- Kevin just reported that the trailer is going through a final sound mix as we speak, and thus will not be ready until around MIDNIGHT PACIFIC TIME, meaning about 3:00 AM here on the East Coast. Alas, that’s a bit too late for either of us to wait up with, but we’ll have a mirror up here bright and early if all goes well (maybe sooner). At any rate, go get some sleep (or wait up and look for the trailer on View Askew or the Poopshoot site). We’ll see ya with that trailer right here tomorrow morning.

News From Kevin On Trailer, Soundtrack, & More!
- Kevin checked in last night in the wee hours to post a HUGE update including confirmation on the trailer’s arrival TONIGHT (it’ll be right here, folks, so watch for it), the J&SBSB soundtrack (shaping up quite well), and lots more. Read on and check for a few comments from us afterwards:
So the trailer’s now locked. It’s about a minute and nine seconds. Fun stuff.
Phil and Vordo are mixing it tomorrow morning, Phil will compress it in the afternoon, and Ming will show up at night to hurl it into the cyber void so ya’ll can download it at 9pm pacific/12am eastern. Remember to download the latest version of Quicktime beforehand.
On Soundtrack(s): Universal’s doing the soundtrack, which is kind of poetic, as they also put out the ‘Rats’ CD (let’s hope both the soundtrack and the flick itself fare better in the marketplace than poor l’il ‘Rats’). It comes out two weeks before the flick, and it’s packed with some great songs by Stroke 9, Afroman, Morris Day and the Time, Marcy Playground, PJ Harvey, Bloodhound Gang, Bon Jovi, and a host of others. We’re even getting a chance to sort of right a past wrong, by putting Dave Pirner’s ‘Tube of Wonderful’ (the title theme of ‘Amy’, also heard in ‘Jay and Silent Bob’) on the disc. And yesterday I pulled a slew of dialogue clips for interludes between the tracks.
It’s also going to be an enhanced CD – which means there’s some video on it as well (for those of you with CDRom capability). Look for the first ‘net trailer on the disc, as well as a for-the-soundtrack-only video of ‘Jay’s Chant 2001′, comprised of a bunch of footage from the flick.
As if that’s all not enough, I’ve heard there’s going to be a movie cash coupon included in the CD for a few bucks off the price of admission to the flick (five bucks off, I believe – but don’t quote me).
Before I sound any more like a Universal Records pitch-man, I’m going to stop talking about the ‘Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back’ soundtrack…
…and START talking about the ‘Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back’ SCORE Soundtrack. That’s right: this flick’s so big, there’s not just one soundtrack, but TWO! The Score Soundtrack is all of Jim Venable’s music for the flick (which you’ve heard in the first ‘net trailer, and will hear more of in the second ‘net trailer tomorrow night). Ink’s not dry on the deal, but it’s being put out by a very reputable score soundtrack label (other than Universal). Congrats to Jim, and us too.
In other news…
E! ran a story about the flick yesterday. Brad and Chris might have it up at Newsaskew later in the week.
The two videos we’re shooting in Jersey next week are for the Stroke 9 song ‘Kick Some Ass’ and the Afroman song ‘Because I Got High’. I’m not directing either (Greg Dark and Cousin Mike are the respective directors), but Jay and I are in both. Hopefully, they’ll start airing in late July.
We’ve started initial talks about an interesting distribution outlet for the ill-fated ‘Dogma’ DVD documentary. It’s farther down the road, but it’ll be pretty sweet if it works out.
Hope you all dig the trailer. Spread the word that it’s going up tomorrow night here and at Newsaskew.
One final note: in the thread below, some folks gave me props for being good to the fans by putting out ‘net trailers. Trust me – it’s my pleasure. They’re really fun to cut, and gratifying to share with you.
Not to mention that it helps sell tickets down the road, hopefully…
You folks give me a lot of credit for doing stuff like that, but honestly, I wouldn’t do it if it wasn’t fun for me too. When you make a movie, you want to show it to people as soon as possible. Being that we’ve got to wait until August 24th to do that, this is the next best thing.
So thanks for the kudos…
But thank YOU – for giving a shit in the first place.
Wow, so that’s not one but TWO soundtracks! That’s fantastic. Let’s hope that deal to get the score CD out comes to fruition. And the news of the cool artists AND dialogue clips on the disc is most welcome, as well as the possibility of the movie cash being inside. Should help to sell some soundtracks AND movie tickets on top of it all. Very, very cool.
Bad news on the E! news footage – Due to confusion about which day it was airing, we missed capturing it. If anyone’s got it on cassette (or by some chance anyone from E! is reading this), we’d love a copy of the piece to place online in the Scooping The Monkey archives.
Come back tonight as we’ll be ready to debut that trailer at midnight sharp, assuming no technical difficulties. It’s time to see what kinda traffic this new server of ours can stand up to! See ya then.
Dogma SE Starts Shipping…No RCE!
- We’re receiving reports from all over the country about the Dogma SE shipping and even arriving early in their homes. Sounds like Columbia/Tristar got these suckers out to the retail outlets in plenty of time, so expect to see a TON on your local DVD shop’s shelves next week. Many online retailers have shipped to customers already, and some stores have even put the SE on shelves and broke the street date.
The other news that’s come from this is that the disc is NOT RCE encoded, meaning those of you overseas who ordered the disc CAN indeed play it in your region-free players, no matter what. After receiving so many conflicting reports on this, the best course in the end was just to wait for the final product. We’ve now received confirmation that RCE was not used on the disc at all.
Finally, our final contribution to ya to celebrate the release of the SE…See the newsbites below for the “Stash Spot” featuring Kevin & Jay, from Disc 2 of the set. Enjoy!

- It’s here! That soon-to-be-famous clip from the Dogma DVD of Kevin and Jay blatantly plugging the Stash in Red Bank, NJ is now online. It’s a fun little commercial, that ya just can’t watch without smiling. Check it out first-hand right HERE! We’ll likely add this commercial to the summaries or elsewhere for all to see in the future, in case they miss this news, so be sure to refer others to it in the future.
- A Chasing Amy DVD release in Australia? It could happen! This cryptic news of an August 8, 2001 release for the disc was found on www.dvd.net.au under the “Coming Soon” tab. They claim the disc will be released by a company called “Shock Records”, though their site has no info. We’re not sure if this is a mistake or not, but those of you in Australia without region 1 DVD players may be in luck! Stay tuned.
- Here’s some more multimedia for ya today – A very brief Kevin mention on yesterday’s Howard Stern radio show. As fans know, Stern does a news segment featuring audio press clips for the last hour or so of every show, but rarely lets them play all of the way through. HERE’S what happened when Robin attempted to plug Jay & Silent Bob Strike Back.
- Ben Affleck & Matt Damon have both been named part of People Magazine’s Top 50 Bachelors. You can check out the writeups and the entire list HERE.
- We’re receiving some reports from Dark Horizons and Laker Jim’s Fletch page (as well as a report we lost that came in the other day, sorry, scooper) that Miramax have purchased the domain www.fletchwonthemovie.com. We looked into it and it looks like they’ve had a hold of this one for years now, so we figure it was just done as a precaution IF the movie does get made. Don’t consider that a guarantee, though. Studios often purchase domains for films only in the planning stages, which go unused when the films aren’t made. We’ll keep ya posted on that one. With Kevin’s statement that his next project might not be what we expected, it doesn’t sound like Fletch is right around the corner, though.
- Stoke 9 mentioned the soundtrack and the new flick in an update of their online diary. Check it out if you’re so inclined. Nothing much new that hasn’t been said here already, but the band definitely seem excited about having their song in the film.
- Finally today, the Dogma SE reviews continue to come in, so much that we might hafta stop mentioning them all. This latest one, from DVD IN Detail, lauds the DVD itself but doesn’t seem to thrilled with the extras. Check out that review HERE.
Kevin: “No Trailer Tonight”…
- Alrighty, after the South Park “shit” storm tonight, looks like Kev’s posted an update regarding another day’s delay for the trailer tonight, with good reason. Here’s Kevin:
Last minute fixes for some press screenings we’re having next week, soundtrack/song placement discussions, getting ready to shoot not one, but two music videos back in Jersey on Monday and Tuesday, pulling together a project for the NY Times… all of these nuisances monopolized our time this week, preventing us from getting the trailer up. I apologize.
But we’re out of the woods (for the moment), so I’m making a final pass on the trailer the moment I sign off, in an effort to get it up tomorrow night.
So look for the ‘Jay and Silent Boh Strike Back’ Internet Trailer 2 to go up Thursday the 21st, at 9pm L.A. time/Midnight East Coast time.
I hope you’ll feel it was worth the wait.
So…Looks like tomorrow will finally be it. Got a good feeling about that one! Now go ahead and crash the talkbacks again, folks. You seem to love doing it. We’ll be back with more updates soon as well.
Trailer Delayed Until Tonight At MIDNIGHT EST…
- Sorry it’s late, as we weren’t sure which way it was gonna go ourselves last night, but yes, the new internet trailer’s on hold for ONE MORE DAY. This isn’t being done for suspense or to piss anyone off, but the gang just wants to get it right, work out all the bugs, and have a nice launch. Stay tuned, folks, you waited this long, so we’ll try again tonight and hope for the best!
Just another word about the talkbacks, as well. As many of you noticed, they’re disappearing lately. That’s due to the fact that a lot of users are posting and refreshing them a few times a minute, over and over again. The talkbacks are designed to sustain a logical conversation thread, but when lots of small posts start coming in REALLY fast, they disappear. All we can suggest to you, if you want the talkbacks to stay in place and not go all wacky or crash, is to use discretion in posting mindless stuff that gets them so large in size. Try using the forums in that case. Thanks, & enjoy.

Jason Lee LIVE In Florida: Reports!
- Jason Lee appeared in Florida earlier this week for a Q&A session after a screening of Chasing Amy. Tons of View Askew fans nabbed tickets, and tons more showed up on the rainy day for standby tickets, but it sounds like a fine time was had by all, and Jason dropped some hints about his roles in J&SBSB, Fletch, and more. Here’s Robert’s exclusive report:
2) As you may know, the festival folks screened “Chasing Amy, ” which was received rather well. It was hard to say if, as I suspected, the majority of the audience had already seen the “flick” (as Kevin would put it.) Maybe it was just me, but the crowd seemed to laugh “extra loud” during Jason Lee’s bits (not that there’s anything wrong with that.)
3) It was a typical nasty, rainy, Florida summer evening, but despite this and an insane mob of people hoping to pick up “standby” tickets, the atmosphere was overall subdued and pleasant.
4) Jason appeared immediately after the film ended, and fielded nearly an hour’s worth of questions, with some feeble help of a “moderator,” whose microphone conked out half the time. I wasn’t really sure what to expect from “an Evening with” Jason, but it was your standard Q&A, with your standard variety of questions: a few overzealous females, some “in-the-know” hardcore fans, and more than a few skater-related queries.
5) Jason initially appeared a bit like a deer in the headlights, and even asked the crowd if they wanted “serious” answers from him, or, as he seemed to expect, his patented wisecracking. Luckily, he settled into a steady flow of both. He took great pride in pointing out his wife, Carmen, in the crowd, her role in “Amy,” as well as their production company they are starting up. I guess the big “revelation” of the night was he hopes to direct a project next year, and indicated that Carmen was the screenwriter (though he didn’t make this entirely clear.)
6) Other tidbits: He’ll do “Fletch Lives” if Kevin Smith does it, and if whatever studio will fund it. Also, his role(s) in “Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back” seem little more than cameos. “Mallrats” is still his favorite of his own films. And, interestingly, someone asked if he was upset that he wasn’t offered (or couldn’t accept) the role of Loki in “Dogma,” and he ultimately answered that it was nice to not be “the friend” or “the sidekick” for once. (He also took certain “big budget” filmmakers to task for casting his fellow, “independent film” peers, in order to “try to look cool.”)
Like a lot of these events, it ended too quickly, and you wish the audience (or yourself) had asked such and such question, but ah well. I was hoping that, at such an intimate venue, Jason could have stuck around, taken a few photos, signed a few things, etc., but this was not to be (although some of the Festival workers didn’t miss an opportunity to rub it in the faces of “the rest of us” how they were going to meet with Jason in “the green room” afterwards. Didn’t know a quaint but ultimately crappy campus facility had a “green room,” but…
As was reported, the event had been moved from the Festival’s headquarters, the Enzian Theater, to Rollins College in Winter Park. I suppose demand for more tickets equals more bucks, but I think I would have preferred if the event had stayed at the Enzian, despite it having the worst film projection system in the universe. The smaller venue might have led to a more relaxed, informal “happening,” though it was fairly loose as it was.
All in all, great to see Jason in the flesh, and, as promised, I hope to send some photos lickety-split.
AICN also ran a small story on the appearance today, which you can check out HERE. Finally, you can catch another summary and some exlusive pics of Lee’s Q&A at the Stomp Tokyo website HERE.

- Rumor has it (though we’ve yet to see it) that E! News Daily is running a piece on J&SBSB today. If we can track it down, we’ll put it online for ya. As you may or may not know, anchors Jules Asner and Steve Kmetko have cameos in the film.
- The Cloudmakers, a hardcore group into Speilberg’s upcoming “AI “, have come up with a Chasing Amy knockoff somehow connected to all the online games they’ve been playing with the film. You can check that out HERE.
- A new flkck produced by Chris Rock, based on a character he created, “Pootie Tang”, now has a trailer online over at www.movie-list.com. Also, here’s the poster for the summer release “Osmosis Jones”. Rock voices the animated character while Bill Murray stars in the live portion. Looks fun.
- Finally today, a “Kevin Smith Triple Feature” of Clerks, Chasing Amy, & Dogma will screen in San Joke from August 17th to the 23rd. Surf HERE for more info.
