- The first of what sounds like an extensive line of shirts based on the SModcast Network programs have been revealed, these based on the popular “Plus One” series. The initial set comes in black with cool art screened on both the front and back, with sizes for chicks and dudes alike. $20 for either style and available for immediate ordering.
We’re pretty sure that they’ll come up with a different title than “SMirts” (SMouterwear maybe?), but it seems that February will bring a major overhaul to the merch moving out of Jay & Silent Bob’s Secret Stash, as many new designs are introduced. To us, this seems to back up our theory that the 2011 Askewniverse Garage Sale at the Stash in Red Bank (and online, of course) will be a total clean-out of ALL the old View Askew shirts, making room for a brand new line of SModcast-themed outerwear and merch.
What does this mean? It means, if you’ve been trying to decide if you want to buy something, NOW WOULD BE A GOOD TIME TO DO IT! Coupon code “REDSTATE” even takes 15% off your entire order at the Stash (who, by the way, are selling the fantastic “Clerks” lunchbox, one of our favorite pieces of merch ever, for a ridiculous FIVE BUCKS). It sure sounds like the run of all the original Stash swag is on its way out for good, without any new stuff being produced (or, limited product lines), so grab your shirts and swag while ya still can. There’s a lot of stuff that you’ll be very disappointed you miss in your collection, and at these prices, they’re real bargains.
Stay tuned in February for more announcements regarding the online Stash and SModcast swag.

- Malcolm Ingram captured a slice of America not often seen with his acclaimed documentary “Small Town, Gay Bar”. Now, he broadens to a larger spectrum of the gay community with his new film, “Bear Nation”. Malc’s been filming for some time now, though we’re guessing a release announcement is closer with the arrival of the official site http://www.bearnationmovie.com/ . Kevin Smith is exec producing the film. No release date has been announced, though we’re thinking the guys might drop some hints when they get together for their live SModcast on February 13th. Tickets are a mere TWENTY BUCKS and now available via this online order page at the Stash. Buy ’em today, pick ’em up at the door on the 13th.
- “A Couple of Dicks” starring…Robin Williams? Seems like that was in the plan at some point, according to this TMZ posting. Seems a company called Gold Circle owned the rights before Warner Brothers, and Williams had claimed he had a “pay or play” type deal to star. The lawsuit was dismissed.
- “iPhone Savior” loves Kevin’s iPhone app, so if you haven’t ponied up the 99 cents yet, why the heck not? The reviewer cites the connection to our data here at News Askew as a big plus, and you know what, we can’t help but agree:
“…I found the ability to connect to News Askew web content to be most useful. You can find that feature buried inside the “More” tab which includes Smith’s SModcasts, Podcasts and Fanimation videos. The fact that Kevin Smith is already resident in the App Stores list of “What’s Hot” should be a small clue that this iPhone nugget is well on its way to cult superstardom.
…
“…While Smith does offer users the ability to purchase his films and soundtrack music from inside the app via iTunes, it’s not a feature being blasted in your face. Committed followers should feel overwhelmed with tremendous man-love for this epic iPhone offering. It’s a must-have dollar app well worth the price of admission.”
- In case you missed it, SModcast #104 silently made its way up on the still painted-fresh SModcast site, marking the return of Mos to the mix. Available in all streaming, downloadable, and iTunes formats right away. iTunes users, don’t forget, subscribing to the podcast will now get you instant arrival of new episodes. No more waiting!
- Don’t miss the “2010 Future Sale” currently going on at the online Stash. Items at the lowest prices they’ve ever been, with some must-have items that sit right here on the news desk every day, including beanie Mooby, the Nails lighter, inaction figures, and more. Fill in those collection gaps and stock up.
- Time to go dig out of the 2 feet of snow that dropped here in central Pennsylvania. If you’re headed out to Kevin’s big show in Toronto tonight, enjoy. As for tomorrow, Superbowl Sunday, we’re looking forward to a big game and a Saints upset. Have a nice weekend, and thanks for visiting with us at News Askew today.
Monroeville Zombies Kev Inaction: January 27th!
- You’ve seen our photos and pre-order details, but it looks like we now have an official date for this special edition Kevin Smith inaction figure. January 27th.
Kevin appears as a zombie wearing the classic Monroeville Zombies jersey. This limited edition will be available in your favorite comic shop, as well as through the Stash (pre-order information coming soon if it’s not already there by the time you’re reading this).
The figure is being advertised as having “zero articulation, zero accessories, and zero signs of life”. Gotta love that.
Thanks to Horror-Movies.ca for the info. While it’s still not the long-waited “Clerks 2” set announcement we’ve wanted, it gets another inaction in the collection, and that’s ok with us.

Steal of The Day: Jay and Silent Bob Ass Poster – SIGNED by KEVIN SMITH…
- You gotta love these steals. It seems like they are just getting cooler and more unique as the holidays approach. This classic Jay & Bob poster from the “Clerks” days comes with an authentic, Kevin Smith signature. For TEN BUCKS! Not just the poster, but signed by Kevin’s very own hand. Probably the cheapest signed item we’ve ever seen. As always, click the poster above for an order — While we think the time for Christmas shipping is past now, it’s still a great late gift or one to give yourself with that inevitable Christmas cash that grandma’s giving ya.
We’re still recovering from the big storm here in the Northeast (bad timing when it gets in the way of family events/travels, shopping, and the like), but we’ve got some news, a Twitter update, and a little contest for ya, all coming up later today. Stay tuned.

- A couple of guys on YouTube thought it would be fun to post a video of their “process” as they attempt to find title replacements for “A Couple of Dicks” with humorous results. We’re secretly rooting for “Jay & Silent Bob Become Black and Bruce Willis and Become Cops and Then Fight Crime”.
- A Clerks TAS lunchbox for FIVE DOLLARS!?!?!? This is the greatest Secret Stash Holiday Sale we have EVER seen. And we’ve been doing this a while. Do yourself a favor — Click over and pick up some amazing bargains. Totally amazing prices. Buy before this stuff is GONE.
- Here’s a little more information on that German “Die Hard” clip we ran the other day — Apparently we missed the best part of the joke. From a German-speaking reader:
“The joke here is not that Kevin’s character is called eBay. They speak in a South-German dialect and obviously Bruce has bought that Boba Fett cardboard cutout from Kevin on eBay and finally wants it. Kevin argues that it was a private auction but finally Bruce gets the upper hand when he tells him that he will give him bad rep on eBay if he doesn’t get his Boba Fett.”
Wow, talk about a different movie, eh?
- Scooper (and Oilers fan) Riss creates this cool Oilers-inspired Kevin Smith logo that we think we look dang cool on a hockey jersey. Nice work, sir.
- A “Mallrats” reference pops up in this recent entry on “People of Walmart”, a site that collects photos of actual Walmart customers in their natural habitat. Man, there really is a site for everything on the web, isn’t there? Good stuff.
- Author Mitch Albom explains The Art of Storytelling in this fresh interview courtesy of Writer’s Digest. There’s not a mention of Kevin or “Hit Somebody”, alas, but we thought our readers might want to keep an eye on Albom and his work as we prepare to see the start of “Hit Somebody” with the author’s blessing.
