West Coast Kevin Smith Appearance…

December 20th @ 12:00 am | No Comments » | Scooped by Brad & Chris

  • Interested in meeting Kevin in person, but just a LITTLE too far from Red Bank, say, on the other coast or something? Well, wait no longer. Powrpopgrl writes to tell us that Kevin will be making a signing appearance at Golden Apple Comics in Los Angeles, CA, on February 21st. Bring your View Askew swag and have Kev personalize it for ya before your very eyes, and meet the man behind the classics. By the way, Golden Apple comics’ address is 7711 Melrose Ave, in LA!

VulgarThon Confirmation Cards Arrive!

December 20th @ 12:00 am | No Comments » | Scooped by Brad & Chris

  • Yesterday, when our friendly neighborhood postal worker dropped off an envelope with the View Askew logo on the front, we knew JUST what it was! Our Vulgarthon Confirmation Cards. Not only have we got the card here, but also a nifty map and all kinds of detailed instructions on how to get the shirts, where to go and when, where to eat, where to sleep, etc. The gang’s really done a great job getting this all together. Kudos, guys! Anyone who’s never been to town before should have no problem finding there way in. Now PARKING, that’s another story…

News Askew Crosses 40,000!

December 20th @ 12:00 am | No Comments » | Scooped by Brad & Chris

  • Wow…Another milestone for us. Gramp mailed us (he was hit 40,002) to let us know that we crossed another barrier. 40,000+ hits and still crankin’ out the news! Thanks to all of you for making this possible and keeping the News Askew & Drinks Askew counters climbing. 50,000 can’t be far off now…We’d like to make it before VulgarThon, but that’s a pretty tall order!

Editorial…

On a final note, we’re both going to be very busy around the holidays, so please bear with us during this time. Updates may not come as quickly as we’d like, but as always we’ll stay as current as we possibly can. Your scoops are important as ever, and really do help us get the news up quickly and easily.

We’d also like to thank Nolan Reese for mentioning us in the latest edition of NQZine.

Finally, Pocketwatch wrote us to let us know that his Superman Lives artwork project is still alive over at Art Askew, althouh Erik’s updates have been a bit slow lately. The series will go to about 30 pictures, and the 3rd should be up anytime now. We still admire this project and recommend you check it out if you haven’t done so yet.

See ya next time!

People Online Poll…

December 18th @ 12:00 am | No Comments » | Scooped by Brad & Chris

  • People Magazine is having an online poll to determine the 100 most influential people of 1997 and, the last time we checked, Kevin was number 87. Vote here if you want to help move him up in the standings!

You can see the current standings here, although seeing Hanson on top of the list is pretty unsettling, but at least we’re ahead of both Tom Cruise and Julia Roberts!

Thanks to Chris Miller for helping us get Kevin in the running.

Kevin Resurfaces On The Board…

December 18th @ 12:00 am | No Comments » | Scooped by Brad & Chris

  • Kevin posted one of his catch-ups on the board yesterday, that covers quite a few topics of interest, namely the MTV Shorts with Jay & Bob, the Coke ad, and the Golden Globe story you probably just read above:
Sorry I haven’t been around much, but it’s been busy around here.

Last weekend, we shot eight Jay and Silent Bob shorts for Mtv. We had fun (except Scott, who’s always stuck with getting this silliness organized), and captured what we all felt was some funny-ass shit on film. There’s a great Steve-Dave and Walt appearance, as well as the introduction of Jay’s (Askewniverse) sister, and an answer for anybody who ever wondered what happened to Mister Svenning’s assistant, Roddy.

Props to good Will Hunting himself (our boy Matty) who made the trek to Jersey last weekend to turn in yet another Oscar-worthy performance.

They won’t air until Feb/March, but we may have some early stuff for you guys to see up here in late January.

Straight from that, I’ve been knee-deep in the Coke ad. We shoot this weekend, at the Central Park Zoo, of all places.

I’m told ‘Amy’ was the first runner-up in both the LA and Boston Critics Cirlce Awards, and the second or third runner-up in New York. To me, this meant little (I don’t think runner-ups get certificates of any kind), but it seems to mean a great deal to Miramax – they feel it bodes well for the flick in terms of the Golden Globes (which are announced Thursday) and the Oscars (which are announced in Feb).

Rumor has it that Joey’s got a strong chance of getting nominated for a Golden Globe (the Hollywood Foreign PressAssociation – the folks who sponsor the Golden Globes – was absolutely in love with her).

Miramax ran its first-ever ‘For Your Consideration’ ad on our behalf last week in Variety. Needless to say, it’s being framed.

Meanwhile, Vulgarthon confirmation cards went out this week. Most – if not all – of you good people who secured tickets should be seeing them in your mailbox pretty soon.

To confirm suspicions aired here last week, Holden McNeil is indeed involved with Emma… so to speak.

And I’m happy to report that the ‘Good Will Hunting’ screenplay is available from Miramax books. Pick it up – it is – hands-down – the best screenplay of the year.

I probably won’t be around much over the next few days, so please try to behave in my absence.

Just think – in a little over two weeks, this board’s going to be more devoid of posts than perhaps even the first day on its inception.

Alright, you heard the man. Behave! And post some good stuff up there on the board. I’m sure that stuff like Vulgarthon and the beginning of Dogma’s filming will definitely have the board flooded with posts again, with or without Kev around. Always nice to see him back, though.

However, with the lack of posts & news lately, our jobs have certainly been easier!

Golden Globe Nominations…

December 18th @ 12:00 am | No Comments » | Scooped by Brad & Chris

‘Good Will Hunting’ got nominations galore. Ben and Matt for screenplay, Matt for peformance, Robin for performance, the flick itself for best picture.

But the BIG news is a certain squeaky-voiced actress…

Joey got nominated for Best Actress in a Comedy or Musical.

I feel very proud.

It’s a nice way to end the Year of Askew.

And VulgarThon’s gonna be a great way to kick off the next “Year Of Askew”! 17 days and counting…

Thanks to Gramp for keeping us informed on all the Golden Globe stuff, as well.

Good Will Hunting 4th…

December 15th @ 12:00 am | No Comments » | Scooped by Brad & Chris

  • Okay, we KNOW this is really late AND that we decided to cut back on the GWH news, but this is pretty exciting stuff. “Good Will Hunting” not only took 4th place in The National Board of Review’s top 10 films this year, but also the “Special Achievement in Filmmaking” award. This is definitely quite an award for Matt & Ben, and we send our (belated) congratulations!

Dave Bednar and Frank Caira get scooper’s honors for this one.
