- Kevin was the auctioneer for Marvel’s “Heroes†auction in New York City last night (he’s jumping coasts like a madman!) and all went quite well. Here’s a report from someone who was there and had a blast:
You did a wonderful job this evening at the auction. I realize this is a public billboard. Does everyone know that Kevin Smith came to New York this evening to be an auctioneer for drawings and paintings from Marvel’s Heroes Publication? “Heroes†commemorates the rescue workers and their efforts during the World Trade Center Disaster.
I’m still trying to figure out how the estimated price of the piece you bought was $250? It makes the ultimate visual statement, beautifully rendered (The image, a painting by Brian Stelfreeze, is the appearance out of the carnage of the helmetted insulated firefighter outstretching his hand down toward the viewer. A saviour!)
Yes, folks, on January 17th, 2002, the auctioneer became bidder who ultimately sold and bought, contributing many more thousands of dollars to the Twin Towers Fund, and then staying around to sign autographs and speak with everyone who wanted to say hello to him.
I’m proud to have met Kevin Smith.
Congrats and thanks to Marvel and all who participated for their charitable efforts.
