Release Date Of J&SBSB Bumped Up To August 22nd???

July 15th, 2001 @ 1:11 pm | No Comments » | Scooped by Janie, Joshua, Schulz, Jim Scampoli & Walrus

  • The Upcoming Movies website broke this potentially BIG scoop, and says they’ve now confirmed it with Exhibitors Relations, so it does indeed seem that Miramax has bumped Jay & Silent Bob Strike Back up two days, from August 24th to August 22nd, a Wednesday! We realize this was confusing as we didn’t have the announcement sooner, but we had not received information from Miramax, Dimension, or anyone on this, still haven’t actually, but feel it’s best to run this story now before it gets too confusing. Keep in mind nothing official has still come into this website, but the Upcoming Movies site has always proved reliable, so we’ll hope this one’s true. Stay tuned for more solid info on this as we can confirm it.

Greg also tells us that, according to his website, Jay & Silent Bob Strike Back is the third most anticipated this summer, behind Jusassic Park III and Planet of the Apes. Jurassic’s really not that good, either. So, after this month’s releases, it looks like J&SBSB is set to run away with a lot of business, at least according to those polled.

  • If you want to see a slightly higher quality version of the J&SBSB theatrical trailer, a 300k stream was located and replaced, better than the old 100k stream we had before. The filesize is a bit larger, but audio and video quality are better. Still not the perfect Quicktime we’re hoping for, but hopefully that’s on the way.
  • The Toronto Star recently ran an article on Brian O’Halloran regarding the filming going on up there for the indie production “Drop Dead Roses”, in which a lot of View Askew stuff is discussed (though some of it seems somewhat uninformed). They speak with Brian who goes through the new film and lots of stuff from the past as well. Most interestingly, it again mentions the Clerks cartoon feature length R-rated film as a future project. Certainly seems like that one might be next on the slate. Check it all out HERE.
  • MGM has set a 10/2 street date for the recent Sigourney Weaver and Jennifer “Love” Hewitt comedy Heartbreakers, which features Jason Lee as well. Most of you probably skipped this one theatrically, so now’s your chance to check it out at home.
  • This week’s Starz Movies News will have Shannon Elizabeth from the Jay and Silent Bob junket talking about “13 Ghosts” and the week after that they’ll have Jason Lee talking up “Vanilla Sky.” The Dogma DVD gets a mention in their monthly DVD run down, which should air in the next couple of weeks as well. You can catch Starz! Movie News during various times throughout the week on the channel.
  • We mentioned this before, but it seems a lot of folks missed it…IGN has run the story again with more details so here ya go: Clerks: Uncensored has been nominated for a “DVD Discus Award for Creative Excellence” for “Best Use and Integration of Web Content” … here are the other nominees:
Best Use and Integration of Web Content

Lawrence of Arabia, Columbia TriStar/Mirage Productions/InterActual

Frequency, New Line Home Video/The Content Project/Organa West/ScriptCruncher.com/InterActual

Gladiator, DreamWorks/InterActual

Clerks Uncensored, Miramax/1K Studios/InterActual

New J&SBSB Review!

July 13th, 2001 @ 7:27 pm | No Comments » | Scooped by JoBlo

  • A nice new, very positive review of Jay & Silent Bob Strike Back is now up at the JoBlo website. The review features a lot of spoilers, but they’ve been carefuly hidden from those who’d rather not see them, and a BIG discourse at the end on what is and isn’t in the film. Again, spoilers are all hidden, so you can safely surf over to check it out. Here’s a preview:
Unlike Smith’s previous two films (CHASING AMY and DOGMA) this film isn’t really about much of anything but I think Smith intended it that way. Different than either of those films, J&SBSB is the bastard child of MALLRATS and CLERKS and its silly antics make you forget its brainier siblings. If it must be about something, it’s about the internet and how the advent of this medium has changed our lives. This film is primarily a discourse on the events that took place while DOGMA was being filmed. An early draft of that script was leaked on the web and once the Catholic League got their hands on it, they had a new whipping boy. Then the posts came – Violent posts defaming Smith and his character for making such a “blasphemous” film. As Banky (Jason Lee) says in the film, the internet was created and exists solely for the anonymous slander of others. In J&SBSB Smith finally gets to vent his frustration. And vent he does.

Thanks to JoBlo and Dark Horizons for the news.

“A Better Place” NEW Check Discs Arrive!

July 13th, 2001 @ 7:25 pm | No Comments » | Scooped by Allan Sears

  • This news from Vincent is quite promising…Seems he has already received new check discs for “A Better Place” and that the BEEP bug is gone. Here’s Vincent with the full story:
Well, I just recieved a new batch of “corrected” check discs, MUCH earlier than I expected to (I didn’t think I’d get these for at least another week to two weeks). Looking at one now, and so far so good- those strange “beeps” seem to have been elliminated. It’ll take a couple days to go through the ENTIRE DVD with a fine-toothed comb on several players to see if there are problems, but it’s looking good thus far.Depending on turn-around time at the pressing plant, look for it to street on either August 14th or August 21st (JUST in time for JAY & SILENT BOB STRIKE BACK).

You heard it, folks, it’ll be here in August! Our review of the disc is still being prepped (this turned into the week from hell as far as busy goes)…But it should whet your appetites until you have the flick in your hands. Order it now, you won’t be sorry!

Be sure and give this stuff a read, it’s all quite good and a LOT of work certainly went into transcribing it all for the web. Enjoy!

Jennifer Smith Hits The Big Screen!

July 13th, 2001 @ 7:24 pm | No Comments » | Scooped by Brad & Chris

  • As a followup to the “Bob Smith” pic we posted yesterday, here’s the article that goes with it, from Fashion Wire Daily. It’s a very kind article all about Jennifer Smith and her first film role in Jay & Silent Bob Strike Back! We’ve got it all for ya right here:
The Tale of the Filmmaker’s Wife

Jennifer Smith Hits the Big Screen
By Elizabeth Snead
Fashion Wire Daily LA July 10, 2001 – Imagine meeting your favorite filmmaker. He falls head over heels in love with you, marries you at Skywalker Ranch – and even casts you in his latest Miramax movie!

Sounds like a fantasy, right? Well, it’s Jennifer Schwalbach Smith’s reality. The tall, auburn-haired beauty makes her screen debut in husband Kevin Smith’s new film Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back, opening Aug 24. Mrs. Smith met the award-winning director of Clerks and Mallrats in ‘98 when she interviewed him in LA for USA Today. And, as the interview ended, their love affair began. “He asked me to stay and hang out with him,” Smith recalls. “Three hours later, we were madly in love.”

A week later, their first “real date” was to the Independent Spirit Awards in Santa Monica, CA, where her new beau received a Best Screenplay award for Chasing Amy. A month later, she quit her job and left LA for a life in Redbank, New Jersey, the site of Kevin’s cult comic store. The couple became engaged and bought two Irish setters, Mulder and Scully.

Smith was shooting Dogma, so their house was filled with stars like Matt Damon, Ben Affleck, Chris Rock and Alanis Morrissette. The couple traveled together to Cannes and the Sundance film festivals, and finally married in July ‘99 at Skywalker Ranch. “It was the most wonderful day of my life,” recalls the UCLA political science grad, who grew up in Coral Springs, FL. “I didn’t put much stock in marriage, but for some reason, it changed everything and the relationship got even better than it was.”

The happy couple have a baby daughter, Harley Quinn, 2 (named for a Batman character), who looks so much like her doting dad that she plays him as an infant in the opening scenes of Strikes Back, which also stars Seann William Scott, Mark Hamill, Will Ferrell, Jason Lee, Ben Affleck, George Carlin, Carrie Fisher, and Matt Damon.

Jennifer, 30, plays diamond thief Missy, one of the movie’s “Anti-Charlie’s Angels” crew, which includes Ali Larter, Eliza Dushku and Shannon Elizabeth. Knowing she’d be strutting her stuff onscreen next to these younger babes, the new mom worked out (”like a mad person!”) three hours a day, lifting weights, doing yoga and running with a personal trainer. “I even went to Canyon Ranch,” she confesses.

Her first day on the set, Jennifer was sewn into a skin-tight black catsuit. “It was like a skin-tight nylon sock! It felt like [I was] naked! Plus, I had the worst case of stomach flu in my life, and every time I had to go to the bathroom, they had to rip open the suit and then stitch me back up again!” But the experience, while embarrassing, was liberating. “Where else do you get to wear pony tails and six-inch spike boots, do ninja fighting and shoot a gun?” Smith asks. “It was such fun to play a bad girl and be able to do things and say things I would never say – and make a complete fool out of myself.”

As well as being bad, Smith also produced and co-directed the film’s behind-the-scenes documentary, conducting interviews with the cast and crew. “We got so much great stuff with all the people – like Matt, Ben and Alanis – who are supportive of him, that I’m planning a two-hour documentary for the festival circuit as a special gift for Kevin,” she says. “I don’t think he knows how much all his friends love him.”

  • Looks like we have an AUSTRALIAN RELEASE DATE for Jay & Silent Bob Strike Back! The Hoyt’s webpage has the flick listed for November 29th. A good sign for a big overseas release of the film. No word on other countries just yet, but we’ll keep you posted.
  • A recent article at Cinescape suggesting a new comic books rating system (in jest, we’re sure) suggests giving Kevin’s books their very own rating. Check it out:
SB (SILENT BOB)–15: This issue contains a story written by “slacker” favorite Kevin Smith. While still mastering the art of writing for comics, the author’s adventures are prone to “talking head” panels filled with less action and more dialogue/captions. Silent, he is not.

You can read it all HERE.

  • Prince has cancelled his planned tour that begun with Kev’s documentary of the Paisley Park celebration. We assume Kevin was just brought in for that day, and have no idea if this cancellation will also cancel any release of the stuff Kev filmed. We’ll let ya know.

Later Today…
