- Variety & Cinescape online, two very reliable sources, are both reporting that Ben Affleck is indeed close to signing on as the new Jack Ryan character. This would be the third Ryan to hit the silver screen, with the first two being, of course, Alec Baldwin and Harrison Ford. If Affleck does indeed commit, the next film, “The Sum Of All Fears†will be fasttracked and begin production as soon as this Fall. It would certainly be interesting to see how the film plays out, as all of Clancy’s books have seemingly been written for an older Jack Ryan character. Affleck’s youth may either throw off the franchise or bring in an entirely new audience and a long line of follow-ups. We’ll keep our eyes on this one.
