  • Newsrama has some news today about Kevin’s upcoming comic stints.
DC also confirmed published reports that filmmaker and soon-to-be- DAREDEVIL writer KEVIN SMITH will be taking over the monthly GREEN ARROW title sometime in the future. According to the title’s editor Darren Vincenzo, “Kevin will be coming on as regular writer starting with issues shipping late this year or early next year. He has committed to an extended period (not just a mini or a single arc) and has great plans for a new era in the lives of the Green Arrow(S).We will be laying some seeds for what is to come in GREEN ARROW #1,000,OO0 and the issues preceding it.”
“Kissing a Fool” is a funny, intelligently written romantic comedy. David Schwimmer plays a womanizing Chicago sports anchor who is set up by his best friend (Jason Lee), an author, with his editor, played by newcomer Mili Avital. They hit it off immediately and within just a few weeks are engaged to be married. As the wedding day looms, the groom (Schwimmer) starts questioning whether his bride-to-be will be able to remain faithful. Enter the major plot point. He tries to convince his best friend (Lee) to put the moves on her to test her faithfulness and the movie takes off from there as the three characters explore there feelings for each other.

The performances by all three of the leads were terrific. Schwimmer was perfectly cast as basically an endearing asshole and provides some of the film’s funniest moments. Milli Avital is beautiful, intelligent and completely believable as someone guys would make fools out of themselves over. Jason Lee? Well, Jason Lee is just the shit. For those of you who, like me, thought he was great in his Kevin Smith films, it’s just cool to see him get this kind of role in a mainstream comedy. He’s the sensitive guy in the story so he gets to show some range while still being really funny. I think this could be the sort of breakout performance that will really broaden his choice of roles in the future. Props are also in order for director Doug Ellin. For someone with little or no feature experience he showed a remarkably sure hand and a wonderful sense of timing.

The film was actually made without a distributor in place for only 3.5million dollars. Universal picked it up for a song so they have the potential of really making out on this investment if they market it right. Hopefully, folks will give this movie a shot, I think they’ll be pleasantly suprised if they do.

  • This scoop comes in from Chris Rupp’s Comics [419-334-4959] about another comic convention appearance by Kevin :
