News Askew On Location In California: Part Two!

March 22nd, 2001 @ 1:48 pm | No Comments » | Scooped by Brad & Chris

  • For those of you that may have forgot (it’s been a while!), we visited the set of Jay & Silent Bob Strike Back late last month. Part 1 focused on our trip out there and our first day on the set. This second half covers Tuesday and Wednesday, and includes our experiences on the set, watching the completed film (so far), checking out the production design offices, and lots, lots more. Don’t miss it! Surf over here to read our On Location report right now! If you missed part one, it’s online as well, of course. And note: This report is totally spoiler-free, but was written originally with spoilers intact. When the film approaches release, we’ll be posting the spoiler-filled version for you to check out as well. Enjoy!

Your Photo In A View Askew Film Contest Winners!

March 22nd, 2001 @ 1:46 pm | No Comments » | Scooped by Brad & Chris

  • Yep, you read it right. Right here, courtesy of Ratface and the production design department, we’ve got the “winners” of that “mail-in-a-photo-and-be-in-the-flick” thing. These two bulletin boards will appear in a police station and in Marshall Willenholly’s office in the film. They were assembled completely from the photos that all of you sent in, so click the thumbnails above and scour them for you and your friends! Are you ON one of these boards? E-mail Chris your name so he can add you to our list over at Scooping The Monkey. And if you found yourself, congratulations, and welcome to the long list of those appearing in Jay & Silent Bob Strike Back. Thanks again to Rat for scanning in the photos and supplying them to us, as we know many of you have been eagerly anticipating seeing this stuff. Look for more stuff from the production department soon!

5 Million Hits!

March 22nd, 2001 @ 1:44 pm | No Comments » | Scooped by Brad & Chris

  • As you probably noticed, News Askew celebrated our 5 MILLIONTH HIT early yesterday. Thanks again to all of you for stopping by the site over the past 4 years (has it been that long?), and we hope to continue to keep things fresh and exciting as this project continues. With Kevin and View Askew keeping as busy as they have been, it shouldn’t be a problem! With the new movie coming out this year, tons of DVD releases, and of course all of the comic and toy projects, there’s no sign of things slowing up anytime soon. As for the site itself, hits are coming faster than ever, so let’s get working on that next million, which we’ll likely hit sometime this summer. Thank you for your continued visits, scoops, and your support. As always, the site wouldn’t be here without you.

Congratulations to Scott Mayle for hitting the magic number and sending us the screenshot. We’re going to look into View Askew prize archives and see what we can come up with, as this occasion deserves some sort of reward, for sure. His website, by the way, features a cartoon strip called Sod & Git, characters who are currently on a Spring Break road trip to be extras in Jay & Silent Bob Strike Back. You can check out Scott’s site HERE.

WizardWorld On The J&SBSB Set: Marvel Character Cameo?

March 21st, 2001 @ 11:04 pm | No Comments » | Scooped by Heather, Jon & Matthew Clark

  • We haven’t been mentioning these things lately, but WizardWorld’s small bi-weekly reports have been going on at the Wizard World site, as promised. Most of them have been standard stuff, that you’ve seen here or elsewhere, but this week’s makes an interesting mention of a Marvel character that will appear in a cameo…Maybe a few more clues to the mystery? You can read the full report HERE.

  • The second printing of Green Arrow Issue #1 has arrived at stores everywhere! If you missed the issue, now’s your chance to catch up (you collectors may wanna seek out issue #1’s still, though).
  • FYI: The Art Askew site is back up at its regular location…They were also a victim of the Tripod error that we talked about in last update’s newsbites section.
  • And finally today, a real long-shot of a rumor on the IMDB today, but we figured it may as well be printed:
Ben For Duke Nukem?

Cartoon crime fighter Duke Nukem is the latest animated computer star set for the movies – with fan Ben Affleck in the role. The whisky-swilling star of the hit computer game follows Tomb Raider, Final Fantasy and Resident Evil, which are all set for releases this year and next, in the transition to the big screen. Affleck confirmed his interest in the part last year, having been approached by movie makers after confessing in an interview to being a fan of Duke Nukem.

  • This is gonna be really quick, since it’s time to go to work, but the latest AICN column by Mysterio is now online HERE. Lots of great stuff in this week’s column, along with a pic of Kevin and Affleck behind the monitors. Surf over, check it out, and we’ll elaborate more (and talk about our 5 millionth hit!) later.

Two More Jason Lee Interviews Online…

March 20th, 2001 @ 7:02 pm | No Comments » | Scooped by Dave & Chris

  • Lee World has just posted part 1 of their 2-part Jason Lee interview, much of which was drawn from questions from you, the viewers. Part ONE is quite large and consists of 40ish questions following his Childhood, High School Years, Skating Career, and early acting career up to Chasing Amy. Part 2 will pick up from where they left off and go into his views and opinions on many things, his future, and fan questions. It’ll be online next week.

A small article about Lee also appears on TV Guide Online, mostly discussing Heartbreakers but also going into Stealing Sanford a bit. Chasing Amy & Dogma are also mentioned.

  • Here’s a blurb from Video ETA on the Banky & Brodie appearances in Jay & Bob Strike Back:
JAY AND SILENT BOB STRIKE BACK UPDATE: IS THE ASKEWNIVERSE BIG ENOUGH FOR BANKY AND BRODIE?

Jason Lee has the enviable position in this movie of bringing “back to life” two well-loved characters from the View Askew film universe. But this will be the first time that Banky Edwards and Brodie Bruce will be in the same movie. Kevin Smith has already said that he won’t use expensive (but cool) special effects to have the two characters on the screen at the same time. In fact, Lee has confirmed that all his Banky scenes were filmed in L.A. while all of his Brodie scenes will be filmed in Red Bank, NJ. But the question remains, will diehard fans be able to handle the duality of Banky and Brodie? I’d love to see them meet each other whilst walking through the mall giving each other a mutual stink palm…”

  • You can catch Jay & Silent Bob Strike Back star Ali Larter on the cover of the new issue of Maxim, and in an article starting on page 100. It does mention the August release of Jay & Silent Bob Strike Back, as well.
  • Brian O’Halloran appeared last night on web channel U8TV.com last night (though we hear it was in a hot tub, so be warned!). You can view the clip and read up on The Lofters (which is apparently another of those 24-hour webcam sites) right HERE.
  • Couple newsbites on other Askewniverse sites we’ve supported in the past: Apparently, website company Tripod have adopted some strict rules when it comes to sites they host, thus Art Askew AND the Fletch Won fanpage both got hit yesterday. Erik assures us that Art Askew will be back as soon as he can find a suitable home, and Fletch Won has already found a new home HERE. Apparently, the new Tripod rules forbid vulgar content and copyright infringement. UPDATE: Today, the Fletch webmaster got a note from Tripod apologizing and giving him BACK his site. So you can find it back at Tripod (http://fletchwon.tripod.com) OR at the Geocities addess above. No word on Art Askew just yet.
  • Kevin is mentioned in a recent Chicago Tribune article on the current state of comics. Here’s the quote:
Still, more than a few Hollywood personalities are getting into the game. “Chasing Amy” director Kevin Smith is currently writing “Green Arrow” for DC Comics, after his successful run last year on Marvel Comics’ “Daredevil.”

You can read the entire piece HERE

  • There’s another small blurb in Jeffrey Wells’ Reel column about delays in Vanilla Sky.

Three More Pics From Scott Mosier!

March 20th, 2001 @ 7:05 am | No Comments » | Scooped by Brad & Chris

  • It’s early Tuesday morning, but we DO have three new pics from the camera of Scott Mosier for ya. These were again taken at or around the set of Jay & Silent Bob Strike Back in California. Scott tries to catch some good moments, usually between takes or during some downtime, so you can get a look at the actors and actresses in their off-camera state. These again are exclusive, and we thank Scott & Kevin for giving us the chance to share them with you. We’ll see you next Monday with a few more!
