We’re Back From The Dead…

October 26th, 1997 @ 12:00 am | No Comments » | Scooped by Brad & Chris

  • Wow, I wonder why any of you even bother visting us on the weekend anymore. I’ve got to stop actually doing stuff on the weekend and start sitting in front of the computer more. Anyhow, we spent Friday night with Vincent, Neps, and Trent Phloog from the board at the Harwan Theatre in Mt. Ephram, New Jersey. Why, you ask? Well, we were there for “Fulci Night” : A screening of “The Gates of Hell” and the classic “Zombie”. A fine time was had by all, and Vinnie even managed to win a CD with some classic soundtrack music from some other Fulci films (“Manhattan Baby” and “House By The Cemetery”. After getting home around 5 AM Saturday morning, most of Saturday was spent in a trance as we either slept or tried to regain the sleeping schedule.

As for today, I have really no excuse for being late except that I was busy eating and playing video games. Hope you remembered to turn those clocks back an hour if you’re in one of those wacky daylight savings time areas like we are.

We’re now running our internet connection on a cable modem, and trying to get set up for the move of this website to a new server. Thanks for all your offers, we’ll get back to you with an answer as soon as we know anything. Our e-mail addresses will be changing soon, as well, which we’ll also tell you as soon as we know.

Alright, enough of this shit…Let’s get on with some real news:

Chasing Amy LD Release Date Announced!

October 26th, 1997 @ 12:00 am | No Comments » | Scooped by Brad & Chris

  • The disc that everyone’s been waiting for (and that Vinnie’s been RAVING about) will be hitting the streets on DECEMBER 10th, and we just can’t wait. Criterion’s put together a nice little package featuring:

  • Screen-specific commentary by director Kevin Smith, producer Scott Mosier, actors Ben Affleck and Jason Mewes, associate producer Robert Hawk, and Miramax executive Jon Gordon.
  • Ten deleted scenes
  • The original theatrical trailer
  • Outtakes
  • Special video introductions from the cast and crew
  • The Askewniverse Legend; a guide to the characters in the “New Jersey trilogy”

2 discs / CLV / $49.95 / 1997 / street date: JAN 1998

If you own a laserdisc player, you NEED this disc. And if you don’t own a laserdisc player, go out and BUY one, THEN buy this disc. With the advent of DVD, LD players are cheap now anyway.

Winter AskewFest Details…

October 26th, 1997 @ 12:00 am | No Comments » | Scooped by Brad & Chris

  • This is all heresay, but most likely true from what we’ve heard and who we’ve talked to, but here’s what we know about the View Askew film festival that Kevin mentioned. It will take place on Moday, December 29th (most likely in Red Bank). Tickets, limited to ONLY 250, will be sold for $35 bucks each, a bargain if you ask us. For your admission you’ll get to see the Jersey trilogy, plus “A Better Place” and “Drawing Flies”. You’ll even get a commemorative T-Shirt! Can’t beat that. As we hear more details, they’ll appear on this site. We’ll see you there.

Kev Says…

October 26th, 1997 @ 12:00 am | No Comments » | Scooped by Brad & Chris

  • Even KEVIN is beating us in updating you guys on stuff lately! Here’s a post straight from, where else, the VA WWWBoard with some nice details. We took out some of the non-Askew related stuff, even though it was pretty hilarious:
The Rutgers thing went well the other night. The first ‘Clerks’ comic script has been turned in. It’ll be out in February, and I think you’re all going to like it – it’s not steeped in continuity, but it’s a good read nonetheless.

The gala thing is shaping up. And (regardless of what some may think) we’ve got some cool merchandise and happenings getting ready for December (he said, plugging his empire and hawking wares like a montebank).

Also – I’ve watched large portions of both ‘Vulgar’ and ‘Big Helium Dog’, and can’t put into words how proud of the two Bri/y’s I am. They both did phenomenal jobs, and I can’t wait for all of you to see their efforts (not to mention my virtuoso perfs in both efforts, as a non-Bob m.f.).

Generally, a good month around these parts.

As always, thanks for keeping www.viewaskew.com a much visited web address (because you could all be over at www.all-anal.com all the time… like me).

Kev, if you’re still stopping by, thanks for keeping us informed and for allowing the site to continue. See ya at the gala…

“A Better Place” Hits The Big Apple!

October 24th, 1997 @ 12:00 am | No Comments » | Scooped by Brad & Chris

  • Board regular Gramp was kind enough to send us his on-site report from last night’s screening of “A Better Place” in NYC:
When I got to the box office the sign said “6:30 show sold out”. Good thing I picked up my ticket last week. Vincent said a few words before and after the movie he answered questions. As I’m watching the movie, I noticed the High School looked like, yes, it was the high school, on the street where I live. Small world. Vincent was asked, how they got to use Kearny High, he said they contacted various Boards of Education, and Kearny was a reasonable price.

Kevin, Kim, Scott, Monica, Brian Quinn, some of the Riders of the board, and I also recognized some cast members in attendance. Jason Lee listed under an alias [who I thought, played 2 parts] and his wife Carmen [kissed Joey in Amy] were both in it. Ethan Suplee, another alias, something about SAG I think, also. I liked it. I’d pay to see it again.

I just remembered, Vincent’s family was also there. I think they tried to take a flash picture when his name appeared on screen. I also saw Brian Lynch, who played Eddie. He asked me if my hair was growing back.

Dammit, and we were supposed to GO to this! Oh well. Sounds like we missed a pretty neat evening. Still gotta see that flick sometime. We’ll be seeing Vincent tonight at the Lucio Fulci Film Screenings in Mt. Ephram, so we hope to get some more info, but if you were there, send us your thoughts and reviews!

When Is Kevin NOT Kevin?

October 24th, 1997 @ 12:00 am | No Comments » | Scooped by Brad & Chris

  • There seems to be a fake “Kevin” posting wild rumors on the Webboard such as : Ben Affleck’s schedule will NOT allow him time to film “Dogma”.

Please remember, Kevin ONLY uses his WebTV to post messages. If the IP of one of his messages says something else, it’s not the real Kevin Smith.

Thanks For The Offers So Far!

October 24th, 1997 @ 12:00 am | No Comments » | Scooped by Brad & Chris

  • Just wanted to quickly say thanks to all of you who’ve offered us webspace to hold News Askew so far. Keep those offers coming in. We’re currently weighing our options and will begetting to all of you in the next few days. Today, we move our actual internet service over to the cable modem, but this account will be hanging around for a couple more weeks.

Don’t worry, you WILL know well in advance when we move and the new address will be posted here as well as on the View Askew WWWBoard. Thanks for your patience in the move!

WE’RE MOVING AND WE NEED YOUR HELP!

October 22nd, 1997 @ 12:00 am | No Comments » | Scooped by Brad & Chris

  • We’ve mentioned it the past and asked for help as a precautionary measure, but now, it’s really happening. Within the next month, this page WILL move to a new server, with a new address.

The reason for this is because we’re moving our internet account to a new provider, on an ultra fast cable modem no less! Why is this bad? Well, the new provider doesn’t give us enough web space to hold our page, unless we’re willing to pay an extra 5 dollars a month per meg! This is outrageous and we refuse to pay.

Therefore, WE NEED A NEW HOME! And we MEAN it this time! Sorry to put you all on the line like this, but it’s time for you to come through! Here’s what we’ll need:

  • A fast, reliable server that will be online and available for many years to come.
  • Approximately 4 megs of disk space to start, with that number growing at the rate of 300k or so (give or take) monthly, due to the news archives.
  • Access to the webpage at all times, through either telnet, FTP, or both, in order to let us update the page in realtime, at any time we need, to get the breaking news online right away. This is VERY IMPORTANT and the reason we couldn’t accept a lot of our previous invitations!

Well, that’s pretty much it. Not a problem, huh? We know it’s a tall order, but we think SOMEONE out there can come through for us. The site gets around 200 hits per day now, which is pretty low traffic as far as websites go, so it shouldn’t hurt your bandwidth. If you need us to link back to you somehow in an advertisement, we can certainly work something out, although we’d prefer not to plaster ads all over the site and ruin its look.

And finally, yes, we are aware of Geocities and the other “free” web space providers. We hate them and refuse to put News Askew there. Not only are they slow, but they limit your disk space and they make you puts ads all over the place. And they’re slow.

PLEASE HELP US! We’ll be your best friend. E-Mail us HERE to apply!

Kevin Vs. Rutgers II

October 22nd, 1997 @ 12:00 am | No Comments » | Scooped by Brad & Chris

  • Thanks to our pal Melissa and board regular HolyToads for letting us know that Kevin will be appearing at Rutgers NEW BRUNSWICK CAMPUS (Cook Campus Center) this Friday at 7 PM, doing the Chasing Amy screening and Q&A thing like he did at the Camden campus around a month ago (Read all about it here or in our wonderful Trips section on the left). If you missed the last one, DO NOT MISS THIS ONE! A fine time will certainly be had by all.

Here’s some additional info direct from Kim on the appearance:

I was informed by the student power’s that be that only those with RU ID will be admitted, should they have a larger-than-capacity turn out. Just as an example, they turned away about 30 people from the Rutger’s Camden campus, and that venue held approx. 750 people, this in cook college holds only 350 max.

Don’t say I didn’t warn you.

See you Friday!

A Better Place Comes To NYC Tomorrow!

October 22nd, 1997 @ 12:00 am | No Comments » | Scooped by Brad & Chris

  • Alas, we’re going to miss this, but it doesn’t mean you can’t go and give us a full report! Neil Juan Luis Pedro Philipo de Huevos tells us that plenty of tickets are still available for the scerening, which takes place at the Walter Reade Theatre. It hold 268 people, and there’s 200 left (most of which will be sold tomorrow, we’re sure). If you want to reserve tickets, call movie phone (777-FILM). If you want to reach the box office, their number is (212) 875-5601 after 2:00pm. Don’t miss your chance to catch this flick before all your friends AND support an up-and-coming director who’ll surely be able to buy and sell us someday! Right, Vinnie?
