New J&SBSB Internet Trailer DELAYED UNTIL TUESDAY!

June 18th, 2001 @ 10:34 pm | No Comments » | Scooped by Ming Chen

  • Sorry folks, word’s come down from the top that the trailer is undergoing some last minute tweaks and conversions, thus, it will be DELAYED until tomorrow at some point. No go-live time is currently planned, it could show up earlier in the day, or later at night. We CAN tell you that the new piece will run about 85 seconds in length, be 16 megs in size for the best quality copy, and is being encoded at 24 frames per second. You’ll want to nab yourself the latest version of Quicktime to get geared up for it. We apologize for those of you who waited up for this, we got the news up as soon as we could. Don’t shoot the messenger! We’ll keep ya posted on further updates, and hopefully have an official go-live time on the new trailer for ya ASAP tomorrow. Look below, though, as we’ve got another new trailer to tide ya over until then…

“A Better Place” Trailer Online!

June 18th, 2001 @ 10:33 pm | No Comments » | Scooped by Vincent Pereira

  • Well, here’s a pleasant surprise! Vincent’s got a brand new trailer cut for “A Better Place” online in two QuickTime versions, a lower and higher resolution. We of course recommend the higher resolution copy if you’ve got the bandwidth. The trailer runs about 1 minute and 44 seconds, and features some memorable dialogue and striking scenes from the film. It’s cut together quite well and will have you eagerly anticipating the DVD release next month. You can download copies over at the Film 411 site or local mirrored copies right HERE at News Askew. Enjoy!

Will Ferrell J&SBSB Interview & Pics At AICN…

June 18th, 2001 @ 4:04 pm | No Comments » | Scooped by Stephen Humphrey

  • You can catch another in Mysterio’s series of Jay & Silent Bob Strike Back cast interviews at AICN. In this one, Will speaks about working with Kevin, his career, Saturday Night Live, and lots more craziness. Here’s a taste:
“Kevin seems to allow you the opportunity to improv, which he’s been know not to do.”

Oh really? I didn’t know that.

Do you discuss certain lines and bits you’d like to try beforehand, or do you just surprise him when the cameras roll?”

Um… yes and no. Yeah, we’ve had both kinds of situations. Usually if I have an idea I’ll be like, “hey, what if we changed it up this way?” And he’s be like, “Oh, ok. Let’s try that.” And then sometimes I’ll just do it on my own and to be frank, he’s not very happy with it. He’ll banish me for an hour and a half. He’ll put me in a time out. I’ll have to sit in this special solitary confinement box on the set…

“Oh yeah! I’ve seen that box!”

Yeah, yeah… It’s a BIG box. You don’t want to be there at all. It’s very hot in there. They pump in the heat. So I try to pick and choose my spots.

“Would it be fair to say that you and Kevin share the same sense of humor?”

Absolutely. We pretty much see eye to eye in this character. Also, he told me he wrote it with me in mind in terms of my delivery and that sort of thing. It’s material that’s right up my alley, so yeah, we totally share the same sense of humor.

You can find plenty of pics (of Will performing a wire stunt) and a TON of Q&A in the full piece over at AICN.

  • Two more reviews of the Dogma Special Edition DVD are online…One linked at Dark Horizons and another at DVD Authority. Both reviews give the disc some very positive marks. One more week until this thing can finally get in the hands of all the fans. Sit tight, folks!
  • One for the ladies: In the July issue of Cosmo, Seann William Scott is “Hunk of the Month.” There is a one-page interview and a little mention of the fact that he will be in JASBSB.
  • Due to substantial changes in content, orders for the September 2001 issue of High Times have been cancelled. The View Asked related contents that were solicited to appear in that issue – a Kevin Smith interview & a three-page primer to his Jay & Silent Bob/Bluntman & Chronic comics, are scheduled to now appear in their October 2001 issue.
  • Finally today, in case ya didn’t notice, it looks like the Stroke 9 single is listing the full Jay & Silent Bob Strike Back soundtrack as having an August 14th release date, 10 days before the flick opens nationwide. We’ll keep ya posted on the artists and tracks involved as word comes in. It’d be cool if they slip some dialogue from the film in there as well, as done on the Clerks and Mallrats discs from way back. Catch ya later, folks, hopefully tonight with a new internet exclusive trailer!

Commentary & Stuff…

  • Hey folks, welcome to another week. There’s a lot a-brewin’ this morning, though the work day has started, so a full update will hafta wait until later. Then, we’ll have news for ya on the new Will Ferrell interview over at AICN, yet another Dogma SE DVD review, and more. Also, word has it that the website that claimed that the DVD will be RCE has been unreliable in the past, so we are STILL not sure about the new DVD having RCE protection on it. Sorry for all the confusion there.

A lot of you are also wondering about the new trailer, no doubt. Well, we haven’t heard otherwise since Kevin’s announcement, so we assume the new trailer will still debut on the web sometime TONIGHT. Hopefully we’ll get a confirmation on this for you later today.

And finally, it’s my (Brad) birthday today, I’m now 28, creeping ever closer to 30…Sheesh. They’re coming faster and faster these days. If anyone’s recently won the lottery or something, you can send me one of these as a present. Wow. Now THAT’S a remote.

Just one story so far for today with the last of the Jay & Bob set pics, but we’ll be back with more later:

Last 2 Set Pics From J&SBSB

June 18th, 2001 @ 7:27 am | No Comments » | Scooped by Brad & Chris

Well folks, here’s the last two pics we’ve got from the on-set Jay & Silent Bob Strike Back collection. It’s been a good run, and we thank Kevin Smith, Scott Mosier, and Jamie Anderson for providing us with so many exclusive, revealing scans to debut here. Hope you’ve enjoyed them all as much as we’ve enjoyed posting them up. Our last two shots are a nice exterior and a final shot of Jay, appropriately waving farewell (or is that hello?). You can see the entire archive over at our ever-increasing Scooping The Monkey site, the biggest place on the web to find out anything and everything about the new flick. Until then, enjoy these last 2, and we’ll see you back here with more exclusives soon. Who knows, maybe the gang will dig up a few more pics for us if anything else turns up!

Commentary…

  • Well after a few relatively quiet days, with Kevin doing the Prince stuff, things should start to pick up again real soon. Expect news on cut stuff, MPAA ratings, press screeings, and more to start rolling in now that Jay & Bob are out of the test process. Today we’ve got a variety of other stuff, regarding some minor stories opping up online, that Stroke 9 Single, spoiler reviews, and more. Tomorrow we’ll also have what we believe are the final two set pics from J&SBSB. Our plan was to throw 3 new ones up until release, but it looks like the well dried up on us…Still, it was a good run! Remember, in case ya missed any of them, they’re ALL located at Scooping The Monkey in one simple place.

Let’s take a look at what we’ve got for ya today:

More SPOILER FILLED Reviews of J&SBSB…

June 17th, 2001 @ 9:55 pm | No Comments » | Scooped by Benjamin, Deren, Stephen Humphrey & Ian Bonds

  • Yet another spoiler-filled review from the Arizona test screening has popped up over at AICN, check out a non-spoiler snippet:
While everything was plenty funny, it also felt as though Kevin took all the most crowd-pleasing aspects of his film (vulgar humor, references, catchphrases and Jay/Silent Bob) and subtracted the realistic dialogue and storylines from theother films. Well, maybe not Mallrats, which had that Hughesian charm that Kevin wanted it too. Maybe that’s why I felt J&SBSB is more akin to Mallrats than any other film in the series. Like my brother-in-law said when the flick was over, “it was like a typical Kevin Smith film, just not as cerebral.” Not that there’s anything wrong with that. I really liked it and felt that the flick was Kevin Smith’s version of a mindless comedy/parody, a la Scary Movie/Airplane, just like the Clerks cartoon series was his version of The Simpsons and Mallrats was his version of Sixteen Candles or Pretty in Pink.

Read the whole thing if you must (it’s jam-packed with some major spoilers) over at AICN HERE.

For those of you more apt to read shorter stuff with only minor spoilers, Dark Horizons have also run a much safer to read review from the AZ test screening, which you can find HERE.

Stroke 9 “Kick Some Ass” Single Begins Airplay…

June 17th, 2001 @ 9:54 pm | No Comments » | Scooped by Mike Luoma

  • A promotional CD for Jay & Silent Bob Strike Back has started to appear at radio stations around the country, featuring the first single from the soundtrack, Stroke 9’s “Kick Some Ass”. The jacket art for the single is promoting the flick quite heavily, they’re obviously looking for a big sountrack push with this one. We’re working with Stroke 9’s management to be able to provide a clip of the tune for you to check out legally. Until then, here’s what the art and the disc are looking like.

  • IGN’s got a nice little report running on Kevin’s involvement in Prince’s Paisley Park celebration. There’s even a long distance photo where the keen eye can catch Kevin at work. You’ll definitely wanna click HERE for a report on the goings-on in Minnesota. Thanks to Steve SHead84417@aol.com at IGN for the news and the mention.
  • Here’s a follow-up to our VULGAR piece the other day regarding its release date – We missed a post from direction Bryan Johnson regarding that very subject. Here ya go:
It was SUPPOSED to be August 24th but was bumped when JSBSB was moved to the same date. My understanding is that Dimension paid off Lion’s Gate so JSBSB wouldn’t fall flat on its ass should it open on the same day against the mighty cinematic juggernaut that is Vulgar. Seriously, I hear it may open the second week of September now so we can ride the media coat tails of JSBSB.

We’ll keep ya posted.

  • Following up on ANOTHER story from last week, according to www.dc-dvd.net, the Dogma Special Edition WILL have RCE (Regional Code Enchancement) on it. This is bad news for those of you outside of the US with all-region DVD players that ya can’t use to get around it. Guess you’ll hafta wait for a region-friendly release. Sorry for the bad news, but hope this can save ya some cash if you didn’t already place an order.
  • iFilm’s running a special feature on the top 10 best and worst summer movie trailers and how about that, the internet exclusive trailer to “Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back” is number one on the BEST list! Check it out HERE (though they did get their Brodie and Banky mixed up).
  • Wanna know more about Alanis’ role in Jay & Silent Bob Strike Back? Well…This article still doesn’t confirm the nature of said role, but the exposure continues…

Alanis Morissette Back With Jay And Silent Bob

It seems that letting Alanis Morissette play God is a pretty surefire way of getting into her good books, at least where auteur Kevin Smith is concerned. Apparently she had such a good time playing everyone’s favorite Western deity in the cult filmmaker’s controversial and quirky Dogma a few years ago that she’ll be appearing in his strange world again this summer. This time, she’ll be helping to see the beloved Jay and Silent Bob off into the sunset as they make their final live action appearance.

Smith’s new film, Jay And Silent Bob Strike Back, will be seeing the lads off in star-studded style. Along with Morissette, stars like Ben Affleck, Matt Damon, Chris Rock and Joey Lauren Adams will also be returning to the fold. While some have been confirmed to be reprising their previous Smith roles, the director has refused to confirm whether or not Alanis will once again be tackling omnipotence during her moments on screen.

Chances are that audiences will have to wait until the film’s August 24 release date to find out the nature of Alanis’ appearance.

Thanks to ChartAttack for the story. By the way, word has it that Alanis may not appear in the final version of the film, due to cuts. Whether that will change or not remains to be seen. A lot can happen between now and the end of August.

  • Kevin’s comic works get a nice mention in the latest issue of Sound & Vision Magazine:
“COMIC RELIEF: You’ve seen the movie, but have you read the comics? Writer/Director Kevin Smith has written a handful of hilarious comics based on the Jersey slackers from his film Clerks. Smith has also raised hell for Marvel Comics by resurrecting Daredevil, turning a title that had fallen from grace into a Top 10 seller. He also hits the bulls-eye every month with DC Comics’ recently relaunched Green Arrow. Slated for June is Chasing Dogma (Image Comics), a paperback that bridges the gap between Smith’s Chasing Amy and Dogma feature films (sorry kids – like the movies, this one’s R-rated). Smith’s next flick, Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back, is due out in August.
  • Finally today, some important news from you planning to catch Jason Lee in Florida for that Chasimg Amy screening we mentioned a while back: The theater where Lee is doing the Q&A has been changed, likely due to the overwhelming response.Instead of being at the ENZIAN THEATRE, he will be at the ANNIE RUSSELL THEATER on the ROLLINS COLLEGE CAMPUS in WINTER PARK. The hotline (407-629-8587) says that STANDBY tickets will be numbered out 45 minutes prior to showtime. If you don’t have a ticket and want one, you might still have a chance!
