July 16th @ 12:00 am | No Comments » | Scooped by Mike Lenzlinger & Jackrum

  • Man, you folks are NUTS! The Mallrats script was stuck at 20 bucks for a few days…We mention it and what do ya do? You drive it up to $120! The seller’s gotta be pleased with that one…Hope whomever gets it enjoys the thing.
  • Rock In Time & Dogma In VF…

July 15th @ 12:00 am | No Comments » | Scooped by Christine, Eleanor Howell, Ken Liang

  • Chris Rock appears in the latest issue of Time Magazine, and Dogma gets a nice mention. You can read the piece right HERE. Kevin’s quoted as well, plus there’s the obligatory Matt & Ben mention.

Rock also appears on the cover of August’s Vanity Fair. Kevin is quoted: “It’s felt from time to time in our discussions like he’s doing material,” says the director Kevin Smith, who spent the spring directing Rock in his film Dogma. “Sometimes I interrupt him and say, ‘Are you on right now? Am I an audience?'”

George Carlin, who is noted as working with Chris in Dogma, is also quoted.

The article also says: “He chose to work with Kevin Smith on Dogma, he says, because Smith’s previous film, Chasing Amy, was ‘the first original romantic comedy in 15 to 20 years, the first not to be a retread of Annie Hall.'”

Finally, the article says Dogma is out this December (which we’re learning is probably not true, at least at this point.)

  • Oni Gets More Press…

    July 15th @ 12:00 am | No Comments » | Scooped by Aug

  • We’ve got a couple more bits on Oni Press for you, all good stuff, as usual. The first is from Axcess Magazine and the second from the summer edition of CSN:
With no fanfare, giant spaceships or silicon masks to back him, the bear of the comic book industry, Bob Schreck, is back. The jovial, bitter, high weirdness he lent to Dark Horse is now fully unleashed at Oni Press, as he brings Bill Sienkewicz, Neil Gaiman, Paul Pope, Matt Wagner, and upcomers Troy Nixey and Scott Morse with him-plus a slightly know industry outsider, Kevin Smith, the Chasing Amy dude. The CLERKS spin-off book is, if anything, funnier than its original, and you should hunt down the “Jay and Silent Bob”story without wasting a second before some aging hipster scalps the last one out from under your nose.

      —————-

The not-quite-stars of…well, every film from Kevin Smith, return in their own original series. Jay & Silent Bob not only stands on its own, but also serves as a sequel and a prequel all in one. This limited series picks up at the end of Chasing Amy, with our dynamic duo getting on a bus and heading out of town, and when all is said and done, the story ends at the exact point where the characters make their first appearance in the upcoming film, Dogma. What a package! (Jun – Aug $2.95)

  • What’s This New Board Gonna Be Like?

    July 15th @ 12:00 am | No Comments » | Scooped by Mike, Holytoads, Ryan, & Ming

  • Glad you asked. Thanks to our scoopers, we had a chance to beta test the new View Askew WWWBoard, which you’ll see online tomorrow or Friday at the latest. The deal is this: You signup with a UNIQUE e-mail address and screen name (yes, this means there can only be ONE “Kevin”, ONE “Ben Affleck”, etc…Your name will be YOUR name and no one else can use it. This is VERY cool). Other than that, the rules and appearance are the same. Special celebrity posters will have their names appear in red text for easy spotting (for those of you that just like to cruise the board and read the celeb posts). Anyway, we really like it, and think you will, too. It will totally eliminate the problem of impostors, and hopefully at least eliminate some of the useless posting as well. And it’s totally FREE, as always. Look for it soon. By the way, we’ll be posting as “Brad” & “Chris” on the new board, if for some crazy reason we need to vent on the board as well as here!
  • Want A Mallrats Shooting Script?

    July 15th @ 12:00 am | No Comments » | Scooped by Christine

  • There’s an actual shooting script for Mallrats up for auction on an online site up for auction! Click HERE to place your bid! Last we checked, the thing was a steal at 21 and change. It’s not signed or anything, but it’s a proven script used on the actual set of the movie! A collector’s item, for certain. Good luck!

  • Kevin Resurfaces…

    July 14th @ 12:00 am | No Comments » | Scooped by Brad & Chris

    • Mr. Smith popped onto the famous WWWBoard in what’s becoming a less regular, but always welcome tradition…He took the time to answer a few queries, comments, and attacks, and finsihed off with this summarizing post of what he’s been up to lately. See for yourself:
“There’s nothing appetizing about the boiled head of a Cambodian teenager.”

One of Carlin‘s best lines from the other night.

Me, Scott, Jen, and Monica met up with Rock and his lady in Atlantic City over the weekend to catch George’s show (a mixed bag of classic bits and new material he’s gathering for his February HBO show). During one old routine (‘People I Can Do Without’), he says “Guys over fifteen who wear there hats backwards…” And then, as an aside, he throws in “Kevin, you’re off the hook for this one.” Made my fucking month, I can tell you. If you get a chance, see the show. It’s great stuff.

Saw ‘Lethal Weapon 4’ last night. I enjoyed it 800% more than ‘Lethal Weapon 3’. I thought Chris did a great job, and Jet Li was mesmirizing (anyone know some other flicks he’s been in that’re available in this country?).

The editing continues to go well. Short of that, there’s not much in the way of news.

As always, thanks for hanging out.

    >From what I understand, the new board goes into effect pretty soon. And guess what? It doesn’t involve any charges.

Hmmm…New board? We’ll try and find out more. The last attempt at the new board used too much overhead and slowed everything down, and apparently the $10 idea (which we liked, actually) has been scrapped. We’ll keep you in the know as soon as we know.

A Better Place Back In The Media…

    July 14th @ 12:00 am | No Comments » | Scooped by Brian Lynch

    A Better Place

    • Lollipop Magazine issue #44 (Summer 1998) has a reprint of Mike McCarthy’s “Interview Askew” with Vincent, which you’ll find on pages 100-104. It includes some quite nice pictures, and even warrants a mention on the front cover (A BETTER PLACE’S Vincent Pereira). You can visit their website HERE. Also, don’t forget that the most recent issue of MOVIEMAKER has a piece about the Flixtour and A BETTER PLACE is prominantly featured – the eye-catching one-sheet is even reprinted in the article. Be sure and get a copy.

    Son Of Vance Info…

    July 13th @ 12:00 am | No Comments » | Scooped by Brad & Chris

    • You want more info on Brian Lynch‘s next project that we mentioned yesterday? You got it! We asked Brian a few questions, and got a TON of info outta the guy. He says:
The repeating cast members are as follows-

Brian Quinn, who played Vance in BHD, reprises his role. He also plays a SECOND role, but I can’t get into that just yet. Top secret, you understand…

Lorene Scafaria, who was Chastity, repeats that role as well.

Kevin Crimmins and Nick Giovennetti, who frightened small children as the Grips in BHD, are also back. As the Grips…kinda…you’ll see.

Freddy Bender also comes back. He too kinda sorta plays the same role, in way…you’ll have to see the damn thing.

Returning cast members who aren’t playing the same part as follows-

JJ North (The Cool-Ass Buxom Woman from BHD, also the lead actor in such b classics as ATTACK OF THE FIFTY FOOT CENTERFOLD and BIKINI HOTEL, both of which are on at any time after two am on HBO) is our female lead in this one. Kinda the villian, actually. Rehearsed with her yesterday, she was incredible.

Michael Linstroth, who played Ray Cross, the lead’s best friend in BHD, plays TWO roles in SOV. The first is that of a horny scientist, the other is a drunken frat boy.

Matt Kawczynski, who was the lead in BHD, tackles the role of another drunken frat boy.

Vincent Pereira, the Cigarette Fairy from BHD, is a scientist, as is Bryan Johnson (Jesus Christ in BHD).

And though I wasn’t really in BHD, I am in SOV, as the third (and best looking) frat boy. Actually, all the frat boys are characters from ANOTHER script I wrote, EVERYBODY’S DEAD, so in essence this damn short is a spin off of two projects. It’s kinda confusing, aint it?

And we’ve got a couple of surprise cameos that you’ll enjoy, but I would like to keep them under wraps right now.

The plot? Well, did you see SPECIES? So did we. This one kinda takes it to the next level, if you will. Or knocks it down a couple of levels, I don’t know yet. Same kinda balls-out humor as BHD. We’re operating with the ad-line “Mating Season Just Got Ugly”.

This is actually the first in a series of planned shorts with these group of actors and behind the scenes people. Let me tell you, if I can only work with these guys for the rest of my life I’ll die a happy man. It’s a good life.

Sounds like another exciting one, folks. We’re making an effort to get some first-hand coverage on this one for ya so we can have all the dirt (at least, the dirt we’re allowed to print without spoiling anything). And before you ask, yes, we realize Big Helium Dog isn’t out yet, but it’ll be nice to have all this stuff to see at the ‘thons and as partof the Criterion Special Edition Big Helium Dog deluxe laserdisc/DVD that’s sure to come out of all of this. But we digress…You’ll definitely see this stuff soon. We’ll have all the details.
