Stroke 9 To Release First Single From J&SBSB…

June 6th, 2001 @ 2:22 pm | No Comments » | Scooped by Mike McCarty, Marksman & Stephen Liu

  • Looks like the soundtrack’s coming together nicely. STROKE 9 will release the first single from the Jay & Silent Bob CD soundtrack, “Kick Some Ass”, on July 3rd. We’ll look into getting permission to post a clip or some version of the tune for ya. In the meantime, here’s their official announcement:
THE NEW STROKE 9 SINGLE:

“KICK SOME ASS” is the first single off our new album, the self-titled STROKE 9. There is a long story about where we got the title, but I won’t get into it now. Anyway, the song will be released to radio on JULY 3, just in time to celebrate the ass-kicking we gave the British. So if you are working the summer day-job action, feel free to call and harass your local radio station to play a little Stroke 9. If you don’t know the phone number, click over to stroke9.com and use our nifty radio request line finder. We’ve heard that some stations are playing it early, so get in.

The song is also the first single from the new Kevin Smith movie JAY AND SILENT BOB STRIKE BACK. Kevin Smith is the dude who made Dogma, Chasing Amy, Clerks, and Mallrats, which is one of the damn funniest movies of all time and Jason Lee’s best performance. The song is featured in the new movie and will be on the soundtrack. J.A.S.B.S.B. comes out at the end of August. Lines are forming now.

  • Kevin’s chalked up yet another radio appearance as planned, this morning on DC 101’s Elliot in the Morning show. Seems that “Fletch Won” still is definitely the next View Askew flick he’ll direct IF he can get Jason Lee on board. The Marksman summarizes:
Kevin made another radio appearance this morning, this time on DC101 (101.1FM Washington DC) during the Elliott in the Morning show. The interview was a quick six minutes over the phone to promote the new flick. Based on a few remarks, it seemed like he was still in LA at the time. Kevin said that the folks at Miramax passed him a note telling him to go on the radio and talk about the flick, which explains the sudden rush of radio appearances. He talked about how Ben Affleck was returning in a few short but important scenes, which led to an explanation of his involvement in the production of Good Will Hunting. He also said that the runtime on the new flick was 102 minutes, and that Fletch Won would be the next View Askew project. There was also mention of how talent new to Kevin as a director called his set the most ‘laid back’ they had ever seen. During the final plug, Kevin mentioned something that is either a major spoiler or just a joke: He said that Jay and Silent Bob die horribly at the end of the flick.
  • Yep, the IMDB Poll really is flying with the View Askew references lately. Today’s scoop got so many e-mails that we can’t possibly begin to name all the scoopers, so we’re just naming the first. The IMDB asks:
“Best clueless/loser/aimless duo (of the last ten years)?”.

Jay & Bob and even Dante & Randall are given as choices. At presstime, Jay & Bob are stealing the show, trouncing the likes of Bill & Ted, Romy & Michelle and others. Thanks to all who sent this one in.

  • Columbia Tristar have posted the press release for the Dogma SE DVD HERE.Sounds like all is on schedule. It won’t be long now…

  • By far, today’s most popular scoop comes from the IMDB where View Askew is a choice in this question:
Coolest production company name?

Currently, at presstime, View Askew is the leader with over 20 percent of the vote among over 10 other production companies. Go cast your vote and watch the results soar!

  • Kevin’s been hitting the radio circuit with a few interviews lately. He was scheduled to appear on 103.3 The Edge (WEDG) in Buffalo, NY, today on the Shredd and Ragan show in the morning. Yesterday, a local Portland, Oregon station (94.7 KNRK) interviewed him and one of the DJs summed it up:
I was out of breath the whole time. Kevin was good and good and good and then comics came up and he was off like a jet pack. Awesome. We talked about the Fletch Won script, Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back, of course….Marvel Knight Daredevil 1-8 and then David Mack’s run with the series after that, Marvel in general and whether they were trying to sort of gleen ‘indie cred’, the new Green Arrow series, Oni Press and local comic artists…what else. Joey Lauren Adams, does her voice suck or not….different reoccuring things in the films (hockey, Star Wars, John Hughes, referencing other characters from other movies, etc.) and how that is a comic-y thing to do, a sort of continuity thing for the fans to get happy about. We might replay the interview again later, I don’t know.
  • A few new sightings in the magazine realm contained plugs for J&SBSB: Playstation Magazine summed up the latest rumors regarding the cast and the involvement of Star Wars alumni Mark Hamill and Carrie Fisher. And, speaking of which, Star Wars Insider #54 also chats about Hamill’s involvement.

  • And finally today, a scan from the excellent UK Film magazine “Hotdog” has managed to continue on with their View Askew mention streak by putting a nice article with an inset photo about Green Arrow and Hollywood Stars in general using comics as another creative outlet. Click the scan to see the snippet. Later.

  • Big news for you west-coasters courtesy of DVD File…Kevin’s gonna be doing a signing of the Dogma SE DVD out in Studio City this July first. You gotta buy a Dogma SE AT DAVE’S for this deal though, and he’ll also sign one other item (at least, that’s what they’re saying). Here’s the official DVD File details:

New Jersey’s finest filmmaker will be n hand to sign copies of the new Dogma Special Edition due out later this month from Columbia. • The June 18th show in Florida featuring Jason Lee showcasing Chasing Amy has SOLD OUT according to representatives down there. Actually, word has it that the phones and reservations went nuts after the mention on News Askew last week, so it sounds like a TON of the site’s fans will be on hand to enjoy the show. In fact, none of the other appearances down there are selling nearly as fast, Lee is stealing the spotlight from the sound of it! Good job, folks. Get ready for a big crowd, Jason…

  • Guitar player for the Bloodhound Gang, Lupus, announced that their new song “Jackass” will be featured on the Jay & Silent Bob Strike Back soundtrack. The band had announced earlier in the week that they were taking it off the American Pie 2 soundtrack for a better movie. Very good to hear.
  • Strangely enough, Yahoo Movies held a poll on May 31st asking people what they thought of Dogma. You can find the poll in the archives. Dogma did quite well, coincidentally.
  • Chris Rock is featured an article in Friday’s Guardian (UK) to promote his latest film. Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back got a mention with Rock quoted as saying “when Kevin Smith calls, I come running.” The article can be found online HERE.
  • Will Ferrell will appear on Jay Leno this Thursday. No idea what he’s promoting but he’s been mentioning the flick lately in appearances, so here’s hoping for another high profile plug.
  • And finally today, as we always try to end on a very light note, the results of that Empire Magazine Poll – “Who should run the British political empire?”:
“Take a break from the mind-numbing torture that is British politics and choose which of the following larger-than-life characters you’d prefer to run this country.”

The Dude : 34%
Silent Bob : 31%
Dr Evil : 24%
Emperor Palpatine : 5%
Don Corleone : 6%

  • Okay folks, it looks like the site is fully functional here at the new home, and hoooo boy, is it ever fast (at least, so far, without a ton of users on board). You should see full functionality on all areas: Forums, talkbacks, and the like. In fact, if you stayed away from Talkbacks and Forums due to speed issues, we HIGHLY recommend you try them again. We think you’re going to find this place faster than ever before. Bigtime. At any rate, the important thing is that things seem to be working fine, the switch went smooth, and we should be a ton faster and more ready for the next big multimedia blitz, whenever that happens. Alright now, let’s take care of some business:
