  • An interesting quote kicks off newsbites today, this from Crave Online’s new interview with Simpsons co-creator Matt Groening:
Crave Online: Kevin Smith wants to do a guest voice. Why haven’t you asked him yet?

Matt Groening: We’ll get him. I can’t believe we haven’t done it yet.

So would Kevin Smith vs. Comic Book Guy be too obvious? How about an episode where Kevin comes to town and opens a “Secret Stash” like comic shop (dual tie-in with the Stash as well) and runs CBG out of business? Give us a call, Matt, we’ll write it!

  • Here’s a couple more shots of Kevin’s panel from last weekend’s New York Comicon, courtesy of Lu. Thanks!
  • And speaking of the Con, here’s a brief piece from MTV pieced together from an interview held there this weekend:
“Green Hornet”: So where does Kevin Smith stand with his heavily hyped “Hornet” adaptation? ” ‘Green Hornet’ is dead,” the director insisted, closing the case on the long-awaited comic flick (see ” ‘Clerks’ DVD Inspires Kevin Smith To Write A Sequel”). Smith said the franchise was something he wanted to do for the “first 10 minutes,” but that he quickly fell out of love with the idea. “If I’m going to [do] a big-budget movie,” the director said, “I’d rather it be on something that I created and not somebody else’s character.” Instead, Smith is turning his attention to two projects that he’ll write and direct: a comedy scheduled to shoot in ‘08 and a horror film he described as “unsettling and disturbing.” Whether he can pull off a no-humor vehicle is a question that Smith doesn’t even have an answer to. “I just think of myself as a guy who makes comedies,” he said, “so it’d be interesting to test the filmmaker theory by making a movie that doesn’t rely on comedy at all.”

We’re stoked about both of these projects, especially with all the secrecy surrounding their content so far. It’s making our jobs tougher, though has this later part of this year looking pretty darn exciting with the back-to-back shoot. Expect a lot of rumors and news in the coming months regarding these two new films.

  • Kevin responds to an angry viewr of his latest Ebert & Roeper appearance ove on his MySpace blog. It’s always amazing how upset people can get! Check out the post right HERE.
  • Kevin scores the #1 spot on the Arizona Daily Star’s list of Top DVD Commentaries. Check out them out here…
1. Kevin Smith and Scott Mosier, “Road House”
Smith and his producer, who provide stellar tracks to DVDs of their own flicks — Smith also popped up with “Donnie Darko” writer/director Richard Kelly for an awesome “Donnie Darko” director’s cut Q&A — both goof on and worship this 1980s cult classic, and their spontaneous dialogue is even funnier than the camped-out Patrick Swayze’s bare-chested onscreen antics. There should be a theatrical rerelease of the film with the commentary turned on.
  • CLEKRS 2 also took “Best DVD Of The Year” honors from JoBlo.com’s recently announced Golden Schmoe Awards.
  • Clerks ranks number 6 in Maxim’s list of “Best Buddy Movies”. Well deserved! We’ll see ya next time, folks, and thanks for stopping by as always.
