesterday’s Don & Mike show, by the way. We hope you caught it. If anyone’s got an audio cap for us, we’d love to share it. Pass it on if you do, please.
  • HBO reports than George Carlin has another stand up special coming up. “Life is Worth Losing” debuts Saturday November 4th. Details ahead:
Direct from the stage of the Beacon Theater in New York City, a longtime HBO favorite returns for his unprecedented 13th stand-up comedy special. Uncensored and uninhibited, this all-new 75-minute show – his fifth live performance on HBO – will feature George Carlin’s dead-on observations on such subjects as extreme human behavior; the feasibility of an all-suicide cable channel; and his inimitable takes on obscure American words and phrases. Don’t miss the latest outrageous observations from America’s original counterculture spokesman, Saturday, November 5 at 10 PM EST.
  • Here’s scooper “Rob” to tell us of an interesting sighting he came across in a popular new online game (complete with a photo):

I play a game called Second Life, it’s pretty intense and is probably one of the most realistic alternate worlds in the way that things are run and the way the economy works, but anyways. I was walking into a movie theater that someone built where you can actually watch certain flicks, litterally as your character sits in a virtual theater. As I was looking around the place I decided to walk up the ramp to see the actual theater itself and loe and behold, the image I sent you is what greeted me as I headed in.
  • Seems someone has turned a Freddy Funk (who is apparently the mascot of this Funko website) wobbler into a Brodie version. Peep a photo HERE.
  • Chris is running the show here for the next week, as Brad’s off to cruise what’s left of the Caribbean on vacation. Make sure to use the SCOOPS e-mail address or Chris directly if you’ve got some news or a question. Thanks!
