Kevin Filming “Degrassi”!

November 11th @ 9:07 pm | No Comments » | Scooped by Brad & Chris

  • Kevin was kind enough to drop us a line LIVE from the set of Degrassi to express his excitement and clue us in a bit as to what he’s been up to there in
the Great White North. Take it away, Kevin:

So we’re in the midst of shooting episodes 421 and 422 (”All Cried Out” – or “All Cried Oot” really) and yesterday, Mewes and I wrapped ourselves in our
Jay and Bob duds once again, though, with flourishes this time. If you’ve ever wondered what it’d be like if Jay and Silent Bob went to a Canadian Prom,
well – this is the show for you!

I’m in fucking Heaven, people – and not just because I’m all up in these eps; mainly because this storyline is any longtime “Degrassi” fans wet dream:
amidst all the teen angst and sturm und drang of the current Degrassi kids, we also get to see new developments in the ongoing Caitlin Ryan/Joey Jeremiah
saga.

Not to mention the new ongoing Caitlin Ryan/Kevin Smith saga…

Y’know – the saga in which I can’t seem to close my mouth.

Anyhoo, it’s awesome. Can’t wait for ya’ll to see it.

Wonder if he’ll be saying “aboot” by the time he gets home, ‘eh? And don’t forget, Kevin does the SOLD OUT Roy Thompson gig for the new EVENING 2 DVD
just ONE WEEK from tonight. Hope you got tickets!!!

  • Rolling stone ran a Best and Worst Bonus Features article for this years DVD’s. Clerks: The Lost scene hits the “Best” column with this writeup:
BEST Clerks: The Animated Funeral

For the tenth-anniversary edition of Clerks, Kevin Smith took a funeral scene he couldn’t afford to shoot in 1993 and had it animated. The nine-minute result, in which the heroes retrieve their car keys from the panties of a attractive corpse, is laugh-till-you-cry-funny.

  • Sprint Wireless has a lot of downloadable ringtones from “The Incredibles”, with different characters telling you to answer your phone. The best one is Jason Lee, as Syndrome, saying something to the effect of: “It’s fer youuu, and I’m not going to keep doing this for you, Syndrome is nobody’s sidekick!” Sounds like a possible Mallrats reference to us! And it’s gotta be funny to hear Lee telling you to answer your phone.
  • Kevin made a surprise appearance today on 102.1 The Edge radio in Toronto this morning. If anyone has the appearance recorded or a summary, let us know. We’re sure he was in there to talk Degrassi, but who knows what else he dropped?
  • A spelling-corrected version of that Hosties cereal box is now available. We tossed a copy over in Files Askew (in PDF format) for your downloading ease. Use that one if you plan to tackle the task, and see the link in yesterday’s post on folding instructions.
  • The great composer Jim Venable will perform at The Apple Store in Los Angeles’ Grove on Thursday, November 18th. We know he’d love to meet any View Askew fans who dig his work from the films.
In Store performance at The Apple Store where James L. Venable will discuss his job as a composer and Apple Computers role in his work. He will discuss how he uses Apple hardware and Logic software as an artist and will give a multi-media music presentation (utilizing two Apple Titanium laptops) with audio and video.

Visit Jim’s site for details, merchandise, and info!

  • The character of Randal is cited in this article from “Independent Film & Video Monthly” which discusses independent video stores fighting the competition of the larger chain operations.

  • Here’s a couple more shots taken by a fan of Jay at Wizard World last week.
