- That’s right, folks, an original, signed script from Kevin’s new short that debuted at the Concert For New York City last week. This is one of the few (if the only) scripts that exists for this short, and, even better, it’s been personally signed by Kevin Smith. Right now, Ebay is auctioning off this rare item, complete with signature and a traditional self deprecating note (”It’s not worth the paper its printed on but…”). 100% of the proceeds from the this sale will benefit the victims and their families from the September 11th tragedy through the Robin Hood Relief Fund which will support many New York based relief agencies including the Twin Towers Fund set up by Mayor Guiliani to support the families of the firefighters, police officers and rescue workers who lost their lives. Not only will your bid get you a great item, but it’s for an excellent cause. Happy bidding, and good luck!

Kevin’s IU Appearance – A Summary…
- We’d love to attend every one of these appearances, and we’re sure a lot of you would as well, but sometimes that just can’t be the case — So, when that happens, it’s nice to know that we can receive some excellent summaries, like this one of Kevin’s recent appearance at Indiana University. Here’s that fan write-up, which includes the revelation that Ben Affleck should indeed star in Jersey Girl, which will begin filming in June 2002.
Kevin’s Q&A session Friday night was the best night of entertainment I’ve ever had. He got up there and talked for four hours, answered just about everyone’s question, and had to be practically dragged off-stage so they could close the building.
The overall feeling that I got at the end of the night was that Kevin Smith LOVES his fans. The Union Board was trying to get everyone out of the building so they could close, and Kevin wouldn’t leave. They had written in the program that Kevin would sign autographs after the show, but when they announced it at 11, everyone booed the poor usher off the mike. We were having too much fun, and Kevin explained that he wanted to keep going with questions.
Some of the highlights of the night:
Kevin had a great entrance. The orchestra pit raises and lowers, so they put Kevin at the bottom, and raised it up right after they introduced him.
He looked a little bit nervous at first, playing with his water bottle, and looking down at the podium. But then he made a rim job joke, and then everything was cool.
Apparently Affleck will be in Jersey Girl. Kevin said that they would be shooting in June now, instead of April to accomodate his star, who wanted “to put on red tights”.
He told a half hour story about his adventures doing a documentary about Prince. Let me tell you, I would travel any distance, go through any ordeal, pay any amount of money, to hear Kevin tell his Prince story just one more time. That was the best part of the night.
Jason Mewes called during the session. Kevin had his cell phone up on the podium, and it rang. He picks it up, and tells whoever’s on the phone to relay that information himself. He holds the phone up to the mike and an unmistakable voice says “Whazzup!!!” Then he tells Jason we’re in Indiana, in reply Jason says “Where’s that Indiana ass?!!?!”
He told the Dogma protest story again, as well as how he got to know Jason Mewes. He also revealed that If he could be any Star Wars character he would be Han Solo, and if as that character he could fuck anyone else, he would fuck Han Solo.
He also tried to get a guy his job back at a local restaurant. The guy told Kevin that he had quit his job so that he could be at the event, and Kevin asked him if he wanted him to call his boss to try to smooth things over. So he asked the guy to e-mail him the phone number, and everyone starts yelling for him to “Call them now!” So he’s got the cell phone there and the guy comes up on stage and calls, so Kevin talks to this lady and is like “3200 people think this guy should get his job back” Then he holds the phone away from his ear like he’s getting yelled at. Then he asks the guy, “Were you doing bad at your job?” and the guy says “No, I just showed up drunk to work tonight.” Kevin says “That information would have been useful a few minutes ago.”
Also we got a glimpse of J.M. Kenny, Director of the Dogma DVD, who was there giving direction, and Kevin introduced.
There was tons more stuff that he talked about, but obviously not everything is going to fit in here. The one thing I did want to mention was that as I was walking out, there was a line in the lobby leading up to a big table, supposedly for autographs. And I heard one of the ushers saying “Kevin Smith will not be signing autographs tonight.” People were irate, not at Kevin, because he explained on stage that he wouldn’t be giving autographs, but at the people running the event, who obviously had no clue what was going on. They could have easily told the people in line that Kevin would not be signing autographs.
But a great event, and I’m sure the DVD will look great and have plenty of material to work with (including a shot of me, in my Highway Infinity T-shirt that they took while I was sitting in the crowd)
