• And finally today, a little extra bonus for ya. Something that’s been around for a while, but this is the first transcription (we
  believe) we’ve seen anywhere. The “Brodie Bolts” sign, featured in J&SBSB, hanging in the Stash, has been carefully looked over by UK fan Douglas Fir,
  and, for the first time, here’s the full text of this historic View Askew prop (note the Variety article is written by Jim McLauchlin, Wizard editor and
  J&SBSB cameo guy):

BRODIE BOLTS

Brodie Bruce ends his reign as king of late night when he exclaims “F*** it” and storms off the set of NBC’s Tonight Show. Bruce was under attack from the FCC and Christian Mothers Association for the constant stream of profanity that shocked late night viewers. Jeffrey Macintyre, president of FCC said “This won’t go over well in Oxnard, What’s this kid trying to pull here, you can’t talk that way on T.V.”. Fines in the first month of Bruce’s wild card takeover out weighed his first years salary. Replacing Carson’s trademarked “golf swing” with sophmoric pelvic gyrations, Mr. Bruce won the hearts of males ages 18 to 35. However, Brodie Bruce’s radical departure from traditional Tonight Show booking procedures, the abandonment of pre-interviews, and arcane comic book references are considered too obscure for Mr. and Mrs. Middle America.

Rumors on the set were such that Brodie was constantly prevoking producers and crew members. One crew member recalls “Brodie would ‘stink palm’ network brass and A list guests”. Just two months ago, the notoriously difficult host pressed charges against his assistant and long time friend for allegedly attacking him with pepper spray.

Brodie was first chosen to host the Tonight Show when he was randomly discovered by two network executives while participating in a local game show at a New Jersey mall.

“We decided to replace him with a more personable host” explained NBC V.P. Ralph Meyer.

Mr. Bruce’s publicist could not be reached for comment.

Oh, and hey, when you guys get tired of it hanging in the Stash — I’ll take it for my game room! Alright, wishful thinking, anyway.

So, can anyone clarify. Was Anderson’s “Now You Know” picked up for wider distribution? Some of us saw it at Vulgarthon a few years back, it’d be great
to see that film making it to a larger audience!

• Kevin bought that famous Paulsboro fire helmet from eBay after all, under the moniker “stinkytrinke” which certainly sounded like someone in the know when
  we saw the bid (it’s from a deleted scene of Jersey Girl). Kevin was generous enough to more than double the price he paid for the item to support the
  Paulsboro fire department. Here’s the full story:

• The next wave of View Askew inaction figures for Dogma will likely start to arrive sometime in the May/June timeframe. Watch for more
  details here soon. We’ve been waiting a long time for these puppies, so we’re sure that you are, too.
• A reader of the site wrote to tell us that he sings a song called “Jason Lee: with a silly French accent with his band, Mars Hotel. You
  can listen to it HERE.

• Here’s another work from Page, the girl some of you may remember who drew that awesome picture of all the characters in the Askewniverse a couple years
  back. Here’s her latest.
• Pronounced Boston Red Sox fan Ben Affleck hosted the BoSox Roast, similar to what they do for Friar’s Club members, he made jokes about
  David Ortiz’s jewelry and Kevin Millar’s “cowboy up” phrase used often last year. And plenty of the players gave him a bunch of lighthearted J-Lo jokes. He
  also attended Friday’s game against the Baltimore Orioles.
• First Look Media has changed the name of Joey Lauren Adams’ new film, “A Promise Kept”, to “The Gunman” and will be releasing it in the
  US in the rental and retail stores on June 15th. The official website is www.apromisekeptmovie.com. Joey plays a female detective given the undesirable
  job of hunting down a vigilante who is protecting children. The movie also stars Sean Patrick Flanery, Jeff Speakman and Mimi Rogers. It will be playing
  at the Fort Myers Film Fest on Saturday, May 1st, at 6pm.
• John Pierson, who as you know is involved with a project with Kevin & Scott this year (and has been a longtime View Askew supporter), has planned a special
  event with The Austin Film Society. The guru of indie success, John is the original champion of filmmakers like Spike Lee, Michael Moore, and Kevin Smith.
  He is the creator of Split Screen, which ran on IFC for four years, and author of SPIKE, MIKE, SLACKERS & DYKES and the newly released SPIKE MIKE
  RELOADED. A preview of the upcoming “Best of Split Screen” DVD, the screening lineup will feature eight segments from eight different shows including
  three that have special Texas meaning! You won’t want to miss highlights like “Chris Walken’s Cooking Show” or “The Man Inside Godzilla.” The final
  segment will reveal a peek at his secret life showing free movies in the Fijian bush. Afterwards, John will share his experiences and what he’s learned
  over decades of involvement with feature filmmaking and cable television. John also hopes to rally support to start up a locally produced film series for
  PBS.

The event takes place on Friday, April 30th at 8:30 PM at UT Austin, Engineering building (RLM), room 4.102. Q&A with John Pierson to follow screenings.
Free admission for Austin Film Society members with current membership cards or for new members joining before event. Seating will be limited and held
until 8:15. RSVP by email to Christian@austinfilm.org. Free admission for RTF students. Must provide current school ID at door.

• That puts the wraps on another one! Oh, one last thing: We found out that the popup image logic didn’t work on Macintosh machines. So,
  we’re back to the old-fashioned way for the time being with images, but hope to find a way to use the newer technology and satisfy all browsers. Stay

• Last night, the Arclight theater came alive when Clerks screened before a sold-out crowd, followed by a star-studded Q&A session featuring the biggest Clerks cast reunion EVER. In attendance were Kevin Smith, Jay Mewes, Scott Mosier, Brian O’Halloran, Jeff Anderson, Marilyn Ghigliotti, and Dave Klein. We haven’t received many reports from the Arclight screening last night, so if anyone’s got something they’d like to offer up of interest, feel free to toss it into the TalkBacks here or send it on to us.

One bit of news that was confirmed regarding the disc: They are indeed going to animate the scene that appeared in the Clerks: The Lost Scene comic book (where Randal knocks over Julie Dwyer’s casket in the funeral home). Jeff Anderson and Brian O’Halloran were scheduled to record the voice work for said scene TODAY. On the disc, you’ll be able to watch the scene on its own or even integrate it into the film as you watch it! Worth the disc price alone, we gotta say. And who knows what other coolness is in store for the disc? We can only imagine that it’ll be the BIGGEST, BEST View Askew DVD to hit shelves thus far. More as we hear it.

• The Northern Light, University of Alaska Anchroage’s student newspaper, ran a story about Kevin coming to do the Q&A thing up there.

• Tom, a very lucky scooper who works at a radio station, had the chance to meet Alanis and see a very intimate performance from God herself yesterday. She’s been making the rounds of a select few radio stations across the country, and stopped by yesterday at WZPL radio in Indianapolis to perform 2 songs for about 20 lucky people who were gathered at the station.
• On Saturday night, a two-man acoustic cover band played at Mackey’s Pub in Keansburg, NJ under the name “Gil Hicks.” They covered bands such as Alice in Chains, Stone Temple Pilots, Nirvana, Jimi Hendrix, A Perfect Circle, Radiohead, and many others. Always great to see bands taking on Askew-related monikers!

• Prior to Jersey Girl’s opening weekend, Variety ran a “View Askew Special Edition”, which featured a bunch of articles and thank-you messages to Kevin and crew for 10 years of movie magic. Since we don’t believe many of you had the chance to pick up the issue, or subscribe, we’re going to start a new series here at the site, where we feature scans of those ads and stories. Hope you enjoy it.

• Here’s an interesting one — Dark Horizons reports a rumor that, due to his non-signing for a third Scooby
  sequel, that Freddie Prinze might be replaced in the role by…Marc Blucas!??! Blucas, as you may recall, played the Fred doppleganger in Jay & Silent
  Bob Strike Back. Will art imitate life? Stranger things have happened.
• Congrats to Dogma alum Janeane Garofalo, for being named the 99th greatest stand up of all time by Comedy Central.
• That’s actually all we got for today — By the way, Kill Bill 2 is remarkable — Such a drastic difference from the first film, but full
  of that Tarantino magic that just makes every word and every scene a gem. Thanks to our pals Kevin and Steve for setting us up with the early screening.
  Waiting this week would have been TOUGH! If you’re a Tarantino fan, and love those long anticipatory calms before the inevitable storm he specializes in,
