Final Two “A Better Place” SE DVD Screens!

May 12th @ 4:49 pm | No Comments » | Scooped by Vincent Pereira

  • Vincent was kind enough to hook us up with the final two screenshots from the “A Better Place” DVD, which reveal some cool stuff about the release. First of all, the deleted scenes not only have scene by scene access (thankfully), but also a very nice menu system for getting around to re-watch your favorites. Even cooler, they’ve packed the disc with even more by adding a comparison of the original sound mix to the new Skywalker 5.1 sound mix. You won’t believe the difference that a remix can make. Anyway, check out the screens, and don’t forget to order your disc from the Stash to get all the signatures and film clipping! Street date is June 19th.

May 6th @ 8:51 pm | No Comments » | Scooped by Vincent Pereira

  • Thanks to Vincent, we’re happy to present 4 menu screens from the upcoming Synapse DVD release of “A Better Place: Special Edition”. Note: On the final version, “Cassese” and “Skywalker” will be spelled correctly. Click the thumbnails above for a better look at how the chapter selections, special features, introductions and more are organized. It’s nice to see that the deleted scenes will indeed be viewable both with and without a commentary track, a feature often lacking from this area of most discs. Enjoy, and pick up your copy on or preorder before June 19th!

A Better Place & Dogma SE DVD Updates!

January 15th @ 8:33 pm | No Comments » | Scooped by Vincent Pereira

  • Well, one of the two anyway….Sadly, we’re still unable to report anything on the Dogma Special Edition DVD. We’re waiting for any info but they’re keeping it quiet for the time being. Basically, we’re still assuming there’s some content issues (similar to those issues a while back that they’d found a way around) and that the studio is working with those involved with the disc to come up with a solution. While this again seems rough, it’s a good sign. Whatever the problem is, the delay means that they’re trying to get the best product out there to the fans, rather than just settling for something inferior.

Speaking of which, the A Better Place DVD could have been done a while ago too, if Vincent hadn’t insisted on making this thing PERFECT. And while we know a lot of you have orders in all over the place, the good news from Vincent himself is that the final blocks are being put into place. Here’s Vincent:

As for A BETTER PLACE, the deleted scenes are finally together and the commentary recorded and Don May is heading out to Los Angeles in a week to finish work on this and a few more of his titles. That means, all elements will be handed to the authoring facility and work on the screens, navigation, compression, etc., will begin. It’ll take them 2-3 weeks to do this and get us a check disc, and after we approve that, a few more weeks to press the discs, so this one is just about ready to go. When we actually have the check discs in hand and approve them, we’ll announce the firm, final date, but look for it to be late-February.

There ya go, folks. Stay tuned for more big DVD news here soon. Clerks Uncensored is still on track and we expect to see the two mentioned in the headline in the next couple of months. Keep those spots on your DVD shelves open.

Lions Gate Acquires VULGAR Distribution Rights!

September 15th @ 11:38 am | No Comments » | Scooped by Lions Gate Films & Kevin Smith

  • We are VERY PLEASED to report that Lions Gate Films has acquired theatrical distribution rights to Bryan Johnson’s View Askew Produced “VULGAR”. The film made its debut, as you know, at the Toronto Film Festival this year, and was filmed a couple of years ago. Kevin & Scott helped produce the flick, which is being described as a VERY disturbing one, as Kevin himself has said, “Think of this movie as the unholy product of ‘Blue Velvet’ after having been raped by ‘Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2′.” Kevin dropped by the board upon his return from Toronto with the big news, but left the distributor out of it, since it’ll be all over the place in Variety soon, we’re sure. However, Lions Gate was kind enough to contact us directly, as they’re very pleased to have acquired the film and wanted to let everyone know ASAP. Here’s Kevin:
Just Got Back From Toronto…

A very… VERY… successful trip. Great screenings, great party, and a great conclusion to the whole affair.

We sold the film.

Now, just WHO we sold the film to you’ll read about in Monday’s trades or somewhere online, but I thought I’d let you guys know now, before the news broke.

Needless to say, we’re all ecstatic here. I could go on, but it’s Bryan’s flick and his experience, and I should let him fill you all in on the details when he gets back.

Jen and Malcolm threw one helluva bash, and damn, if that wife of mine wasn’t the most gorgeous creature on two legs in the room that night (or every night, for that matter). Malcolm looked nice too.It was a real family affair up north this week, with me and the Missus, Malcolm and Matt (Gissing, of ‘Drawing Flies’ fame), Scooter and Monica, Vincent and Brendan, Bry’s lady Jill and Bryan’s parents and brothers, and of course, Bryan himself. And none of us would’ve been there, had it not been for Steve Gravestock (sp?), the cat with vision enough to program the flick in the fest.

And man – does it get any better than that NY Post piece? Fuck!

So how about a big ’round of applause for Bryan? He made a helluva flick, and it’s found a home beyond our own. I’m proud of our boy, and though I’m sad we’ll be losing a merchandise mailroom manager, I’m happy to be gaining a peer.

HUGE congratulations to Bryan Johnson on the big achievement, it’s quite an honor to have any film sold for distribution, let alone your FIRST one, so we’re really happy for the guy. Congrats also to Kev, Scott, and the whole press machine that put things together in Toronto and helped to get the job done. It’s a very happy day for View Askew Productions!

Long-Awaited “Vulgar” Information & Pics!

August 17th @ 11:27 pm | No Comments » | Scooped by Upcoming Movies & Gramp

  • After scant reports on the flick, we’ve got some information on Bryan Johnson’s “Vulgar”, which we hear will premiere at the Toronto Film Festival next month before it’s shown at Vulgarthon 2000 in Red Bank. Thanks to Upcomingmovies.Com, we’ve got a premise for the film from Johnson himself, as well as some other info.

In addition to that, we’ve got some exclusive behind-the-scenes shots from the set, taken by Gramp quite a while ago. They’re not overly revealing, but if you just wanted to see some set photos, there ya go. Gramp promises more coolness, including a shot of O’Halloran in makeup, if he can get the scanner up and running.

Watch this site for more Vulgar news as it happens!

A Better Place DVD Moves To This Fall…

July 26th @ 9:46 pm | No Comments » | Scooped by BankyE37

  • You’ve heard the rumblings, and from talking to Vincent as well as others, along with the website DVD Express now moving the release date, it looks like Pereira’s “A Better Place” jam-packed special edition DVD will be out this Fall. A release date of October 31, 2000 is now being predicted, but that’s just speculation. Vincent has said that the new remix makes ABP “sound like a [David] Lynch film”, so we’re certainly looking forward to all the great stuff that’s in store. As with all View Askew productions, sit tight, it’ll be well worth the wait!

Details On The Upcoming A Better Place DVD!

April 27th @ 12:00 am | No Comments » | Scooped by Brad & Chris

  • We chatted with Vincent Pereira briefly today about the “A Better Place” Special Edition DVD that’s coming soon. Seems that the disc is now scheduled to arrive on JULY 22nd, as Vincent has hooked up with some folks from Skywalker sound and is getting the final plans in place. He’s heading up to New York this weekend to lay down a bunch of the soundtrack, and then it won’t be long before he’s off to the Ranch to supervise the brand new Dolby Digital 5.1 mix. It’s gonna be a great disc. We’ll have an exclusive first look of all the goodies on this thing soon.
