Stern & Virgin Megastore Tomorrow…

July 19th @ 12:00 am | No Comments » | Scooped by Brad & Chris

  • As if you didn’t already know (been sleeping under a rock or something?), Kevin will be tearing up the Big Apple tomorrow with an appearance on the Howard Stern Radio Show (of which we’re big fans, so we always enjoy it when Kev brings his charm to the show and plays off the guy), as well as a Mallrats DVD signing appearance at the Virgin Megastore in Union Square.

No official time has been given for the Stern show appearance at this pont – Even if it were, things work a bit erratically around there, anyway, and even if there WERE a time chances are it would change a bit. We’ve seen guests come in as early as 7:00 AM, but we’re betting Kev will be in the studio somewhere between 8:00 and 9:00 AM. Tuning in from 7-9 wouldn’t be a bad idea, though. We hear Kev might even share his Chevy Chase horror stories with Howard and the crew, which fans of the show know that he’ll just LOVE.

The Virgin Megastore is a whole new confusion that we’re hoping to clear up. Some outlets reported the signing would be at TIMES SQUARE, but all sources we have say UNION SQUARE. So, make sure you’re at the right place! The event’s scheduled to start at noon and run until 3 PM. We have no idea if a cap will be placed on the line, but it can happen, so arrive early, and don’t forget you’ll need a copy of Mallrats on DVD or VHS (and up to 1 other VA item) to get the signature!

Many of you have asked, but we’re sorry, we just can’t get out of our day jobs to make it into the city for the event tomorrow. We know for a fact that Kevin will be there along with DVD producers JM Kenny and Vincent Periera — No idea who, if anyone else, will be tagging along (Jay or Scott, for example).

Have a great time, and we’ll of course be back with full coverage of all this stuff tomorrow here at NA.

  • Howdy-ho folks. Since the “Fight Club” trailer is playing in theaters (with the film opening up mid-October), we HOPE that, once Dogma announces the official Dogma distributor (we STILL assume Lion’s Gate), we’d expect a trailer in theaters VERY soon! With how slick the rough trailer looks, as many of you have seen, there’s no doubt in our minds that the interest in the film will grow a TON with the general moviegoing public, as well as those of you die-hard fans who’ve yet to see the trailer. Hope you VA and Lion’s Gate folks are listening…Get that trailer out there ASAP!

Now that we’ve got THAT settled, we’ve got some clarification for the events surrounding Kevin’s big day tomorrow, with the Howard Stern appearance AND the Mallrats DVD signing, as well as some nifty NewsBites, and a few more words (both good AND bad) on the Chicago Con.

  • Jim Mahfood (Clerks comics/TV show artist extraordinaire) will be signing at the Vancouver Comicon this Sunday, July the 18th, from 11-5. It’s at the Heritage hall at 3102 Main Street.
  • “Clerks” will be showing in Dallas, at the Landmark Inwood theatre, this Friday and Saturday night. Get out of that blistering Texas heat and watch a classic flick!
  • The very cool Cinescape Online posted an advanced review of Jason Lee’s new flick, “Mumford”. The guy REALLY dug it, too, giving the flick an A- overall. The review is spoiler free, so do surf over if you’d like to check it out.

Wizard World Wrapup Starts…

  • A few scoopers have already checked in with their reports from the first day at Wizard World. We’ve even got some pics from BEFORE the thing opened to the public! Cool, huh? Anyway, most of what Kev’s been saying is stuff we’ve reported here before…The Mallrats sequel comic, the Bartelby and Loki one-shot, and the usual stories that he shares at apperances (because usually the same questions just seem to keep coming up whereever the man goes!)…But he DID reveal that Dogma does indeed HAVE a distributor, and an announcement is forthcoming. Read all about it, and more, at our new Wizard World Wrapup Extravaganza (which will be updated continually as the con progresses!).

Clerks DVD Postponed…

  • Alright, it’s a little late, and we’re running outta steam, but here we are! We’re sure all of you are excited to hear about what’s been happening at Wizard World thus far, and we’ve got the info right here. Also, a few bits and pieces of info for you to add to the calendar, among other things. We hope to be making an announcement on Sunday about our next big event here at the site (there’s actually a few in the works, believe it or not), AND the move to the new server WILL begin this weekend. We HOPE to make it totally transparent to you, basically meaning you won’t even be able to tell when the move takes place. Fear not, we plan NO downtime from this at all. All the work will be on our end, and done behind the scenes.

Caught “Lake Placid” tonight, figuring it’d be fun – It was almost, well…too placid. Hopefully “Eyes Wide Shut” will be more of a jaw dropper when we catch it on Sunday.

Alright, let’s hit it.

  • While it probably won’t mean the difference on whether they distribute Dogma or not, it seems that Lions Gate expects a major financial loss this year. Maybe this is why we’re seeing a delay in their announcement, if they indeed DID require the film? Read the news HERE.
  • One of our scoopers was so enraged at the way that his Clerks DVD was handled, he set up a Buy.com boycott page!

  • As a followup to his DareDevil concept poster yesterday, Frank’s done his best to recreate a theatrical Domga posterthat looks like one he saw in a Miramax office at Cannes. Interesting…

IMPORTANT Signing Update…

July 15th @ 12:00 am | No Comments » | Scooped by Flack150 & Steve Cohn

  • The Village Voice clarifies some details on Kevin’s Mallrats DVD signing next Tuesday. This is very important, as it seems that you will need to buy a copy of Rats on DVD or VHS in order to even receive a pass to stand in line. This may seem a bit unfair, but let’s face it, NYC’s a big place, and Kev’s a pretty popular guy. The lines will probably be amazingly long even with this stipulation, let alone WITHOUT. We know that Kevin always does his best to accomodate everyone, and would probably sign anything for anyone if possible, but the store and/or the city itself is most likely using these tactics to keep things under control, as well as to make the signing period run for the scheduled time only.
Kevin will only sign copies of Mallrats on DVD or on VHS along with one additional item.

They are charging $28.99 for DVD and $14.95 for VHS.

To meet Kevin Smith, pre-purchase your copy of Mallrats on DVD or purchase the VHS beginning Friday, July 16 at 9:00AM at Union Square and receive your pass to attend the signing.

Limited space available.

So there ya go, grab your copy of Mallrats and your pass to meet Kev & co. starting TOMORROW! And choose that “one additional item” wisely.

Wizard World Schedule…

July 15th @ 12:00 am | No Comments » | Scooped by Brad & Chris

  • Kim was kind enough to post ALL of the details on where and when to find Kev at Wizard World, starting tomorrow. This sounds like a FANTASTIC Con, it’s a shame we’re not closer or we’d be there!
Fri. 7/16:
Noon – 12:45 Kev signs by the fountain (I have NO IDEA what they mean, look for a big fountain I guess, Kev should be nearby…)
1-1:45 PM VA Panel
2-3 PM At Marvel booth signing with Joe and Jimmy
6:00 PM Wizard Fan Awards

Sat. 7/17:
Noon – 12:45 is that fountain thing again
1-1:45 PM Marvel Knights Panel
4-5 PM At Marvel booth signing w/ Joe and Jimmy

Sun. 7/18:
11-11:45 AM, again with the fountain…
12-12:45 PM Oni/Graphitti Panel

I would assume that Kevin will be strolling around the convention floor during his non-scheduled time, I mean someone’s gotta carry all of Mewes’ statues and stuff…

Be sure and send us your photos and on site reports from the event. Even though we can’t be there ourselves, we’ll do our best to be your up-to-the-minute source on all the fun View Askew stuff happening at Wizard World.

  • Got some important and interesting stuff going on today, some major, some minor, but all News Askew!

Also, we just wanted to take a minute and give major kudos to the gang that puts together South Park at Comedy Central. After a pretty lame showing last week, they came back strong with last night’s all new episode — Not only did it break the traditional South Park formula for the first time (by airing an all-Cartman episode), the show also featured a Wild Wild West bit whose opening 10 seconds were more entertaining than the entire WWW film, a recurring “Aliens” gag, and even a moderately obscure Pink Floyd reference! It didn’t seem like the show would EVER be as funny after the movie took things to the next level, but as long as Matt & Trey have stuff like last night’s show left in them, we’ll be tuning in.
