  • Another damn fine interview with Kevin appears on iF Magazine’s web site, which focuses on the controversy surrounding Dogma. There’s some really fascinating stuff there, including some of the alternate casting choices for some of the roles…
“For the Azrael role Alec Baldwin was considered. Bill Murray, Bill Macy passed. Albert Brooks was considered. But we never met with anyone about Azrael, because in the back of my mind our schedule kept moving and eventually [Jason] Lee got free and they were like ‘No, he passed.’ But we ended up getting Lee.

Surf over to their website to read part 1 — parts 2 and 3 are on the way. We’ll let ya know when they’re posted.

  • Seems that an editor at Ambercrombie & Fitch’s catalog isn’t a big Smith fan. Check out the angry letter a fan wrote in and the mag’s response:
Dear A&F,
I would usually never argue with you guys, but your article on Kevin Smith in the last issue disturbed me greatly. When I first spotted it, I was overjoyed. My favorite clothing company had agreed that he was the shit. Unfortunately, your editor, a Mr. Savas Abadsidis, had conflicting views on the movie Mallrats. He states that Clerks and Chasing Amy are great and that his new movie Dogma (which by the way was an awesome flick) is great, but that Mallrats is “less than compelling.” This infuriates me. Mallrats is my favorite movie and my question goes out to Savas, What is your fucking damage, shithead? What the hell is wrong with Mallrats? Also, is there any way you could send me Kevin’s address? He is my hero. Plus, I want naked pics of Joey. She’s so hot! Thanks a ton!
Steve, Taylor MI

[Savas replies]

Dear Steve,Get a life, you loser! I too am a huge Kevin Smith fan, but Mallrats is probably the worst movie ever made (Stan Lee cameo notwithstanding). No naked Joey pictures for you, mister.

  • This is an unconfirmed report, but we hear that Jay Mewes is going to appear at the Dragon Con in Atlanta, Georgia. Other guests include Lloyd (The Toxic Avenger) Kaufman and Tom Savini. The Con is held June 29 – July 2.
  • In the new Entertainment Weekly (May 12, 2000 with Russel Crowe on the cover) on page 66 in the television section, there is a bit on the upcoming Kevin Smith interview on the Sundance channel, complete with picture, and a great line: “Only Dogma director Kevin Smith would dare refer to an actor’s process of emoting as ‘artsy fartsy nonsense,’ but that’s exactly why you gotta love the guy.” They give the interview a B+.

  • And finally today, we present a shot of the girls of the “Coyote Ugly”. The flick opens August 4th. Enjoy, fellas.
