They mention Clerks being a great and acclaimed film and that Kevin publicly apologized for Mallrats. Later in the story, they give him praise for his directing ability.
- Nicolags Cage mentioned Kevin’s Superman script briefly this morning when he made a surprise appearance on The Howard Stern Show:
by Bob Gough
Nicolas Cage says he isn’t playing Superman because Kevin Smith’s script “would have been too expensive,†he told The Howard Stern Show.
The actor and then-director Tim Burton had “a great rapport,†Cage added. Cage surprised Stern by showing up at the studio during an interview with Chris Rock, who was to play Jimmy Olsen in the film.
Also, Cage said he turned down the role of Green Goblin in Spider-Man because he was offered a role in Adaptation by director Spike Jonez. “I was on an art track. I didn’t want to do a big blockbuster then.â€
Cage was promoting Windtalkers, the John Woo-directed film about Navaho code-talkers in World War II which opens June 14. Rock was promoting Bad Company, the spy action film directed by Joel Schumacher and co-starring Anthony Hopkins, which opens tomorrow.
When Stern asked Rock if he thought Schumacher ruined the Batman movie franchise, the comedian/actor replied “Like it was that great of a movie before?â€
This is the first time we recall seeing expense issues as the reason Kev’s script was tossed – Interesting. Thanks to Dynamic Forces for the story.
