  • Here’s a short blurb from Canada.com and Macleans on Degrassi that made the rounds today:
Jay and Silent Bob do Degrassi

TORONTO (CP) — “I got to make out with Caitlin Ryan. . .for hours!”

So boasted indie filmmaker Kevin Smith about his featured guest role on CTV’s Degrassi: The Next Generation.

Well, not quite hours but he does have one smooching scene with the dishy Stacie Mistysyn who plays Caitlin, but only because Caitlin was drunk and afterwards she. . .well, let’s not spoil it for both Smith and Degrassi fans. The first of three episodes airs Monday night.

Smith has made no secret of his longstanding adulation for the Degrassi franchise and in particular of a crush on Mistysyn, and so agreed last year to come to Canada, with Jason Mewes — his “hetero life-mate” and co-star in the popular Jay and Silent Bob movies — to basically play himself (albeit an unmarried version of Smith). Before the kiss, Caitlin, who is in a relationship with Joey (Pat Mastroianni), admits she thought Smith was gay.

In the story arc, they’re shooting a new film called Jay and Silent Bob Go Canadian, Eh? on location at Degrassi High, using students as extras, and Smith becomes involved in Caitlin’s personal relationship problems.

Smith was limited to acting. He offered to write and direct the episodes but he’s not Canadian and that would have put the series’ Telefilm funding at risk. Watch for another riotous cameo, though, by Alanis Morissette whose character makes out with Jay. Degrassi is the top-rated shows on Noggin, a U.S. cable channel aimed at the teen crowd.

  • Shots of all the soon available View Askew bobbleheads are also now online, from UK Toyfair, at the
    Action Figure website. We’ll
let you know when we’ve got them all in stock, of course. Jay, Silent Bob, and the Buddy Christ all should ship next month at $12.99 each. Ya gotta
    love ‘em!

  • And just a few more tidbits to start your day. First off, we’re happy to announce that the original Brodie inaction figure is on sale
at the Stash for a limited time offer! You can now have your very own Brodie (or a second one to play with, for you freaks who are keeping them all in
their packages) for a mere FIVE BUCKS! Get one HERE while they last.

  • And speaking of that, big ass Jay & Bob are now on sale and showing at UK Toyfair this weekend. Visit
    Action-Figure.com
for some inaction shots. The photo shown
here just shows you how HUGE these things are! They’re also now avaiable from the Stash, by themselves or in a big-ass set.
  • In case you’ve been missing it, CTV has been posting updates, clips, and other info on Kevin’s Degrassi episodes at their
Degrassi site . Check it out from time to time and see the latest info on
episodes, cast bios, and more. Still no solid U.S. airdates for Kevin’s 3-ep run yet, we’ll let you know as soon as we know.
  • IGN.com just posted their latest batch of reviews, and Richard Kelly’s “Donnie Darko: Director’s Cut” scored a solid 8 out of 10. When
looking at the extras, the reviewer didn’t hesitate to jump at the opportunity to wrtie about Kevin’s bit on the DVD in the review:
One of the most lauded features in the new set is the new commentary track with Richard Kelly and Kevin Smith (who isn’t related to the movie). Kevin Smith
is surprisingly low-key in this commentary, letting Kelly really talk about his movie. When Smith does talk, it’s usually because he’s talking about his
reaction to the movie. He does make the occasional commentary joke that he’s known for, but most of them are pretty calm. It’s amazing to see his
self-deprecating commentaries on his own movies and his very honest and caring commentary on someone else’s.
  • Watch Jason Lee in “Stealing Harvard”, uncut and commercial free, on the Encore movie channel tonight (Thursday) at 10:20 PM. Back soon –
    ’til then, be good, folks.
