  • Today’s edition of Yahoo! Movies has a slide show featuring pics from last week’s MTV Movie Awards. They give a hilarious in-joke nod to “Mallrats” in their
caption under “The Rock”. See it HERE.
  • Rate That Commentary is a DVD-related website where you, what else, rate DVD commentary tracks for entertainment
value. At presstime, 3 View Askew films (Dogma, Mallrats, and Chasing Amy) are already all in there. Why not cast votes for your faves as well?
  • More UK: The Empire Online review of Jersey Girl is now online HERE.
  • Pennsylvania resident Andrew Zehner, the writer-director of the new film “Spielburgh”, mentions Kevin as an influence in this
    South Bend Tribune article:
He explained the movie is Kevin Smith-esque. Smith has directed movies including “Mallrats” and “Clerks,” which “Speilburgh” takes after.

The film centers around a wannabe filmmaker who just happens to be named “Steven Spielburgh” and works in a theater. There’s more info on the premiere
at the above link and also over at the ‘Shoot. We’ve got a copy here at the News Askew offices to watch as well, which should happen sometime this week.
We’ll let ya know what we think!

  • Region 2 View Askew fans rejoice! The “Evening With Kevin Smith” will finally be released on dvd June 21, 2004.
  • The BBC ran this rather interesting interview with Kevin about JERSEY GIRL.
  • And in our final over-seas story for the day, CLERKS will be shown on Dutch television Sunday night at 10 pm.
  • MTV News ran this story today about Kevin’s next film project:
“Kevin Smith (”Clerks”) is hard at work writing “The Green Hornet,” but he’s not sure the comic flick will be his next project. “I actually want to make something a little smaller, a $250,000 movie,” said the director, who will write that script next. “I’m not telling anyone [the story line] yet. I like things that are more subtle. Probably a return-to-my-roots-type thing.” Smith added he was shocked to hear that “Jersey Girl” co-star Jennifer Lopez had married over the weekend. “It’s kind of shocking. I mean, who knew she would want to get married again so soon,” he said. “But whatever. She’s happy, I’m happy. I won’t bet on her. I understand there are odds [on how long the marriage will last].”

  • As we mentioned yesterday, UK magazine Hot Dog did a bunch of cool pieces this month to celebrate the UK release of
Jersey Girl. First off, a huge 7 piece article on CLERKS, one of the most extensive we’ve ever seen:

And next, their stellar 4-star review of Jersey Girl:

Finally, an interview with the lovely and charming Liv Tyler:

Thanks to Martin for helping us out with the scans!

  • Custom-made DVD covers are all the rage these days. Folks have taken their favorite films and done amazing jobs on some
custom covers, in high resolution, often giving even cooler results than the studio covers. One fan, Carb_One, has made his own classy
set called “The Kevin Smith Collection” which he’s gracioously offered up for free download HERE. If you
wanna put all your titles on the shelf together, this is a nifty way to do it.

Will Miramax & Disney Split?

June 9th @ 10:53 pm | No Comments » | Scooped by Brad & Chris, Ty Nelson

  • Here’s more on the interesting, developing story regarding Miramax and Disney’s future relationship, or lack thereof. We’re not sure
what this means for the future of View Askew, but imagine that Kevin would likely continue to work with Bob and Harvey regardless of their parent company.
However, it’s interesting to see that “Green Hornet” and its respective budget are cited as one of the reasons that Disney’s thinking of renegotiating
things. Here’s the story off the wire :

Kevin goes on to say that it’s “ridiculous”, since Harvey and Bob are the guys that built the company.

So, there ya have it.

Kevin @ “Farenheit 911” Prem…

  • Michael Moore’s controversial new film ‘Fahrenheit 9/11′ premiered at the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Science in Beverly Hills, California last night, and Kevin was on hand to check out the film. We’ve got photos up above (the first expands into a very high-resolution shot directly from AP, the rest are courtesy WireImage and thus you’ll need a subscription to see them in their full-screen glory). Looks like a very star-studded crew was on hand for this one.

At the premiere, Kevin was interviewed and then quoted in this MTV News story:

“I like his stuff, and a chance to see it early and see it for free? Count me in,” said director Kevin Smith (”Mallrats,” “Clerks”), one of the few who talked to reporters, adding that the film is being released at a bad time for Bush. “It seems like so many people are waiting to see an administration change that you don’t even need this film to push it over the edge.”

Good for you, Kev – Don’t shun the press like so many of those other fearful folks!

UK “Evening With” Photos!

  • Thanks to our old pal who provided us (and you, fine readers) with all those Arena columns, here’s 3 nice shots of the increasingly
thinning, Atkins-friendly Kevin doing his thang behind the podium at his recent UK Q&A appearance. Kevin’s back stateside now, but it sounds like he got
to meet a lot of you and did some good press for the film over there. We’re sure you’d all welcome him back anytime.

Clerks 10th Anniversary DVD News…

June 8th @ 10:34 pm | No Comments » | Scooped by John Couture, Douglas Fir

  • Confirmation came in today for the September 7th release of Clerks: 10th Anniversary Edition. Three discs, suggested retail $34.99. With this announcement,
we’ll hopefully have more soon. We can say this much: Kevin revealed that two of the more anticipated items, the Clerks live action pilot, and the “Lovely
Tea Party” documentary will NOT be a part of this set. Tea Party will see the light of day eventually, perhaps on its own disc or as a bonus on a future
release. The TV pilot might be stuck up in some sort of legal bind. That’s all we gots right now, but we’ll let you know more about this set as we hear
it, and hopefully have a nice early review for you this summer once the test discs roll out.
