- Our RSVP Trivia Contest is ending in just a few hours. We had a bunch of correct entries, and look forward to drawing a bunch of lucky winners from that lot in the next few days. If you entered, cross your fingers and toes, and hopefully you’ll be hearing from us soon. Best of luck to you in the random draw.
- Australian Askew fans unite: EzyDVD has announced that the Special Edition of Mallrats will be available on November 18th in Australia. The DVD and cover art seem to be match the US version. The price will be $33.95. You gotta have this one.
Stash Bash Invites On The Way!
- Invites to the highly-anticipated Stash Bash started to go out today, to 600 lucky individuals! Dates have yet again moved, this time to the end of October, the 25th and 26th. Very sadly, this latest date change has interfered with previous travel plans of Brad’s, so Chris will be “representing” for News Askew at the event solo. Sorry to not be able to come there in person myself, it’ll be the first Askew event that I missed since this site started, so it’s a real bummer. Everyone have a few drinks for me, and buy Chris some, too. Just not Mewes.
As for the weekend itself, it’s getting even cooler with this announcement from Kevin today on what to expect:
It took a long ass time…but we’re kinda sorted out for the Bash. Big ups to Ming who’s been carrying this event like a grudge.
Ming’s still emailing out the invites, so if you haven’t gotten on yet, keep the faith.
Kimberlieo’s been helpful with the hotel info, so thanks to her.
And at the behest of the guest of honor, Mister Mewes himself…
We’ll be renting out the bowling alley, like we did for the last Vulgarthon. There’ll be a party there Saturday night for all Saturday and Sunday Stash Bashers. No live music there this time (Mewes is gonna be spinning cd’s instead), but that only means one thing: we’re gonna bowl ’til the break of dawn!
As always, anyone who offers Mewes booze or drugs will be thrashed – probably with a bowling pin.
Only the Stash Bashers will be admitted; no Stash Crashers, please. More details to follow.
So for the low, low price of free, you’re getting an hour hang-time at the Stash for chat, autographs, and whatnot, and some late-night bowling and chill time with a very sober (and very horny) Mewes.
Don’t say VA never did nothing for ya’!

Looks like the hotel to be at will be the HOLIDAY INN Tinton Falls, as it was for the last ‘Thon. The group rate is $99, call after 4 PM and say you’re with the STASH BASH. 100 rooms are available for each night. It’s gonna be some party! Call 1-800-2JERSEY or 732-544-9300 and ask for reservations. Congrats to all the invitees!
Pics, Pics, & More Pics!
- Here’s a few new pics of Kevin out on on the town — First off, a wonderful shot of Kevin with Leno during his appearance last Friday night. The guy’s just such a natural up there with Jay, and these Roadside Attractions segemnts never cease to amuse. A very cool shot.
And then, surf over to Wireimage for some great snaps of Kevin and Jennifer arriving at the 29th Annual Dinner Of Champions Honoring Bob and Harvey Weinstein. As always, you’ll need a subscription to their service to view the full blown photos, but you get the idea there.

- More Duncan Fegredo coolness over at the eBay UK division! Modestly famous Jay & Bob figures that Duncan used to pose for photos, signed by him and a bonus sketch. A great package. Good luck.
- Here’s something a celeb always likes to hear — Kevin’s liked by waitresses (at least, this one) from an amusing site called Bitter Waitress, where servers from around the country report on their like or dislike of tipping habits of the famous folks they encounter:
Location: Los Angeles
Celebrity: Kevin Smith
Coolest Mothereffer. Always always leaves 50% no matter what!!! Awesome, down to earth, sick tipper. He is humble and respectful. Best tipper in Hollywood by far! and by far the coolest…. He is no joke. And..he is CONSISTENT. Anyone can vouch for this. He is a regular at my spot!!!!

- Want a preview of Kev’s upcoming commercial appearance for the Panasonic DVD recorder? Here you go. Write your own caption.
- Joey Lauren Adams’ latest, “A Promise Kept”, will be in the Austin Film Festival with screenings on Saturdaym October 11 at 7 PM and Thursday, October 16 at 7:15 PM. Joey plays a rookie Austin police detective who is the only one that wants to find a Vigilante who is knocking off bad guys.
- HMV (in the UK) is selling Dogma on DVD for £4.99 (just the movie only version, no extras) and the 2-disc Jay & Bob Strike Back SE for £8.99. Both good values if you haven’t picked these up yet.
- Mallrats art director Shawn Van Briesen is selling the last item from the film that he’s got — A clock used on the “Time For Cookies” store. The bidding starts low but we’ve got no idea what the reserve is, so have some fun throwing a few numbers in there. You can also visit Sean’s site to see some photos he took on the set.
- We know you’re waiting for an encoded version of Friday’s Roadside Attractions — Sadly we’re still having some issues getting stuff encoded here, but we’re sure Ming will have it up ASAP. The segment ended up being split into two parts, and the stuff at the Stash will not be seen until Part 2 airs. We’ll catch ya next time. Enjoy the rest of your weekend!

- Kevin gets name-checked (though admits he hasn’t worn his hoodie in over a year) in this satire cartoon on the Ben/Jen breakup over at The Onion.
- A recent addition to the Askewniverse had some great thing to say about Kevin at a recent Q&A. Here’d details:
Askewniverse alum Marshal Willenholly, better known to the rest of the world as comedian Will Ferrell, spoke on Saturday night as part of The New Yorker Festival, an annual event at the Float nightclub in New York City at which Kevin himself appeared last year. He spoke for over an hour about his film and television career. While the majority of the talk centered around the success of Old School, his Bush impersonation, and upcoming projects, such as Elf and Anchorman, I did not want to let the night end without some mention of Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back. Fortunately, I had the opportunity to ask the last question of the evening, which was relatively lightweight, I admit. I asked him if, given the chance, would he like to work with Kevin Smith again. He replied enthusiastically, appreciating Kevin’s willingness to let him improvise a good deal, which is of course something Kevin doesn’t allow very often. Oddly, even though his work on that film hadn’t been mentioned up until I asked the question, it seemed there was a good deal of appreciation from the audience when he finally spoke about it. I’ve attached a few pictures. The hat did stay on the entire evening.
Jersey Girl Showest Promo Making Rounds…
- Alright, so here’s the story behind the Jersey Girl Showest “trailer” that’s making the rounds on the net by force these days — Many months ago, a trailer was put together to air at Showest, which was aimed towards international distributions of the film. This was never meant as an official trailer for the film, yet it does feature a great deal of footage, including some wonderful scenes. It’s not at all what Miramax or View Askew want to call an official trailer for the film, though, and as an official source, we’ve been asked not to carry the trailer or link to it here for that purpose (hence the delay in posting this to you, as we tried to work this out). Truth be told, we tried to get a copy of this up for you many months ago, but the official position has always been to wait for the final trailer.
As with most things that leak out on the net, those of you who are resourceful enough should be able to track it down, though the powers that be can’t allow us to give out clues, links, or host a copy of this unofficial trailer here. Hopefully most of you will be able to track it down. Our advice, find it fast, while it’s still easy to come by. And of course, we’d love to hear your comments in the talkbacks if you get the chance to watch it. Happy hunting!
Kevin On Stash Bash Date & More!
- Here’s the latest group of goodies from Kevin courtesy another recent Q&A session from the board:
- The Stash Bash has officially moved to October 12th, due to the Red Bank Film Festival already crowding up the town for the prior weekend.
- Talk/Miramax Books is collecting all the Arena columns and other article-type stuff that Kevin has written over the years into a book, coming out next fall. Kevin also hopes to write some new Arena columns in the future, as time permits.
- Kevin’s in the middle of the second draft of the Fletch Won script.
- Jay Mewes should be attending the Texas Wizard Comicon along with Kevin, Bryan, and possibly Walt. Kevin will be doing a live Q&A at the show.
- No new progress has been made regarding the Clerks animated movie.
- Kevin’s Playboy shoot is next week, likely someone we’ve heard of, but not someone who has posted nude before.
That’s all we got, for now!
