Take A Visit To South Park…Before Wednesday!

August 11th @ 12:00 am | No Comments » | Scooped by Brad & Chris

Those Crazy South Park Kids

  • With Comedy Central’s upcoming rude, crude, TV-MA rated “South Park” premiering this Wednesday night at 10 (EST), we thought our fellow Askew fans might want to take a look at the short that set it all into motion. It’s a 5 minute animated short called “The Spirit Of Christmas”, only available through bootlegs (And a few special spots on the net!). Kevin really likes this show, so we figured that’s excuse enough to give you the info here. You may want to skip down to the next story if you’re easily offended but, then again, if you were you probably wouldn’t be here.

Just another show proving, as Kevin always says, the real money’s in dick and fart jokes.

Kevin Mentioned In “Filmmaker” Magazine…

August 10th @ 12:00 am | No Comments » | Scooped by Brad & Chris

  • Here’s a small blurb from an article from the Summer 1997 edition of Filmmaker magazine (the quote is from Michelle Byrd of IFP, an organization dedicated to independent filmmakers):
“Look at someone like Kevin Smith. He’s not wholly outside the mainstream. But he’s been extremely supportive of the organization. He’s the one filmmaker in the time that I’ve been at the IFP who I actually saw write a check to the IFP. He’s someone who’s realized that he went from knowing nobody to having a career, and now it’s important to give back. I think that spirit is actually what founded the IFP back in the ’70’s.”

Pretty flattering stuff! Check out their site here.

Mark Your Calendars!

  • Alright, so we don’t have the actual date yet, but we do know that Kevin will be back next year making another appearance at Atlanta’s DragonCon September 3-6, 1998 (according to their web page). Click here to see for yourself!

Get Yourself To “A Better Place”…

August 10th @ 12:00 am | No Comments » | Scooped by Brad & Chris

  • We got a really nice e-mail from Vincent Pereira today, the writer/director of the upcoming film “A Better Place”, and to our horror realized that we hadn’t mentioned it on the page yet! Sorry, Vincent. Anyway, here’s some info direct from View Askew on the film. You can also click the title to check out its Internet Movie Database entry (just like all the other flicks we mention on the page!):
A Better Place: The October Screening and the IFFM Apperance

Finally, all fans of fine film will finally be able to see Vincent “The Motivator” Pereira’s masterful film “A Better Place”. There will be an special screening on October 23rd, 6:30pm at the Walter Reade Theater in New York City. Tickets can be bought at the door for $8.00 each. Q & A with Vincent to follow the film.

A Better Place can also be seen at the upcoming IFFM playing at the Angelika Theater in New York City. Day passes can be purchased for $75 (est.).

From what we’ve read, this sounds like an excellent film, so if you have an opportunity, do look into seeing it after it’s released. Thanks again for the mail, Vincent! Can’t wait to see the movie!

And Now, Today’s Headlines…

August 9th @ 12:00 am | No Comments » | Scooped by Brad & Chris

  • This seemed to work well last time, and since nothing too major’s happened in the past few days, I thought I’d simply share a few odds and ends with you:
  • When asked on the Web Board if he planned to create a Bluntman & Chronic feature film, he again mentioned the B&C comic. So, for those of you who haven’t heard, you can probably expect this to happen, most likely sometime soon after the “Walt Flanagan’s Dog” comic hits the shelves.
  • I’ve been getting tons of e-mail from folks asking me where to get the Supes and Dogma scripts. For those of you looking for the place, it’s listed under our July archvies. Click HERE and we’ll take you right there. By the way, the place is called Pix Poster Cellar, and it seems they’vepleased many an Askew customer over the past few weeks.
  • Still no new Dogma casting news for you, unfortunately. Filming is still slated to begin in mid-February in Memphis.

Well, that’s all I could dig up. Remember to send us your scoops so we can get the news up as soon as possible, especially at times like this when there’s not too much going on.

Logo Contest Coming To An End…

August 8th @ 12:00 am | No Comments » | Scooped by Brad & Chris

  • Well folks, tonight’s the night that marks the end of our logo contest. Again, thanks to all of you who entered. We’ve really seen some greatsubmissions and, even if your logo isn’t the winner, we’re going to continue to look for custom graphics to keep the site fresh and set it apart from anything else out there. We hope you’ll be willing to come through again like you did for us this time. Some of your graphics may even end up elsewhere on the pages, just not as the logo (with your permission, of course!). Anyway, we’re going to announce our winner and modify the page sometime TONIGHT, so check back with us later!

By the way, hope we didn’t disappoint you with the lack of updates yesterday, there just wasn’t a whole hell of a lot going on.

We HAVE a WINNER!

August 8th @ 12:00 am | No Comments » | Scooped by Brad & Chris

  • Hey, we realize it’s been a long 2 months looking at that ugly text at the top of the screen but, finally the wait is over! Congratulations to our LOGO CONTEST WINNER, Jen! How did we choose our winner? Well, Jen’s graphic was funny, creative, AND it fit into the space we had at the top of the page. Just point your mouse to the graphic and you’ll notice a little window with Jen’s info appear either on the graphic or in your status bar (depending on what browser you’re using). In fact, Jen, we’ll put anything you want in that text area, just let us know! Also, everyone, be sure and try out the nifty new toolbar we stuck up there under the graphic. We had a few other outstanding entrys as well, and plan to use some elements from those graphics elsewhere on the page. Basically, look for some nice visual improvements to the page as time goes on, when we feel like actually changing stuff.

As for now, I’m heading out to have a few cocktails, so this is most likely gonna be it for today. Sorry, I didn’t have time to check up on news (or even do a good job writing THIS newsbite tonight), but we’ll be back with the latest stuff TOMORROW, most likely sometime in the afternoon (depending on how late I sleep).

Again, thanks to EVERYONE who entered the contest. You did us proud. See ya tomorrow!

  • I thought I’d try something a little different today, and fill you in on some of the not-so-monumental-but-still-important-because-it’s-Askew news in nice, small easy to digest portions. You might have missed some of this stuff, even if you are a regular web board reader. Here we go:
  • Kevin will be in Red Bank until September, when he goes to Europe to promote Chasing Amy, which, by the way, is making money hand over fist in Australia. Stop by the Stash and maybe you’ll catch a glimpse of him!
  • The only ANNOUNCED castings for Dogma so far: Ben Affleck as Bartleby and of course, our heroes Jay and Silent Bob as biblical prophets. Kev’s up to draft four of the script, and it’s still not final. We recommend you see the movie before reading the script, anyway.
  • Randy Bowen is rumored to be possibly sculpting some Askew characters, has expressed an interest in creating a Jay and Silent Bob sculpted magnet, along the lines of the Grendel and Hellboy magnets recently released by Bowen Designs.
  • “Name” will be the title of the film AFTER the film after Dogma. (Confused?). A new rumor hinted by Kev on the Dogma followup film will be “something of a return to 80’s yesteryear”. We’re still gonna go out on a limb and say an amusement park is somehow involved, as well.

Is This Site Fast Enough For You?

August 6th @ 12:00 am | No Comments » | Scooped by Brad & Chris

  • As the hit counter grows, and our little internet service provider seems to get slower with each passing day, we can’t help but wonder: Is this page loading fast for you? If things continue to grow as they have been (and we hope they do), it may be time for us to start soliciting for an alternate, faster server to move this page to. This is just looking towards the future, now, we’re happy where we are at the moment. But I’d be curious to know if you’re having serious slowness when you load our page.

A Special Thanks…

  • Tonight, this news page celebrated its 1,000th hit in just the 8th day since its resurfacing. We just wanted to take the opportunity to say thanks to View Askew (Especially Ming for the links and Kevin for the support), and especially thanks to all of you for continuing to visit us and write us. We plan on being around for a long time. Here’s to the next thousand!
