Latest On Jersey Girl From The Inquirer…

September 2nd @ 10:12 pm | No Comments » | Scooped by Robert Getz

  • The Philly Inquirier yet again checks in with a couple new stories on Jersey Girl:
‘Jersey Girl’ update

Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck were looking for a little luck last weekend, just before shooting started on Jersey Girl. On Saturday, the stars and respective retinues were helicoptered into Trump Marina in Atlantic City, where he hit a blackjack table and she a roulette wheel before all retired to suites. Plural. They helicoptered out Sunday.

Who is the “girl” of Jersey Girl? She’s newcomer Raquel Castro, 7, a Long Islander who shot her first scenes Thursday and Friday in Paulsboro, with Affleck, who plays her father, and George Carlin, who’s her grandfather. (Though J. Lo. had no scenes Friday, she showed up. Such devotion!) Filmmaker Kevin Smith and company will be here for 10 more weeks.

Read it at their official site HERE.

Also, a bit off topic…

A mystery unfolds on the Paulsboro set

While adoring fans screamed for Ben Affleck Friday morning, farther down Delaware Street Paulsboro police had to abandon their jobs of protecting the stars of Jersey Girl to uncover the plot of a mystery unfolding at the post office.

A customer had spotted an abandoned plastic bag in the lobby and had become concerned.

Once outside, the sleuthing customer called police officers over from the set of Kevin Smith’s movie, some of which is being filmed at the Paulsboro Borough Hall.

The post office was cleared for 30 minutes while officers brought in a bomb-sniffing dog.

A harmless VCR was discovered in the bag.

And no, Affleck’s “Armageddon” or “Pearl Harbor” weren’t in the machine.

Read that one HERE.

AOTC DVD Commentary Cites “Clerks!”

  • In a moment that’s sure to make Kevin and any View Askew fan proud, George Lucas himself cites the famous Clerks debate regarding contractors on the Death Star! Though he gets the characters mixed up, it’s still a historic moment. Here’s the text from the AICN report on the upcoming DVD:
Holy Shit, a View Askew reference! Although Lucas gets the characters wrong (it was Randal and Dante, not Jay and Silent Bob, but props nonetheless) he mentions the classic debate of the contract workers who are killed when the under-construction Death Star is blown to bits. Apparently, some of those workers were Geonosians. So they DID deserve to die after all. Randal will sleep better now.

The truth finally revealed! Read it all HERE!

  • Tomorrow night at 9 PM, VH-1 is airing “Remembering the Concert For NYC” from last year where Kevin did his “Why I Love New %*&!# York” short film. The show claims to have behind the scenes footage about the concert and everything that went on that night, so perhaps we’ll see some new Kevin stuff.
  • We’re hearing than an Australian newspaper called the “Adelaide Advertiser” is claiming that Damon wants to work on a Good Will Hunting II. Worst…idea…ever. If it’s even true.
  • This week’s prize for the Guess the Gross game on Bikkit.com is a Vulgar poster signed by Kevin Smith, Scott Mosier, Bryan Johnson, and Brian O’Halloran. Wow. We want one! Check it out HERE.
  • Jason Lee will be on Late Night (which starts re-airing on Comedy Central this Wednesday) September 13th and The Daily Show with Jon Stewart September 17th. This will all likely be to promote “Stealing Harvard”.

  • We mentioned a strange magazine called “Bizarre” that ran a one-page article on Vulgar last month — With the DVD release upon us, we’ve got a scan of that above. Click to give it a read.
  • Speaking of Vulgar, if ya know French, DVDrama has a French review that seems to be quite positive, and recommends buying the Region 1 version as it’s unlikely to get a release in French Theaters.

  • You want more scans? Will give ya more scans! While the last Arena didn’t have Kevin’s new column, it DID have a huge new interview with Matt Damon, with questions from “contributing editor Kevin Smith”!
  • If you’d like to check out that glowing Total Film review of the new UK Chasing Amy DVD, you can find a scan of that very page online HERE.
  • Speaking of Damon, seems he was a little tough to persuade regarding his cameo in Jersey Girl, according to Moviehole :
Matt Damon will have a cameo role in Kevin Smith’s new film.

Jersey Girl stars Ben Affleck and Jennifer Lopez.

Damon says he was a little reluctant to appear in the film to begin with, but director Smith persuaded him to do it.

“He said ‘What you’re too good to work for me now? Won’t appear in your old friends movie?”

  • On last Thursday’s episode of Comedy Central’s Beat the Geeks, the movie geek was asked what three movies John Hughes directed featured Anthony Michael Hall and what was the fictional town. The movie geek responded with the correct answer, but threw a shout out to Jay and Bob for trying to corner the dope market in that fictional town of Shermer, Illinois.
  • Two new DVD reviews are now online for Jay & Bob and the Stan Lee disc are now up at DVD Launch. They’ve got a Vulgar review on the way as well.
