FULL Details on the new “Zack and Miri Make a Porno” DVD/Bluray!

January 17th @ 6:23 am | No Comments » | Scooped by Brad & Chris

  • Kevin was kind enough to share very specific details on all the goodies showing up when you pop those cherry “Zack and Miri” DVDs and Blurays into your players early next month. Check THIS out:

      – 43 Deleted scenes (totaling 95 minutes)
      – 22 Money Shots Webisodes (50 minutes)
      – Feature-length documentary, Popcorn Porn: Watching Zack & Miri Make A Porno (75 minutes)
      – Comic-con Panel 2008 (23 minutes)
      – Gang-bang: Outtakes & Bloopers (13 minutes)
      – Seth vs. Justin: Battle for Improvisational Supremacy (8 minutes)
      – Blu-ray only: BD Live—which will gives us the option of having downloadable bonus features at some time in the future

Totaling 4 hours and 21 minutes of bonus

Full disclosure: The extra feature – Seth vs. Justin: Battle for Improvisational Supremacy (8 minutes) is only one of two parts. Due to Weinstein Co’s exclusive deal with Blockbuster, there’s a Blockbuster-Exclusive Extra Feature called “Seth vs. Justin: Battle for Improvisational Supremacy Pt. 2.” So if you’re a BlockBuster cat, there’s that. I have no control over these things.

Here’s some general comments from Kevin in response to WWWBoard queries on the disc.

On a single vs. double disc DVD: “I was informed it couldn’t be one disc and have all the material we wanted on it – at least according to the folks at Weinstein Co./Genius Home Video.”

On the extras: “There’s well over an hour of extra footage. The doc itself is an hour. I don’t know what the “Money Shots” combined are, but it’s a bunch. Then there’s the flick, the San Diego ComiCon Q&A, behind-the-scenes featurettes. This DVD has, essentially, all the elements that all of our DVDs have had, except a commentary track and intros.”

See Kevin’s post for more details on his feelings on the lack of a commentary track this time around.

Finally, in his post Kevin also shared the absolutely fantastic Hong Kong poster for the film, which he would have loved as the Bluray DVD’s cover (but would have gotten sued over it). Check this work of art out.

“Zack and Miri Make a Porno” hits DVD and Bluray on Tuesday, February 3rd.

2-Disc “Porno” DVD Features Feature Doc, Deleted Scenes, & Bloopers…

January 12th @ 9:07 pm | 2 Comments » | Scooped by Ming, Brad & Chris

  • Kevin’s confirmed via a WWWBoard post today that the upcoming (February 3, 2008) “Zack and Miri Make a Porno” DVD will feature the following goodies:

    • A bunch of deleted and extended scenes
    • The full length documentary by Zak and Joey (last we heard, titled “Popcorn Porn”
    • All of the “Money Shots” promo videos (uncensored, we assume with never before seen episodes that didn’t make the web)
    • A blooper reel

The standard DVD set’s running 2 discs, so likely you’ll get the film on one, and the doc on the other. Of course, the Bluray will have everything on one easy place due to the massive storage capacity.

The one massive omission here is an audio commentary track, we believe the first time it’s missing on a View Askew DVD. Kevin states an interest in using SModcast to record such a track that will run along with the film, so watch for it. Lucky Bluray owners should also be able to embed future tracks released automatically into the disc.

We’ll cross our fingers for an early copy so we can hook ya up with all the other secrets and details on what’s sure to be another gem on your DVD shelves next month.

TUESDAY NIGHT – Netherbeast Inc. Release Party @ Cinespace!

January 6th @ 12:17 am | No Comments » | Scooped by Brad & Chris

  • Tomorrow’s the big day that the Jason Mewes starrer “Netherbest Incorporated” hits DVD shelves everywhere, and Cinespace is holding a big bash to celebrate (January 6th).

CineSpace is located at 6356 Hollywood Blvd. in Hollywood. Doors open at 6pm and the bash will run until roughly 7:30pm. Admission is free as long as you purchase a copy of the DVD on site; an RSVP to netherbeast@cox.net is welcome, but not mandatory. Though we were not given an official list of celebrity attendees, expect many of the film’s stars and some special guests — Mewes is actually off working on a new project at the moment, so getting him there will be tough, but you never know. Still, always great to support the guy and all he does.

We’d like to once again thank the producers and creators of the film for generously offering us up 5 free DVD copies of the film to give away to our readers. Those of you who entered the contest will be getting an e-mail TOMORROW as we announce our official winners, chosen by random drawing.

The Ronalds Brothers’ Netherbeast Incorporated is an offbeat comedy with a quirky twist on the vampire tale set in modern day corporate America. By the time you are reading this, copies of the flick are available for purchase across the web at all the major outlets, as well as in stores like Best Buy and Circuit City. Grab yourself one and add it to your collection.

For full details on Tuesday’s events, check out Shock Till You Drop. We hope some News Askew readers can make it in, remember all it takes is the purchase of a DVD to get you in the door and meet with the films stars and creators. Thanks again to Rolands Brothers Productions, and we’ll be back tomorrow with a list of lucky winners as well.

“Clerks 2” Blu-ray Moves, “Zack And Miri” Stay Put?

January 3rd @ 11:50 am | 2 Comments » | Scooped by Cole R, Justin Cooper, Jonathan Daby

  • A scooper writes us to let us know that the “Zack and Miri Make a Porno” DVD and Bluray release is listed at February 10th in the internal Blockbuster computers, and that he’s never seen them get a release date wrong. So, pretty strong evidence that we’ll see the disc on that day, even though we have yet to see a final confirmation.

Meanwhile, check out a look at this DVD cover for “Porno” that was discovered on the Amazon.com servers. This likely means we’ll see a confirmed date and some real specs on the disc’s contents soon. The cover looks like a newly composed shot to feature the entire cast, and doesn’t match any of the previous poster artwork that we’ve seen. We like it, though.

The only item giving us pause is the news that the Bluray release of “Clerks 2” has been bumped up a week to February 3rd:

The Weinstein Company has officially announced the Blu-ray release of Kevin Smith’s ‘Clerks II’, which is due to hit store shelves on February 3rd. Originally scheduled for a February 10th release, this two disc set will feature all the extras from the previous HD DVD release. No technical specs have been announced at this time.

Typically, studios like to release similar titles on the same day, so if you’re going to the store to pick up one, you’ll get both — So PERHAPS “Porno” will also bump up a week. We’ll let ya know as soon as we know.

  • Moviefone’s “Year End Movie Poll” features “Zack & Miri Make a Porno” in several categories — Surf on over and let your voice be heard, show the film and its stars some much-deserved love and praise. It looks like you need to answer each question to move on to the next, and our heroes are scatered throughout.
  • The Digital Bits announces the Blu-Ray arrival of a modern classic, “Donnie Darko”, which will again feature the commentary track featuring directory Richard Kelly with Kevin Smith:

Also newly announced by Fox for BD release on 2/10 is Donnie Darko (SRP $34.99). This will be a 2-disc set (one Blu-ray and one DVD). Extras on the BD disc will include both the theatrical cut and the director’s cut, 3 audio commentary tracks (one with writer/director Richard Kelly and Jake Gyllenhaal on the theatrical cut, a second with the cast and crew on the theatrical cut, and a third with writer/director Richard Kelly and Kevin Smith on the director’s cut) and D-Box enhancement. The DVD disc will include more extras on SD format, including a Donnie Darko Production Diary with optional commentary by director of photography Steven Poster, 2 featurettes (They Made Me Do It Too: The Cult of Donnie Darko and #1 Fan: A Darkomentary), a storyboard-to-screen featurette and the director’s cut theatrical trailer. Cover art is available below.

Sounds like nothing new, but hopefully a beautiful looking and sounding Bluray worth adding to the collection. It’ll be nice to have both cuts on one disc, as many have spoken out preferring the more ambiguous theatrical version to the director’s cut.

Will The “Chasing Amy X” DVD Live On Blu-Ray?

December 2nd @ 6:19 am | 2 Comments » | Scooped by Ron, Tim Brooks

  • Blu-ray DVD fansite Blu-ray.com reveals that Kevin has continued to enter into discussions with Criterion to put together a release of the great “Chasing Amy” on the new high definition format. Not only would this allow us to have the best-ever copy of the film, but it would give him the chance to add all the planned extra stuff that’s been filmed, edited, and just waiting to be watched. If our memory serves, there was a new documentary filmed, in the tradition of the “Mallrats X” doc, and an outstanding Q&A session with the entire cast at the Arclight in LA which we attended. Here’s what they say:

Writer/director/actor Kevin Smith has sent a proposal to Criterion for a Blu-ray release of his film ‘Chasing Amy’. The filmmaker always had planned for a super 10-year anniversary release (much like the one completed for his earlier films ‘Clerks’ and ‘Mallrat’), but Criterion has stated they refuse to double-dip (history, however, may disagree with that statement). So now he is proposing a Blu-ray release with all the added material, meaning it wouldn’t technically be a double-dip of the DVD release.

This release would have all the bonus material from the original DVD release along with a host of extras not previously seen and (supposedly) exclusive to the Blu-ray release. Its yet to be seen if Criterion goes ahead with such plans, especially since the 10-year Anniversary of the film was last year.

Come on, Criterion! We wanna see this! And we WILL buy it! Take a look at View Askew’s track record on DVD, and it’s easy to see – home releases of these flicks are VERY profitable, and Chasing Amy is sure to be a best seller and a must-have for collector libraries.

View the full article in this very cool new format from Home Media Magazine (be sure and try out their magnifying glass which lets you zoom over the pages). Clicking the graphic will blow it up, too.

Or, you can view our copy above, which we’re nabbing for the News Askew archives. And for the record, we believe Kev’s awesome new TV and Blu-ray player were a gift from PANASONIC, not Paramount.

View Askew NewsBites™ – The Leftovers Edition Pt. I

November 21st @ 6:39 am | No Comments » | Scooped by George Efta, Chris Collins,

  • We’ll be checking out some newsbites old and new this week, as we clean out the mailboxes with some leftovers from the onslaught of “Zack and Miri” news — So, while some of these may date back a bit, it’ll be nice to have some different stuff to read up on, in case you missed some of these articles while we had the major promotional pushes happening…
  • Jay Busbee’s sports blog mentions a familiar locale which we’re THINKING is likely a View Askew reference. Check out the last paragraph and see for yourself.
  • Not only did the Affleck/Damon produced “Project Greenlight” horror flick “Feast” get a CRAZY direct to DVD sequel last month, the original also came to Region 2 DVD for the first time. If you haven’t seen “Feast 2” yet, it’s worth watching just for how ridiculous it pushes the envelope and basic horror conventions. Good fun, both flicks.
  • Hey and while we’re name-dropping on Affleck, who we hear is doing some philanthropoc work in the Congo currently (good on ya, Ben) — A few stories we missed chatted up his joining the cast of the upcoming Mike Judge comedy
“Extract”. Lehigh Valley Live and Rope of Silicon both put Affleck front and center. He’ll join Jason Bateman and what’s looking to be a similarly talented, funny supporting cast along with him. One to watch for.
  • Kevin scores a couple mentions in reviews of that “Spaced” DVD set that Stash West held a signing event for – Like your friendly webmasters here, Kevin also supported this fantastic show, and we HIGHLY recommend renting or purchasing copies of the set, which includes every single episode ever filmed. A true bargain, and an essential part of any fanboy or fangirl’s DVD library. Check out Monsters and Critics and Film for two more reviews of the set (never ran before here at NA) which mention Kevin as well.
  • That’ll put a close to today’s edition of leftovers, but we’ve got more where that came from – See ya next time with more of the ‘bites that have been hanging around the News Askew mailboxes. Happy Friday!
