• Yesterday’s IMDB poll yet again had a View Askew reference (must be a lot of fans over there). This one asked “Which movie had the best fortune-teller scene?” Mallrats won the poll handily with 32.8%.
• Hot off his J&SBSB appearance, Jason Biggs is to join Kathleen Turner and Alicia Silverstone in the Broadway production of The Graduate. Biggs will play Benjamin Braddock, Dustin Hoffman’s role in the film version. Turner will play Mrs. Robinson, and Silverstone will play her daughter. Turner recently played the same role in London’s West End. The show is expected to open in April, reports www.hollywoodreporter.com.
• Some small references to her previous acting role in Dogma appear in this new article on Alanis’s new album and her role as producer.

• Here’s a project from a fan’s graphic design class…A fictional menu for a View Askew diner. It’s a creative little design, all typos aside. Check out the scans. A lot of the ideas came from other fans on the message boards and talkbacks here at the site.

• Finally today, some scans. In the latest issue of EGM (Electronic Gaming Monthly) they ran a review for the new Capcom game Devil May Cry. In this game, the main character’s name is Dante so in a side bar of the review, they ran a history of the name “Dante”. They indeed mention Dante Hicks from Clerks. Click the scan for a look.

• Kevin stopped by the WWWBoard quickly just before leaving California with some really big news including : a video release date for J&SBSB, Vulgarthon 2002, and the new flick. Check it out!

• Green Arrow #8 (”Quiver Chapter Eight: When Ollie Met Ollie…”) reviews are starting to show up, and The 4th Rail’s got a couple of them. Sounds like #8’s got some BIG surprises in store, and is a key book in the saga. The first review gives the book a 6/10, the second, an 8/10.
• A November 30th J&SBSB release date has been confirmed for Ireland (same as the UK date). You can find a page on the flick and details HERE.
• Jay and Silent Bob dipped 40% to $870,347, ranking #16 for the weekend. The 31-day total stands at $29,235,953.The charts are located HERE and HERE.

• It’s not often we’ll plug an ebay auction, but this one’s damn funny – Someone has turned Homer and Lenny of The Simpsons into Jay & Silent Bob, by making some loving changes to the action figures. Check these guys out HERE.
• Following on from their screening of Clerks, the New Zealand television network TV4 will be screening Mallrats on Monday, October 1st. The J&SBSB trailer is now screening on some New Zealand big screens in front of Tomb Raider.

• Check out this cool fan creation, folks…The Brodie Action Figure! Alas, this is the only one in existence, or we’d be lining up to buy ‘em. Brodie was created from WWF wrestling action figure parts, a lot of sand paper, clay, paint, and hard work. A very cool job indeed.
• The new episode of Brian Lynch’s “Angry Naked Pat” cartoon is now up at www.campchaos.com. Check it out.

• Askew vets Salma Hayek and Chris Rock were spotted answering phones and taking part in Friday’s historical telethon to benefit victims of the attacks.
• In Dallas, the Studio Movie Grill has started running a program called “Movies that go Better with Beer”, which is their midnight showing of some movies that have been out of theaters for a while. The first movie they did last weekend was Chasing Amy and this weekend is Clerks. Beforehand, they do Kevin trivia and give out free tickets and the like for correct answers. We hear crowds have been great, so it’s something definitely worth checking out if you’re in the area.
• “Because I Got High” by Afroman is now the 3rd most requested video on the “Dag Top 5” on TMF in Holland. TMF (The Music Factory) is the Dutch equivalent of MTV. The “Dag Top 5” (daily top 5) runs Monday to Thursday – Folks can vote their top 5 favorite videos on. Note: We’ll probably stop covering Afroman stuff from now on, unless it relates directly back to the flick.

• Well, here’s some big, cool news out of the blue. Yesterday, Kevin revealed that all of his college appearances this year will be chronicled on a new Columbia/Tristar DVD. Those of you who have seen Kevin’s appearances know how they work, but this gives those of you a chance who can’t make any a first-hand look. Kevin entertains the crowd with marathon Q&A sessions, ranging in topics from Clerks to Jay & Bob to everything in between. Usually, Kevin’s not afraid to take on past actors, producers, and companies he’s worked with, though we’re not sure if this type of stuff will make it onto the disc, you can be sure that it’ll be another must-have for your collection. Here’s Kevin:

• Comics Continuum has one again posted a preview of next week’s Green Arrow, issue #8. Looks like another winner! You can check that out right HERE. Surf towards the bottom of the page for the story and their exclusive full color pages from the book.
• Everyone in the UK can now see the Afroman “Because I Got High” video on the Kiss Channel. That’s station number 450 on Sky Digital. It’s one of those interactive jukebox channels, so if you wanna see it, just phone it in. The video selection is number 672.
• A small reference to J&SBSB appeared at the Top Five website recently, in the #5 position.
• The Clerks screening we reported happening in Poughkeepsie has been postponed until the 28th of September. If you planned to go today, you’ll hafta change your schedule.
• Here’s a report we got from a German fan on a new flick that sounds quite familiar, as well as a few other things:

In Germany the Movie “Lammbock – Alles in Handarbeit” directed by Christian Zübert is out. The Film is about two Stoners named Kai (Moritz Bleibtreu from Lola Rennt) and Achim (Julian Weigend) who sell Weed via a Pizza Parlour. Kai is the loudmouth one, who constantly holds a speech about Pop Culture. Achim is the one, who wants to go to college and wants to get away from Selling Weed for the rest of his live. Problems occur as his Ex-Girlfriend shows up, and Achim has to choose between his Girlfriend and his Ex-Girlfriend.

Sounds a bit like Clerks?

Yes, the film is a lot like Clerks. Even the Dialogue seems like Kevin Smith had written it. Even two Stoners, who are dressed like Jay & Silent Bob, appear, hanging around the Pizza Parlour all the time and cursing the whole movie.

I saw it two times in Cinema and can highly recommend it. A very funny film, with very good Dialogue. Maybe it will come out in the U.S. Then you have to see it. I think even Kevin will like it.

I E-Mailed Simon the Host of the German Movie Show “Zelluloid” from the TV Channel Viva 2 yesterday and asked him if he’s a fan of Kevin Smith’s work and if he will promote the new movie in his show. He mailed me back and answered me, that he hadn’t seen all of Kevin’s Work yet, but will watch the rest of the movies and then air a huge Feature about “Kevin and J&SBSB” in his show. Sounds really cool.

“Zelluloid” is in my opinion the best Show about movies in German TV. They show you the newest Trailers from the Internet, and are discussing Cult Classics, and even Show Splatter Scenes from Horror Movies in the afternoon. They also do cool Specials about movies and companies like Troma.

The Stars from American Pie 2 (Shannon Elizabeth, Jason Biggs, Mena Suvari and Sean William Scott) showed up during the Show “Interaktiv” on Viva, on last weeks Tuesday (some minutes before the WTC attack). They talked a lot about AP2 and Shannon mentioned that Jason, Sean, and she will appear in the Movie “J&SBSB”.But the Damn Translator translated the movie as “Jay & Silent Bong”. Very funny.

• Things are calming down here at News Askew, for a variety of reasons we suppose, of course because of the terrible tragic events here in the United States last week, things have been very silent, and of course now that the film is nearing the end of its North American box office run, we’ll shift back into low gear here for a few months as we await the next project.
