  • A scooper checks in with this advanced review of “Enemy Of The State” from AICN…It contains a heavy spoiler or two regarding Mr. Lee, so swoop the hidden text at your own risk to read them!
Last night in Phoenix AZ I attended the test screening for Enemy of the State staring Will Smith and Gene Hackman. I’m going to tell you everything I know, and then, I’ll have to disapear for a while, so that no one will find me. They already canceled my credit cards, and started to discredit me in the press….Oh, but I’ll get them back I will!

The movie we were shown was a work print. However, I can say honestly that I feel this film would be much differnet from the final cut. Most, if not all, of the effects shots were in, and the score seemed appropiate. That is to say, it didn’t have the feel of a “temp” track. Some of it actually worked in places! The editing, however, seemed a little choppy and the physical quality of the film (lots of cracks and black marks) seemed a little off, but other than that, I think I saw what actually would be the release. With that being said, on to the reivew!

The film starts off with a CIA stlye murder of a Senator. This Senator opposes something called the Telecommunications Privacy and Security Act. Well, John Voight, (Senator Reynolds), is really in favor of this act (which is supposed to strip all privacy away from the populace) and when he can’t convince the other sentator…He and some National Security Agency goons kill this poor senator and dump him and his car in the lake where they were talking. Sound interesting yet?

Well, it just so happens that Jason Lee had a camera stashed down at the lake filming wildlife for some Government Agency. He goes down there to pick up his film, and some NSA goon sees him do it. Obvious secuirty leak right, since they made the Senators death look like a suicide.

The NSA positively id’s ole Mr. Lee, tap his phones and when he figures out what he has on his tapes, he calls his friend in a Left Wing magazine. Well, the NSA show up with Goons and a technical support Survelience team (including Randy from Scream!) and they chase him around the city, which ends with him getting creamed by a Firetruck. Now, before he gets creamed he passes a copy of the tape off to Will Smith, who unknowningly takes it home. Sound interesting yet?

We’ll buy our tickets for a Tony Scott film any ‘ol day of the week! See you at the movies…
