  • Howdy folks — Well, it’s looking to be a historic weekend at the box office – Spidey took in around $41 million bucks in ONE DAY ALONE (Friday), and shows were still selling out on Saturday, so this one’s looking to break records all over the place. And rightfully so, it may very well be the best flick made about a comic book superhero EVER. Sam Raimi is the man. Let’s hope he takes some of his inevitable bonus cash and makes Evil Dead 4! While Spidey’s only got 2 weeks until Star Wars, it doesn’t seem that’s gonna hurt, as most fans of both flicks will see it before Episode II graces the big screen. Speaking of which, we’re hearing that Star Wars celebration thing going on this weekend is incredible!

Aside: If we’ve got any readers in Japan or anyone who’s got access, I’m looking for stuffed versions of that Domo-kun thing. They’re practically impossible to find around here (though if you have an Urban Outfitters they may have some left) — If anyone’s got access to these things, let me know.

We’ve actually got quite a bit on the scoop front to catch up on today, so let’s take a look!

  • Comedy Central has started to promote “Dogma” as part of their summer movie lineup. It airs on Sunday, May 26th and will likely continue to air all summer long and then some. It’ll be interesting to see how this one’s cut up, as Kevin’s films always seem to get butchered for TV. Speaking of which…
  • One of the greatest examples of TV butchery, the “Mallrats” TV version, will once again air on FX network on Friday, May 24 – 12:00 PM EST/PST. If you’ve never caught this one, don’t miss it.
  • Entertainment Weekly stuff: This week, Owen Gleiberman butchered Vulgar with an “F” review in the issue. As Johnson’s always said, any press is good press, and he’s more scared of the folks who LOVE the flick, but the review was still rather harsh. The issue also features the article on Marvel and DC from Kevin that we posted last update, and mentions his hosting duties on The Star Wars Fan Film Awards on the Sci-Fi channel at 8 to 9 on Sunday, May 12.
  • Jay’s Rap is featured in another View Askew web comic tribute at the Movie Comics website.
  • Actor/Director Jon Favreau talks Daredevil, Elf, and a little bit on Jay & Bob in this interview/article.

  • To promote their release of the series “Golden Boy” on DVD, ADV Films has launched a website that’s a fictional journal of the lead character’s exploits, and called it “Chasing America” – The splash image is a take on the classic Chasing Amy LD/DVD cover. You can also download it as desktop wallpaper in the “Notes” section.

  • Speaking of wallpaper, Mike has created this excellent Jay & Bob Desktop wallpaper that would look great on any desktop. Grab it HERE.
