Sunday Commentary…

July 9th, 2000 @ 9:57 pm | No Comments » | Scooped by Brad & Chris

  • Hey folks, been a while since I’ve wrote one of these, but there just hasn’t been much to say lately. Can anyone who caught “Scary Movie” at the box office this weekend believe some of the stuff they got away with? Wow. Matt & Trey of South Park fame should be miffed they EVER had trouble with their flicks, and Kevin should NEVER have had trouble with Clerks given some of the sight gags they used in SM. Sheesh. Anyway, got just a few NewsBites today, and a new poll topic that’s got some tough choices, so be sure and vote, read on, and we’ll see ya back here next time.

  • The following View Askew folks will be at the San Diego con later this month: Kevin, Jennifer, Harley, Gail, Byron, Bryan, Walter & Malcolm. Here’s a scoop on when to catch a rare Q&A/panel with Kevin himself. If you’re going to the con, do NOT miss this:

  • Those of you who have yet to see the flick (or want to see some again) will be happy to know that a clip from “A Better Place” will be shown on the net’s Indie Film Showcase. Be sure and surf over to this site to check out the clip and lots more!
  • For those of you without DVD players: The Dogma VHS is now available from Columbia House Home Video for the low, low price of just 12 bucks. Get it while ya can.
  • The British mag “Empire” is NOW reporting that Cameron Crowe’s new flick (with Jason Lee) is NOT called “The Uncool” but rather “Something Real”. Does ANYONE know the final title FOR SURE??!??! Friggin Crowe and his endless secrecy.

  • Finally today, an old scan for ya here, from an Entertainment Weekly a few days ago, but it got thrown at the bottom of a pile and we forgot about it. Looks like they were impressed with how well the Dogma DVD was doing, even WITH the SE looming. Way cool.

  • The Chasing Amy DVD continues to sell quite well, it’s in Amazon‘s top 10 sales list this week. The new release of the VHS is also selling quite well. Just goes to show ya, there’s a lot of fans of that flick out there. A new review of the flick is also now online at the Comic Book Resources web site.
  • More sources for copies of Fletch Won: www.Alibris.com and www.Powells.com. Happy hunting.

The Full Story On Kevin’s “Exposure”…

July 6th, 2000 @ 2:40 pm | No Comments » | Scooped by Naganootch

  • Thanks to the many of you (too numerous to even list in the scoopage area) to let us know that Kevin confirmed his involvement with the “Exposure” project on George Lucas over at Sci-Fi. In fact, Kevin’s recording his segments at the Stash next week. He will indeed host the entire special, which sounds like a great one. We’re expecting some press contact and perhaps even an advanced look at the show here at NA, but we’ve gotten an inside contact who’s been kind enough to supply us with ALL the details on this must-see program:
Exposure is a weekly show on SciFi that airs every Wednesday night at 10pm. It shows short films and interviews with the filmmakers who made them. Some of the shorts they’ve shown are Tim Burton’s “Vincent” and “Frankenweenie” and Clive Barker’s “Salome” and “The Forbidden.”

They are producing a special George Lucas/Star Wars show where they will air “George Lucas in Love,” “Tripping the Rift,” and Lucas’ “THX-1138 EB” and “Freinheit.”

The special, unlike other episodes, will have a host which will be Kevin. They’re shooting his segments sometime next week at the comic book store. (I believe its the first thing filmed in the new store.) Supposedly, the show will air sometime in August.

If you want to see films and interviews from past shows, go to http://exposure.scifi.com

Watch Exposure, every Wednesday night at 10pm EST on SciFi.

There ya have it folks, the exclusive scoop! More on the way as the project develops.

“Jay” To Appear With “Silent Bob” In Chicago…

July 6th, 2000 @ 2:39 pm | No Comments » | Scooped by Nick Lynch & BBruce

  • Here’s some perty cool news…Jay Mewes has signed to appear at Wizard World in Chicago, where Kevin is also scheduled to show! We’ve got no details on which days the two will be there, if any panels are setup, or where they’ll sign (if they’ll even sign together, which is likely but not definite). Keep an eye here for more info on Wizard World as we can dig it up.

More Ways To Catch “Fletch” In Print…

July 6th, 2000 @ 2:37 pm | No Comments » | Scooped by Bannerman, Josh Tafoya

  • A couple more sources have checked in with good leads on places to get “Fletch Won” novels. We’ll let them speak for themselves:
The best online source for “Fletch Won” or ANY used book is probably http://www.bookfinder.com. It indexes hundreds of book stores (both new and old, INCLUDING Amazon) around the world. A search for “Fletch Won” returned 142 listings ranging in price from $1.65 (Mass Market Paperback) to $45.00 (1st Edition Hardcover).

And as a librarian, I would also point out that many libraries offer Interlibrary Loan programs if they don’t carry the title you’re looking for. I don’t know how this works everywhere else, but at our library, you only have to pay the return postage costs (usually $1.53 to $1.94, depending on the weight of the book).

You can ALSO find a great selection, naturally, at http://www.usedbooks.com. Happy hunting…

  • Kevin’s a hot item of discussion over at the Hollywood Stock Exchange online game now, due to the upcoming Fletch and View Askew 5 projects. Here’s a story (in RealAudio format) that discusses their recommendations for the stock, though we hear it tells folks to actually SELL their stock in some of the stuff. Hmmm.
  • The writer of transmetropolitan (Warren Ellis) makes a very small crack/criticism at Kevin right towards the bottom of his essay, found HERE.

  • Finally today, we’re not sure what View Askew 5 is gonna be called, but we like the simplicy of this fan-made teaser poster concept, for sure. Enjoy.

“A Better Place” Soundtrack On The Way…

July 5th, 2000 @ 5:59 pm | No Comments » | Scooped by Vincent Pereira

  • The “A Better Place” hoopla is heating up with a pleasant surprise, a brand new SOUNDTRACK for the film from Gig Records! Way cool. Here’s Vincent himself with the info:
Gig Records is doing the soundtrack album, and they have a website – www.gigrecords.com. If you click on “sound clips” and look under Amazing Meet Project, the song “Stupid of Me” can be downloaded, and that’s one of the new songs on the soundtrack to A BETTER PLACE. Also, the main man behind Amazing Meet Project is Michael Ferentino, who is none other than “View Askew’s own Amy Noble”’s brother – he also has a solo album on that site, plus the Amazing Meet Project album itself which is very good, and of course the upcoming A BETTER PLACE soundtrack album which is about half his music and half the old music from the film – they even have an A BETTER PLACE soundtrack page under construction.

Check out the slick new tune for yourself at www.gigrecords.com!

  • Rumor has it that Kevin’s involved in a new special for the Sci-Fi Channel on George Lucas, featuring a few Lucas-related shorts (including THX 1138’s short original version), and more. We hear that Kevin may be conducting some interviews and introducing the shorts, which would be great, though we’ve yet to verify this.
  • IFC’s gonna be showing their Clerks Special Edition again later this month, on the 27th of July to be exact. Those of you who still don’t own the DVD or laserdisc copies of the film can watch IFC and catch the commentary, deleted scenes, and other extras. Tune in.
  • Cameron Crowe‘s new flick has been titled (we’re sorry to say) “The Uncool”. We were still hoping for “Stillwater”, which just seems to have that 70’s feel to it, but it looks like it’s not gonna happen. The film’s bound to bring even more notice for Jason Lee, and is set to make its public debut at the Toronto Film Festival this September.
  • Those of you looking for an actual paper copy of “Fletch Won” or any other Fletch books might be happy to know that Amazon’s UK site (amazon.co.uk) is selling them.
  • Wanna catch all four of Kev’s flicks at the San Diego Comicon this year? Here’s the final schedule:
Thursday (July 20th), Convention Center, Room 4

7:45 p.m. Clerks
9:15 p.m. Dogma
11:25 p.m. Room closes

Friday (July 21st), Convention Center, Room 4

7:45 p.m. Mallrats
9:20 p.m. Chasing Amy
11:15 p.m. Room closes

  • DOGMA will be shown in this year’s Jerusalem Film Festival in Israel on the 17th and 18th of July.
  • Matt Damon will appear on Jay Leno tonight at 11:30PM EST, perhaps to plug “Titan A.E.”
  • Another Chasing Amy DVD review has popped up online courtesy of DVD Verdict. Wow, lots of people weighing in on this disc. Anyway, if ya wanna keep track of what everyone’s saying, be sure to check it out.
  • And last, but certainly not least, scooper Steven Legge got a little bored working over the holiday weekend and whipped up a pretty slick little Shockwave Flash animation for your viewing pleasure. Enjoy!
