39. Silent Bob
Sidekick to: Jay

Is it the weed or divine patience that keeps this portly, man-(of-few-words)-servant mellow enough to stand by the lanky, foul-mouthed, and frequently offensive Jay? With heroic dedication and resolve, Bob endures Jay’s verbal abuse (nicknames like ”fatty,” ”lunchbox,” and ”tons of fun”), selflessly (and wordlessly) dispenses advice with a meaningful nod. And — whether dispatching demons or explaining an esoteric film title — Bob can be counted on to save the day. —Erin Richter

Randy (Ethan Suplee) in “My Name Is Earl” deservedly makes the list as well.

  • GQ magazine recently release a one-page article titled “Ewoks Don’t Leave Tips (And Eight Other Things You Need To Know For This Year’s Comic-Con)”. It gives tips to folks who will be attending the big event in San Diego next weekend, arguably the biggest in the world. Check out number FIVE in the scan here, where they urge you to avoid celebrity speakers with KEVIN SMITH being a notable EXCEPTION! Cool!

  • And hey, while we’re hitting you with scans, check this one out from Playboy Magazine – Sorry for the quality, but you should be able to click and make out the text. Just a few quick questions with Kevin regarding Clerks II, nothing new, but new quotes, and great witty answers as always. Enjoy.
  • Ok, so check THIS OUT – Possibly the coolest cake ever, and a VERY cool girlfriend! Scooper “Stephen” sends us this photo and story today:

“My girlfriend and I have a “cake off” each year for our birthdays, kinda trying to “one up” each other each time. I think this year’s entry is gonna be reaaaaal hard to beat, as she based the cake and party around my favorite movies, and the upcoming Clerks 2! I also got the 2 Clerks Posters, which rock ass! THANK YOU SECRET STASH!”

Incredibly cool cake, Stephen. Happy Birthday, and hold onto that one – She’s a keeper!

  • Tickets to BOTH Clerks II shows at Edinburgh sold out in a staggering THREE HOURS! We hope many of you UK readers were able to grab tix, and enjoy the show.
  • Here’s how far the Clerks II press is spreading, folks. Brian and Jeff are interviewed in this week’s print edition of “The Sporting News” (July 21st issue). Here’s a transcript:
SN: A memoerable scene from Clerks is the rooftop hockey scene. Are you hockey fans?

O’Halloran: I’m a New York Rangers fan. I know heartache.

SN: What are your thoughts on the Stanley Cup now residing in NASCAR country?

O’Halloran: It’s kind of weird hearing hockey terminology being spoken in a Southern Accent. And they have, I think, Ric Flair as their mascot, and ever time they get a goal you hear “Woooooo!” It’s just so bizzare.

SN: What’s your most memorable sports moment?

Anderson: I am a huge Broncos fan-I bleed orange-so it’s the Broncos’ Super Bowl. Preferably John Elway’s MVP one. I have a dog named Elway.

SN: Brian, what was it like making out with Jennifer Schwalbach?

O’Halloran: Jennifer plays my fiancee in the movie. It’s not every day that someone asks you to make out with their wife while they’re watching it and filiming it. I didn’t want to have any kind of mistake because the next thing you know, I’m fired and Seth Green is in my place.

SN: The first Clerks was filled with Star Wars references. Your thoughts on Episode III?

Anderson: You would almost think I directed it, I talk about Episode III so much. I’m a fan. I’m not going to sit here and bash on the new Star Wars.

O’Halloran: It was a great animated film.

SN: What do you tell fans who think Kevin sold out by making a sequel?

O’Halloran: Donkey show. If they are fans of Kevin’s, they’ll want to see him do a donkey show.

  • Clerks II has now moved to the TOP of the promotional list that MGM e-mails out. If you’re a member, you’ll see an ad and blurb for the flick. It says:
Clerks II – In theatres July 21, 2006

Never before have so many done so little and been so raucously funny doing it. In ‘Clerks 2,’ New Jersey mini-mart clerks and best friends Dante Hicks (Brian O’Halloran) and Randal Graves (Jeff Anderson) are forced to find new jobs in the fast-food universe – and they’re bringing their in-your-face attitudes, outrageous vulgarities and unbridled love of screwing with the customers with them.
